Clock request[edit]

Can we have a uesp.net/clock akin to like http://mwomercs.com/clock to help people on the UESP ESO guild have a central reference to coordinate guild events? It would likely need Alaska, Pacific, Mountain, Central, Eastern, GMT/UTC, CET, and AST. There are always many discussions over what times things are and I think it'd be nice to have an easy to point to page to send people to. Profound (talk) 03:52, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

An interesting and mostly simple idea I'll think about this week, thanks! -- Daveh (talk) 21:27, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
I have a basic implemenation up and working at http://content3.uesp.net/esoclock/esoclock.php. It includes the in-game Tamriel time as we currently are able to estimate it. I'm assuming AST is for Australia but if it isn't let me know. Other time zone can be easily added as well. Source code is available on BitBucket. -- Daveh (talk) 17:25, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
It seems to pause if not the active tab, lagging behind real time (Chrome/WinX). In addition, it does not show actual CET but CEST (Central European Summer Time = CET +1h). The differences has caused confusion before, when the EU PC Guild had photo session. —MortenOSlash (talk) 18:20, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
Ah yes, I see it does lag a bit. I'll have to change the update method a bit and see if it works. What city in Europe can I use for CET? I used Berlin which apparently is on CEST as you say. -- Daveh (talk) 18:31, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
So I set it to update the time every 1 minute so if it does lag it shouldn't be out by much. I also changed the CET time to London which seems to be the correct time for CET but let me know if it isn't. -- Daveh (talk) 18:42, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
London isn't on the mainland so it actually uses BST. I think it would be best to stick to UTC like on the wiki, if that's possible to set up. —Legoless (talk) 19:04, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
Yah, looking at it further London is in the BST timezone which happens to match CET at the moment but won't when DST ends. I've changed the CET time to simply be UTC +1.0. -- Daveh (talk) 19:18, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
The same thing will apply to anywhere that observes Daylight Savings. For example, the clocks currently marked "Eastern" and "Pacific" are showing EDT and PDT, respectively, not EST and PST as they are labelled, because Eastern and Pacific are currently in Daylight Savings (as with all other US timezones as well). So it either needs something that is going to update itself when Daylight Savings starts and ends, which would require the abbreviation to change as well, or it needs to be something static based on UTC. --Enodoc (talk) 19:34, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
The times shown for EDT/PDT should automatically change when DST ends. I can see how it looks if the timezone suffix is added by the internal date/time formatter. -- Daveh (talk) 19:37, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

Edit break[edit]

Maybe this game time clock could be linked to from the Online front page? It is nearly impossible to find if you do not remember that it has been linked to in this discussion. —MortenOSlash (talk) 21:29, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

By the way, it seems like it has gotten a couple of hours off on the game time. —MortenOSlash (talk) 21:47, 24 March 2016 (UTC)
I'll add a link somewhere (added to the "misc" section at the bottom) but I've also given it a domain name so you can just access it via esoclock.uesp.net. It looks like the ESO server time is about 15 seconds ahead of the global epoch time which is why the game time is a few minutes off. -- Daveh (talk) 13:17, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
I believe there might be some time differences between the US and the EU servers, as the time difference is some eight days off, not a few minutes, or at least according to Clock 0.7.2 by Tyx? —MortenOSlash (talk) 20:54, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
That add-on uses a different starting date/time for their calendar which explains the difference. There is no "official" start lore date for ESO that I know of so anything chosen will be arbitrary. -- Daveh (talk) 13:51, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
I've updated the uespLog add-on (not yet released, v0.63 or higher) and the clock page to match the in-game date/time shown by the Clock add-on. I've also improved the moon phase calculation which has slowly drifted off. -- Daveh (talk) 17:44, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
Ah. They were only a week off from each other, so I thought it might be within a possible driftoff. Thanks for the explanation. —MortenOSlash (talk) 06:31, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

Question about the Map[edit]

Is there any way to change the colors on the map or readd the nighttime view option? The yellow on sunlit white color scheme is insanely hard to read: the nighttime mode was helpful in this case. Any ideas? —— Unsigned comment by Lyuna (talkcontribs) at 03:41 on 17 January 2016

Thanks for the comments! I've tweaked the label background to provide more contrast against white backgrounds which should make it easier to read. I've also adjusted the day/night toggle to actually be visible again (Google changed the default position such that they were hidden behind the search box). If you need anything else or have other suggestions just let us know! -- Daveh (talk) 16:02, 18 January 2016 (UTC)

() Is there anyway to Download the Maps Found On your Website? —— Unsigned comment by 172.79.184.173 (talk) at 11:00 on 20 November 2016 (UTC)

Unfortunately, there is no way to get the maps working offline at this time. -- Daveh (talk) 23:07, 20 November 2016 (UTC)

Just interested[edit]

How did you learn your craft? How did you learn to program, host your own site(s) and such. I'm a 17-year-old guy with some Java, Python, C, C++ and LISP knowledge, but I don't quite know how to apply what I know, which makes knowing what I do about programming useless. How did you learn to implement your skills? Any tips for a newcomer to the programming scene? 184.6.43.58 03:58, 8 February 2016 (UTC)

Just plain learning to program is fine but you really need to find something specific to apply. For me it was first creating basic games and other utility/scientific programs. Once the web came out my hobby of games translated naturally to making a website about games. From there came all the web related programming things over the years. So find something to do that interests you and have fun doing it! You can never know where it will lead you.... -- Daveh (talk) 14:33, 8 February 2016 (UTC)

Dump Mined Items[edit]

Hey Dave, I was wondering if you would be able to update the valid field names for DumpMinedItems to include "tags", which is a new field added in 2.3 primarily for contraband. On a related note, it seems that the unnamed "type 56", which we decided to call Contraband, will be called "Treasure" in-game once the new update drops. Thanks! --Enodoc (talk) 10:47, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Both done. I've also added a version parameter to DumpMinedItems in order to view the raw data from previous item versions or partial PTS dumps.
-- Daveh (talk) 17:05, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

ESOlog Abilities[edit]

Hey Dave, I was wondering if you knew the base parameter values that are used in the skill tree and mined skills entries in the database which result in the specific values of damage and cost that we see (respectively, in the "description" and "cost" fields). The determining parameter for cost is character level, and for damage is a character's max magicka/stamina and weapon/spell damage, but the values that the database is using for these is unclear.

On a related note, the record set of all mined skills is not working.

If we can work out those discrepancies, do you think it would be possible to eventually have an 'Ability Database' that functions like the Item Database, with provisions for table generation, ability viewing and MediaWiki linking?

Thanks! --Enodoc (talk) 12:29, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Fixed the mined skills bug. The skills were mined on the PTS just after the 1.8 update using the template characters. I have to use the PTS as you need to purchase every active ability in order for the skill data to show up. So the base parameter values would be v16 and whatever magicka/stamina the PTS characters had. I'll be doing another skill update after 1.9 and can include these parameters in the dump so we have a record. Besides that we'll also need two hidden parameters for each skill that determines how its parameters change. For example, a damage skill has the basic equation Damage = A * MaxMagicka + B * SpellDamage where the A/B parameters are generally different for each skill. I know someone has calculated these for most, if not all, skills somewhere. It should also be possible to calculate these values by doing multiple skill dump with different Magicka/SpellDamage parameters. Once we have these values then a skill calculator is "easy".
I'll think about how to log or calculate these parameters the next 2 weeks and see if I can get something in time for the 1.9 update. -- Daveh (talk) 13:01, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
Some updates for you. I've been working on the skill coefficients and have a basic version "sort of" working in uespLog. There are still some issues to work out but some parameters can be seen at esoitem.uesp.net/viewSkillCoef.php or on the Mined Skills table. These are values from live and only for Templar/Nightblade and I wouldn't trust most of those values yet (anything with an R value of 0.99 or higher is probably fine). I'll work out the rest of the problems and do a complete dump of parameters from PTS after the Thieves Guild launches. Once the parameters are mined I can start working on a dynamic skill page of some sort where you input the stats and it outputs the hopefully correct tooltip for it.
I've also been working on the quest items I believe you asked about a while ago. There doesn't seem to be way to get the quest item data from the game like the regular items so I'm forced to log the data from quests as you complete them. You can view the few quest items I've encountered so far here. Once this table is fleshed out a bit I can add a quest item link popup like the item link one.
The version of uespLog with both these features will be released next Monday before the Thieves Guild DLC. -- Daveh (talk) 17:38, 1 March 2016 (UTC)
That's great, thanks! What is the R value? I've also made a bit of progress on the Collection items (one of the other things I mentioned in this section). It seems the link format for those has changed as well, as it did for the quest items. Try |H1:collectible:50|h, which should be the Mannimarco costume; I'm not sure if the end of the link has been truncated, but hopefully collectible is the necessary factor there and you may be able to work onwards from that. Thanks again! --Enodoc (talk) 00:09, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
R is just R-squared which is a statistic term for how good the fit is. A perfect fit is 1.000 and worse fits go towards 0. I'm not entirely sure I'm calculating everything correctly as some coefficients with R values of 0.98 seem really off compared to Asayre's values so I have to double-check things. I'll look into the collectible items as well. -- Daveh (talk) 00:21, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
I've fixed the various issues with the skill coefficients and they seem to be working very well now. I can calculate the coefficients for almost all skills with an R-square value of 0.999 or better (most of them a lot better). I've already dumped the coefficients for all skills from the PTS viewable here. They are a good match comparing with Asayre's values (some are not exact but close, some of his values have better fits).
There are a few skills I've found that behave strangely (or at least are non-obvious from the skill descriptions):
  • NightBlade Grim Focus/Merciless Resolve/Relentless Focus -- Game mechanic says Magicka but main damage seems to work like an ultimate.
  • NightBlade Soul Shred/Soul Tether/Soul Siphon -- The health stealing portion seems to always use Spell Damage (works like an ultimate in that it takes the max of Magicka/Stamina but ignores Weapon Damage).
  • 1H+Shield Absorb Magic -- Is a stamina ability but scales off of health.
  • Mages Guild Equilibrium/Spell Symmetry/Balance -- Are magicka abilities but scale off of health.
  • Undaunted Inner Fire/Inner Rage/Inner Beast -- Numbers 4/6 seem to work like ultimates.
  • Undaunted Necrotic Orn/Mystic Orb/Energy Orb -- Number 2 acts like an ultimate.
  • Undaunted Trapping Webs/Tangling Webs/Shadow Silk -- Number 4 acts like an ultimate.
  • 1H & Shield Shielded Assault -- Number 3 is based on health.
  • Fighters Guild Silver Shards -- Its a stamina ability but number 5 scales on health.
  • Fighters Guild Silver Leash/Silver Bolts -- Its a stamina ability but number 4 scales on health.
  • Templar Repentance -- Acts like an ultimate.
  • Templar Cleansing Ritual/Purifying Ritual/Extended Ritual -- Acts like an ultimate.
  • Sorcerer Lightning Splash/Liquid Lightning/Lightning Flood -- Acts like an ultimate.
  • Dragonknight Obsidian Shield/Igneous Shield/Fragmented Shield -- Based on health.
  • Dragonknight Flames of Oblivion -- Acts like an ultimate.
  • Dragonknight Standard/Standard of Might/Shifting Standard -- 5th number is based on health.
  • Dragonknight Choking Talons/Dark Talons/Burning Talons -- Acts like an ultimate.
  • Werewolf Werewolf Transformation/Werewolf Berserker/Pack Leader -- Is an ultimate but damage is based on stamina.
  • Alliance Support Replenishing Barrier -- Although it's an ultimate the 3rd number seems to be only based off of magic.
  • Dual Wield Twin Blade and Blunt -- 2nd number is based on stamina.
  • Soul Magic Soul Shatter -- Based on health.
  • Destruction Tri Focus -- Based on health.
  • Two Handed Heavy Weapons -- Based on stamina.
  • Sorcerer Disintegrate -- Acts like an ultimate.
  • Templar Burning Light -- Acts like an ultimate.

http://esoitem.uesp.net/viewSkillCoef.php

Ah yeah, I thought it might be R-squared. R-squared is quite dependent on the number of observations considered, but since we're dealing with something that is hopefully pretty linear we should be alright. Some of those strange scalings make some sense (Absorb Magic and Equilibrium for example are Health-restorers, so scaling off Health is reasonable), but non-ultimates scaling off Ultimate is very odd. Perhaps those particular instances where it's scaling off something illogical are bugged?
Now that we've got something to work from, do you think that a skill calculator with linking capability would be a possibility? I found something like what I was thinking of at ESOhead (here's Solar Flare), but their sliders are value-limited to unrealistic numbers and don't include all the necessary parameters (for example, Equilibrium scales off health but they don't have a Max Health slider).
Speaking of linking, now that we know the link style for quest_item and collectible, would it be possible to add an extension like WikiEsoItemLink that would produce pop-ups for those items?
Thanks! --Enodoc (talk) 14:21, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
Note that when I say "Acts like an ultimate" I mean that the skill uses the maximum of magicka/stamina and weapon/spell damage, just in case that wasn't clear. Getting a skill tooltip is definitely possible now and I'll starting looking into it. Similarly with the quest and collectible items. Quest items are still going to be limited by what we've come across in-game (still haven't found a way to mine them, but we're up to 1000 items already). I still have to implement mining collectibles but that shouldn't take long (in theory anyways). -- Daveh (talk) 12:44, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

() The first working version of the ESO Skills Browser is up. I've created a topic on the CP for feedback you can use. I haven't forgotten about the skill tooltip feature. I wanted to get the bugs worked out of the browser first and once that is done getting a skill tooltip working shouldn't take long. -- Daveh (talk) 19:05, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

That looks great, thanks for doing that! I'll head over to CP with my feedback. --Enodoc (talk) 22:15, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

() Update -- I finally got around to logging collectible items as well as modifying the ESO item link with support for both quest items and collectible items. For example:

     <esoitemlink questid="2944">[A Gift of Sanctuary]</esoitemlink>
     <esoitemlink collectid="1">[Palomino Horse]</esoitemlink>

Note that for quest items it is the game's quest item ID and not our own questID. Also it is unlikely that all quest items have been logged yet so if we're missing any let me know. Its just a matter of actually running through the quest with the most recent uespLog in order to capture the quest item details. -- Daveh (talk) 20:42, 5 May 2016 (UTC)

That's great, thanks! I'll wrap those into {{Item Link}} and let people know that they are now available. Would it be at all possible to add the name of the quest into the quest item popups as well? I know it doesn't appear like that in-game, but it might be useful for our purposes; perhaps in the smaller, bottom-left-aligned typeface that you see on some items for showing a secondary "description", like Weapon Traits. You could even put it in grey like "www.uesp.net" so that it's there, but not intrusive.
Once again, thanks for getting all this done! These should all be very useful down the line. --Enodoc (talk) 21:57, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
Done! Easy enough since the quest name was already present in the quest item data. -- Daveh (talk) 22:05, 5 May 2016 (UTC)

Oldblivion File[edit]

Don't know if you remember, but last June there was an issue with Google flagging the site for hosting malware because of the Oldblivion mod. There's still interest in the mod and no public mirrors have been made available since, so I was wondering if you ever got around to looking into a hosting solution. The software's pretty specialist so no urgency, but it would be a good thing to archive all the same. —Legoless (talk) 19:03, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

I vaguely remember it but will review the issue again and see if I can figure out a good way to host it. -- Daveh (talk) 18:40, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Forum issues[edit]

Is the forum broken, chief? I keep trying to access it, and I'm greeted with this screen. -damon  talkcontribs 17:08, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

Oops! Thanks for the heads up. I just pushed an update to some database passwords and forgot that sometimes Apache/PHP requires a restart after that happens. Should be all good now. -- Daveh (talk) 17:16, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

UESPlog and identically-named quests[edit]

I was filling in some of the message board text on the Alliance War quest pages: Scout Objective, Capture Keep, and Capture Resource, all based on the information in the Log Data Viewer. I noticed a pattern, which I think is a possible problem with the UESPlog add-on. Note that on each of these pages, there is only at most one alliance per keep or resource. Note also the preponderance on all of these pages of AD and DC quests, and the comparatively much smaller number of EP ones. My guess is because you're seeing the AD version of "Capture Fort Alessia" as being the same quest as the DC and EP versions of the same name, and thus whichever alliance the person who did the quest last and logged the data most recently was in is what we see in the database, because they're overwriting the old data. Not sure how you could test for that, but a simple comparison of the locations the player was at when they received the quest should make it pretty obvious which version it is. Anyhow, just thought I'd bring it to your attention, so you can look into how to work around it. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 15:19, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

Yes, esolog "identifies" quests by their name so it looks like there would be some issues in quests like these. I'll see if I can figure out a way to get it working better with identical quest names and let you know. -- Daveh (talk) 23:00, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

Burning Light Skill Coefficient[edit]

Hey, I noticed that the R2 value for Burning Light in the ESO skill browser is low. I believe this is because the tooltip only takes your Stamina and Weapon Damage into account. But ingame damage calculation will take your Magicka and Spell Damage if it is higher. My estimates for the coefficients are 0.04077*Magicka + 0.4297*Spell Damage + 2.708. I'm sure you can quickly verify this by fitting to Stamina and Weapon Damage. Asayre (talk) 01:27, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the note! It seems to be classified as an "ultimate" so in theory it should use the higher stat in the calculations but obviously something is wrong with the calculated coefficients so I'll see what is up and fix it. -- Daveh (talk) 23:02, 20 June 2016 (UTC)
Something's definitely strange with Burning Light at least on PTS...it seems to be only scaling from Stamina/Weapon Damage and never from Magicka/Spell Damage, even when the latter stats are both higher. Raw data for Burning Light II from PTS is below:
Magic Stamina SD WD Damage
 7958 7958 0 0 437

Will do some tests on live to see what's up. -- Daveh (talk) 23:26, 20 June 2016 (UTC)
Looks like the Burning Light tooltip is broken on Live/PTS in that it only uses Stamina/Weapon Damage. It actually does the correct damage for Magicka builds...for example on Live my tooltip says it hits for 1692 but it actually hits for 4431. Redoing the skill coefficient calculation on PTS and I get different numbers for Stamina/Weapon damage:
        Burning Light 1 = 0.0277349 * Stamina + 0.2883832 * WD - 2.9012653 R2=0.9999974, Ratio=10.40
        Burning Light 2 = 0.0552468 * Stamina + 0.5769907 * WD - 2.7904922 R2=0.9999994, Ratio=10.44
This gets me reasonably close to the actual value on live: 3372 Base Damage * 1.25 = 4215 (4431 actual although I may have messed up the target resistance calculation for this). I've updated the skill coefficients to these values for now so at least they are more reasonable than what they were. -- Daveh (talk) 23:50, 20 June 2016 (UTC)
I was wondering why my coefficients were so much different than yours....it looks like yours are very close to an average of ranks 1 & 2. -- Daveh (talk) 23:53, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for looking into it and I apologise if I'm not following convention on replying. I'm not sure what the recommended method is. There still appears to be something strange going on with Burning Light. You're right that it's classed as an 'Ultimate' so it takes whichever is higher of Stamina/Weapon Damage or Magicka/Spell Damage. And the tooltip only shows for Stamina/Weapon Damage even though your Magicka/Spell Damage is higher. What were you testing your damage on? I've a suspicion that it is checking against physical resistance instead of spell resistance even though it is doing magic damage which is why my initial calculations were wrong. Asayre (talk) 01:23, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

On second thought, it seems that its Spell Penetration that is not working at least Spell Erosion. I tested on the Giants in the Rift. I use Puncturing Sweeps and noted the damage of my Puncturing Sweeps and Burning Light with and without Major Breach (Elemental Drain). In both cases, my Puncturing Sweeps does the same amount of damage but Burning Light does more damage with Major Breach active. Asayre (talk) 01:23, 21 June 2016 (UTC)
I think your coefficients are correct! All I had to realise was that Spell Penetration wasn't working with it. Thank you Asayre (talk) 01:23, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

EsoExtractData: MSVCP140.dll is missing[edit]

Hey Dave, I'm trying to run the most recent version of EED (0.28) on the current Live and PTS data, and am getting the error "The program can't start because MSVCP140.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." The last time I ran EED, which was after Imperial City and therefore probably v0.25 or 0.26, I didn't have this error. Do you have any idea what I need to do to fix the problem? Thanks! --Enodoc (talk) 18:02, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

Assuming it is MSVCP140.DLL you just need to download the Visual C++ Redistributable Library from MS at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145. Choose the vc_redist.x86.exe file as EsoExtractData is a 32bit application. This is a one time thing due to a change in how the program was compiled. If it is in fact MSVCP140D.dll that you need it means I messed up and released a Debug version at some point (let me know if this is the case). -- Daveh (talk) 18:39, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
Yep, that did it, thanks! It wasn't the Debug version, that was just a typo (which I've corrected). Thanks again! --Enodoc (talk) 22:16, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

I see on the Tumblr member list he is there now so it should be all set. -- Daveh (talk) 14:56, 5 July 2016 (UTC)

Happy birthday[edit]

Saw your birthday posted with the birthdays on the bottom of the main forum page, so I figured I'd leave the gaffer a birthday message. Have a good one, Dave! -damon  talkcontribs 23:50, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

Ha! Thanks! -- Daveh (talk) 00:02, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

Facebook[edit]

The current Facebook page manager has requested I have access for backup, what do I need to give you for this to happen? --AKB Talk Cont Mail 00:00, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

I dug up an old email conversation about this, and replied to that email with the requirements for Facebook you said there were at the time. Not sure if that's still true, but if it is, I gave you the necessary info, I believe. If you need anything else, please let me know. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 02:38, 17 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks...just got back from vacation and added you to the Facebook page. Let me know if that works for the backup as well. -- Daveh (talk) 19:40, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

ESL[edit]

Hey, while I'm not sure what we could exactly get digging through the game files (as that's not in my skill set), but I do see how it may help us to try to dig through ESL. I started a CP discussion on ESL, mainly in regards to seeing about getting certain files extracted, or determining if that is even feasible. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 14:25, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Question for permission of content usage[edit]

I am entitled by administration of http://pl.elderscrolls.wikia.com/ polish The Elder Scrolls Wiki to ask about permission to use content from your site, which was extracted out of now inactive Bethesda Softworks site, and also a deleted content out of Elder Scrolls Online site. We would be happy to have that lore materials at our site, it would provide sources useful for our wiki to grow in size and help us spread knowledge about Elder Scrolls world. Since you were only one site precautionary enough to save those content, we are asking for allowance for use of content on theese pages:

We would be glad if you will agree to give us permition. Nonetheless, we will understand the decline. - ITakNieZnasz (talk) 17:49, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi ITakNieZnasz. Like you said, all of that content was directly copied from official websites, so you can freely use it without attributing UESP as long as you acknowledge the original source. If there's any original UESP content you'd like to use in future, you can do so by following these requirements. Thanks! —Legoless (talk) 18:00, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
Yes, but it's always fair to ask the only one site, which was so thoughtful to write the content down before it disappeared. Thanks for such fast response! - ITakNieZnasz (talk) 18:24, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Skyrim PS4 and Xbox One[edit]

I believe this would be the first time a game would be released on a newer version of a console while you've had your offer to buy copies of games for editors. In which case was wondering if your offer would still stand? Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 22:37, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Yup, most definitely. If any regular editor/admin would like the game for the new platform just let me know (via dave@uesp.net is preferred). -- Daveh (talk) 23:48, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Social Media (Again)[edit]

Hi Dave. The social media revitalization project is actually going pretty swimmingly, but a few of the things that I see need done require a few additional privileges. For the Tumblr, the system is set up so that if you are not an administrator, you cannot alter the page's queue or see its mail, which is rather problematic. If me and Mars could get those privileges, it would really open up our future options for that page. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 04:23, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

No problem...I'll do that today. -- Daveh (talk) 11:57, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
I've seen a surprising number of people show interest in volunteering to help with Tumblr in this discussion. If you want me to, I should be able to invite them to the blog now, but if you want to keep that under your domain... I'm informing you we have volunteers :P --AKB Talk Cont Mail 21:20, 21 August 2016 (UTC)
Nope, feel free to invite whoever you feel would be good there. I can barely keep up with Facebook and have never got much into Tumblr or the other social media sites. -- Daveh (talk) 21:35, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

Moronic Query[edit]

I don't suppose your offer to buy games for active editors extends to crowns or an ESO+ membership, for the DLC? I'm assuming not, but I'm the sort of person who won't spend money until I know that all other routes have been exhausted. - KINMUNETALK﴿ 12:06, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

In some cases it does. Feel free to email me at dave@uesp.net and we can discuss things in more detail. -- Daveh (talk) 13:22, 17 August 2016 (UTC)
I don't mean to step on anyone's toes here, but in the interest of you wanting to save money, KINMUNE, if you don't yet have any of the DLCs, ZOS will soon be bringing out a bundle pack on the Crown Store containing Imperial City, Orsinium, Thieves Guild, and Dark Brotherhood. While they haven't announced a price yet, this will almost certainly be quite a bit cheaper than buying all 4 of those DLCs individually. --Enodoc (talk) 13:43, 17 August 2016 (UTC)

Mismatched armor dyes in data miner[edit]

I was just noticing a few discrepancies in some of the achievements with armor dyes: Truly Legendary displays Mastic YellowMastic Yellow instead of Entoloma BlueEntoloma Blue as expected. I thought this might've been a change in the game, until I looked up Legendary Woodworker, the achievement which should have Mastic Yellow, and it displays Dolmen Deep BlueDolmen Deep Blue instead, which is definitely wrong. I have no idea how many of these are messed up, but you might want to look into that... — TheRealLurlock (talk) 16:45, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks! I think I updated them from the last DLC but I'll double check that they're actually being parsed correctly. -- Daveh (talk) 18:31, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
Should now be fixed! It was a mixup between the dye "index" and "id". I've also added all achievements within an achievement line (previously it was only logging the current achievement within a line). If you notice any other issues with the achievement data just let me know! -- Daveh (talk) 13:20, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

ESO Item Dye Stamps[edit]

The item descriptions for Crown Store dye stamps don't appear to be displaying correctly in the database. This is what it looks like in-game, but the item link appears blank. Is this just a display error or is the data not being captured? —Legoless (talk) 03:02, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

I'm not sure I'm actually capturing the data for dye stamps and if I am the is no code for displaying it. I'll check into it today. -- Daveh (talk) 11:59, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
So I wasn't actually capturing the dye data of item links previously. I updated uespLog and the parser/viewer along with the item data from PTS for update 12 which you can see here. The normal item data will have it updated when I do the item dump after update 12 goes live at the beginning of October. -- Daveh (talk) 16:30, 14 September 2016 (UTC)
Perfect! —Legoless (talk) 16:34, 14 September 2016 (UTC)

FW[edit]

Hey, boss, may you take a glance at this request, since AKB is seemingly inactive. Both him and Mars are seemingly absent, and neither of them are participating on the Tumblr account at present (and haven't been for some time). AKB never made me or Lola administrators on the Tumblr, so right now there is nobody currently who is able to access messages left for the Tumblr blog, we can't view or manipulate any submitted images or content that someone may want to leave, and other functionality. May you make me, Lola, or both of us administrators to the blog, so that we can work on everything? Thanks. -damon  talkcontribs 12:57, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Done! I think anyways as there were only two members of Tumblr who weren't admin and I'm guessing/hope they were you and Lola. -- Daveh (talk) 13:00, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
Yep, that's us. Thanks, Dave. -damon  talkcontribs 13:05, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

ESO Database: Recipe Components[edit]

Hey Dave, I was wondering if there was any way to get the component parts of a recipe logged for display in the database? Example: Comparing our Orzorga's Tripe Trifle Pocket Recipe with the in-game one, we do not have the item description, the "Ingredients" display, or the "To Create" criteria. Thanks! --Enodoc (talk) 17:30, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Anything is possible! I don't think we are logging the data required to display it right now but I'll look into how we can do it. -- Daveh (talk) 17:43, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
This turned out to be relatively simple to do so it should be mostly working now. I just had to redump the 550 or so recipes to get the required information and then manually piece together the data to create the output like in-game. It is manually done so if you happen to notice the item links of some recipes are not correct just let me know which ones. Similarily if/when you find other item types that don't have correct item link display. -- Daveh (talk) 23:35, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
That's great, thanks! --Enodoc (talk) 11:30, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

New island off the East coast of Stros M'Kai[edit]

Google+ Help[edit]

So I found a possible use for the Youtube channel, at least a temporary one until more permanent plans can be drawn up. But I've hit that familiar snag of me lacking some critical permissions. See, the Youtube channel is tied to the Google+ page, so permissions for one are given through the other. I can't give permissions in Google+. Baratron has expressed interest in posting videos on our Youtube channel. I BELIEVE that if you added baratrongirl@gmail.com to the Google+, it'll work as intended, and give her the Youtube permissions.

Everything besides that is going pretty smoothly, the Facebook broke 5k likes, and the Twitter and Tumblr had record months. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 23:06, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

Great! So I invited Baratron to Google+ as a manager like everyone and we'll see if that lets her do the things she needs to on YouTube. I've been thinking of doing some ESO videos as well so perhaps I'll add something in a next few weeks time permitting. -- Daveh (talk) 15:53, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
I remember we were chucking some ideas for the YouTube channel around a while back (lorebook recordings, game guides, machinima), but I can't actually remember where that discussion was. What sort of thing has Baratron come up with for the channel? --Enodoc (talk) 17:37, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
For now, the scope will probably stick to gameplay videos (most likely focusing heavily on ESO and Skyrim for now). I'm hoping to get groundwork laid before thinking any further. I'll post more about everything I've been doing on the side bits of the side soonish (mostly for accountability's sake). I do have thoughts and plans on what to do, but I don't want to write them out on Daveh's talk page and bug him with a ton of notifications. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 02:01, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

Map for Giant's Run subzone messed up[edit]

I know the Subzone maps are kind of low priority given that they haven't appeared in-game since beta, but we do have them on the UESP map for archival purposes, and I just noticed that the map for Giant's Run is messed up. See [1]. First off, there are two of them, "Giant's Run" and "Giants Run". Secondly, both of them are now showing the same interior map - not quite clear where this map is supposed to be or if it's duplicated somewhere. Just letting you know so you can look into it. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 22:53, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. Not quite sure what happened but perhaps got a double-entry for that map somewhere along the way. -- Daveh (talk) 17:33, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

ESOItem Database Update[edit]

I was wondering if it would be possible to update the ESO database to include items and collectibles from the most recent update? In particular, we need data on items from 2.6.9 like "Aetherial Dust". —Legoless (talk) 17:31, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

Oh yes...I'll do a quick update and just mine the new items. -- Daveh (talk) 17:33, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! —Legoless (talk) 17:33, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
I've updated the database to include just the 10 or so new items added recently. Some icons are currently missing but will be uploaded in an hour once I've extracted them. If there's any other item missing let me know. -- Daveh (talk) 20:24, 6 December 2016 (UTC)

Email Address[edit]

Could I please get a UESP email address? If possible, I would like AKB@uesp.net. I need it for one of the people on that list. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 13:40, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

Sure thing! I'll get it setup and send you the information later today. -- Daveh (talk) 14:01, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
I sent a confirmation e-mail to your "Pigeon" account. If you don't get it let me know your updated e-mail address to send it to. While it will say your email as "akb@uesp.net" it seems to be case insensitve so "AKB@uesp.net" will also work. There's a link in the e-mail to access the webmail account or just use http://mail.uesp.net. You can also setup it up to be forwarded to another GMail account. If you have any issues with it just let me know! -- Daveh (talk) 15:18, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

Christmas Map Registration[edit]

Hi Dave! I've signed for a giveaway as a contributor but entered an invalid email address (it should be at gmail.com not gmail.ru), what should I do now? Thanks, Phoenix Neko (talk) 13:43, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

No worries, I can fix it up manually. -- Daveh (talk) 13:59, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
Okay, should I write you an email or I presume you can see it in my profile? Phoenix Neko (talk) 14:22, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
I just fixed it manually in the submission form data. No further action is needed. Thanks! -- Daveh (talk) 15:19, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
Thank you! Phoenix Neko (talk) 15:25, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

Bot e-mail address[edit]

HNB2 will have the ability to e-mail users via the wiki, just like any other user would. While I don't expect to use that ability often, I'd like to have a dedicated address for it for any occasions that I do. Can I get hotnbothered@uesp.net, please? Robin Hood  (talk) 05:39, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

Done! You should be getting an e-mail with the temporary password and login details at your "live.ca" e-mail I have. If you don't get it let me know. You can access the GMail web interface at http://mail.uesp.net or you can have the mail forwarded to another GMail account. -- Daveh (talk) 15:32, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

Christmas Map[edit]

Hey Daveh, I submitted myself into the guaranteed winner form (for the poster map) under the impression that Patrollers qualified, but then realised that they don't. Sorry for any inconvenience or confusion, I'm just making sure you're aware that I don't qualify for that (so you don't accidentally mail me one :P ) AlphaAbsol (talk) 09:12, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
