Signing Talk Pages[edit]

Hiya Trogdor! As a courtesy to other editors, please use a proper signature on your talk page posts. To do so, simply add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comments. Your IP address (or username if you are logged in) and the date will then be automatically added along with a timestamp when you save your comment. Signing your comments helps readers understand who is involved in a discussion, and provides them with a link to your talk page (for further discussion, if needed). Thank you. — ABCface 16:25, 4 January 2013 (GMT)

No, thank you. I would really prefer to remain as anonymous as possible, sadly the wiki seems to automatically append my IP address at some point after I post despite deliberately not including the tilde signature. I sign my posts with a handle, that should be more than sufficient to let people know who is participating in the discussion. They don't need to know my IP address, or the date/time of my post, or be able to write on a 'talk page' dedicated to me and my edits. This is a wiki, not the forum. The focus should be on discussing information to improve the quality and content of the related article, and it shouldn't matter whom is participating in the discussion. I think if someone wants to contribute while remaining completely anonymous, they should be able to do so. So, respectfully, I will just continue doing what I have been doing, and if that is a problem for the site's administration, I will simply cease visiting the site. -Trogdor
If you wish your IP address to remain hidden, while using a "handle", why not simply create an account using that handle as your name. If you look at wikipedia, or any other well maintained wiki, the IP address or username is always added to a post, so it is not just us. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 12:58, 5 January 2013 (GMT)
It's not a problem if you wish to continue editing without adding a proper signature. We appreciate your contributions, and of course do not wish to turn you away. However, other editors will continue adding the {{unsigned}} template to your posts if they are unsigned, just like they do to all other unsigned talk page posts on the site. As a wiki, your IP address is logged every time you edit-- unless you create an account, in which case your IP address is hidden. As The Silencer noted, creating an account will allow you to be able to use a handle to sign your posts in much the same way as simply writing your handle at the end of your post. It's free, fast, and easy, and you're not required to create a userpage or use your talk page. I hope that you do not choose to cease visiting the site because of this, as that was not the intention of this discussion at all. It was merely a reminder to use a proper signature on your talk page posts in the future, because I did not know that you were intentionally leaving it out. Thank you for your contributions, and I hope that you do continue to help out on this wiki. — ABCface 18:31, 5 January 2013 (GMT)
