The Aetherial Mirror, Chapter VII: High Rock
by Vordur Steel-Hammer of the United Explorers of Scholarly Pursuits
The seventh part of the series about the retrieval of an ancient artifact

The search for the next fragment of the Aetherial Mirror brought the mages to Northpoint, a city on the northern tip of High Rock's Rivenspire region. A local scout, Alice Lamont, recognized the location from the journal as the ruins of the great Ayleid city of Erokii, high in the mountains of Boralis. The expedition climbed through the Ayleid passageways in the Shrouded Pass. Near the fragment's hiding place, they found an inscription in Ayleidoon:

Mittavoy an math av nou bala
Sino an sunnand delle bis anyammis
Auranvoy an wenaya lye va sou cyri
Asva nou seli sila lattanya

In Cyrodilic it becomes:

Enter the home of our power
Here the blessed-stone grants eternal life
Welcome the green tree in your hearts
Within our halls shines the life-light

The inscription dated back to the time when the ruin housed the famous Ayleid relic, the Lattanya, or the Light of Life, and also was the key to the puzzle locking the room, where instead of the Mirror fragment, the expedition found a vampire. He introduced himself as Gaubert Montclair and explained that he had returned to Erokii after the Rivenspire crisis to learn what had led to the demise of his family. Instead of answers, he had found the Mirror fragment, and after defeating its guardian, decided to stay in the ruin and study it. When Montclair learned the expedition's goal, he became hostile, and the fight that ensued soon moved to the cliffs in the shadow of the ruined Doomcrag. Defeated, Montclair dropped the Mirror fragment and plummeted into the valley below. Thus the mages acquired the sixth piece of the relic. However, before reaching the Guild vault, the piece disappeared in mysterious circumstances, only to reappear later just as inexplicably - and the reason for this was not known until much later.
