Welcome MethodicMockingbird[edit]

Hello! Welcome to UESPWiki. It's always good to have new members. If you would like to help improve any of our pages, you may want to take a look at the following links:

If you, on the other hand, would like to spice up your userpage, take a look at this link:

  • Userboxes: near complete list of userboxes, including a guide to make your own

When you're editing, it's always a good idea to leave edit summaries to explain the changes you have made to a particular page, and remember to sign your talk page posts with four tildes ~~~~. Also, the "show preview" button is a great way to view the changes you've made so far without actually saving the page (our patrollers really appreciate it!).

Feel free to practice editing in the sandbox or discuss the games in the forums. If you need any help, don't hesitate to contact one of our mentors. Have fun! --LosTheFail 04:53, 21 December 2011 (UTC)

Lore:House Redoran[edit]

Your contribution to the Lore:House Redoran article isn't suitable for lorespace. We don't want game references in the main text, even though the current article still hasn't been cleaned up. The fact that a cave in Whiterun Hold is named after the Redoran might be worth mentioning as a note, but giving game-specific details about zones and enemies isn't useful in the slightest. I don't know what point you were trying to make when re-adding the information after my removal - what does that book have to do with the location, other than being found there? --Legoless 19:18, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

My apologies. I suppose it would make more sense to move the info to a note under Redoran's Retreat, rather than as a tidbit below an unrelated Lore page. I was unsure as to the overall coherence of other game references made on House Redoran that concerned the previous games, and I misthought and hastily edited in as it seemed appropriate. The book link was to provide evidence that the reference to the Redoran name was an intentional one upon the part of the developers. Once again, I apologize for the innconvenience and re-add! MethodicMockingbird 20:07, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
No problem, lorespace is a bit of a mess. I've undone the edit. --Legoless 20:15, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Mudcrab and links to redirects[edit]

Just a quick explanations why I reverted your edit and a comment about redirects. The creature is called "Mudcrab" when fighting it or looting it's corpse. So that should be the definite name for the creature, not something coming from a secondary source. About linking to redirects, it can be useful (see [1]) when there is a possibility that the redirect may be turned into an article later on. If pages link to the redirect target, it will be next to impossible to find all those links and change them to the newly created article later on. --Alfwyn 14:12, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

My info was not from a secondary source; it was from within the wiki itself, at the Lore section for the "Mud Crab". As for the redirect, I apologize. I do not understand much of the coding involved with them. I have tinkered with them slightly, but not enough to have edited the preexisting page to allow linkage to both the Animals article and the Creatures article. In any case, I will leave that up to someone more experienced. Thanks for the explanation! MethodicMockingbird 14:23, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

Factions[edit]

Granted, factions are very technically and not that useful right now. But they were generated directly from game data, fiddling around with them won't make it any better. We are currently looking into ways to make them more useful, but it's probably best to leave them alone for now, unless you verified that the factions are not as found in the game data. --Alfwyn 18:22, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Faction categorization[edit]

Please do not replace {{faction}} with a link to the faction page. The template provides more information than a link. Also, it is unnecessary to link past a disambiguation page; that is why they are there. Thanks. elliot (talk) 03:10, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

The template provides relatively no information regarding the specific NPC's faction. Linkage to the various factions is still upheld, and linking past disambiguation pages is entirely necessary. They are mostly there for same-spelling items; if an item can be differentiated when referenced, it should be. MethodicMockingbird 03:14, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Incorrect. The template provides all the necessary categorization for each NPC and is on every single NPC page for every single game. elliot (talk) 03:21, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Did you even look at my edits? All that was done was that I cleared up the links' ambiguity. The template is still intact. My edits led the links to the specific factions at SR:Factions, rather than sending the reader pointlessly to a disambiguation page when the desired destination is known. It's just reformatting.
Doing it like that wont add them to there correct categories. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 03:30, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Please look at my revert. You will notice the fact that you changed a template to a link. Of course you are removing the template. elliot (talk) 03:32, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
True that it may remove it from the category, but what is the point of having it listed in a table if the categories link incorrectly in tables? MethodicMockingbird 03:34, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
The point is giving us time to adjust the template so that it doesn't. elliot (talk) 03:36, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps a rewrite of the faction code in each character, to allow category persistence but direct link? MethodicMockingbird 03:52, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

() Robinhood and myself are working on a solution. Can you avoid editing the pages in the meantime? It's messed up our findings. Thanks. elliot (talk) 04:17, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

I already have a solution, if you don't mind me mentioning it. It could be improved upon as well, probably. MethodicMockingbird 04:19, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Yes, we have already found the template workaround. We are working on the internal aspect of the template to avoid future problems. elliot (talk) 04:20, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Which means? Doesn't this solve the problem, if the templates are written this way in the future?
It's already been fixed. The links should be fine now. elliot (talk) 04:22, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
Great. MethodicMockingbird 04:25, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Redirect[edit]

Thought I should point out that this edit should have changed the link to Lore:Alinor (city), rather than Lore:Summerset Isles - just in case you were planning on doing any more. --Legoless 22:15, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks. I was unsure on that one, due to context and a lack of lore knowledge. MethodicMockingbird 22:17, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
