Potions[edit]

Here is a collection of a few of my potion recipes, from back when uh, I - uh, couldn't quite keep it under control. But I'm better now. Honest. I can quit anytime I want!

Except where stated otherwise, these potions are intended for an Expert alchemist. Amateurs beware!

Cures[edit]

It's a good idea to be prepared with cures for ailments you might encounter in your ingredient-hunts.

Note that pure cures always have the same effects (no duration or magnitude) so you can create cures even at low alchemy levels and keep them at full potency throughout the game: do not sell them!

Cure Paralysis
Milk Thistle seeds
Viper's Bugloss leaves
Foxglove nectar
Motherwort sprig -or- Alkanet flower (also gives "light")
Cure paralysis, resist paralysis, resist poison
This is the only Cure Paralysis base pair that does not require rare and potent Imp Gall, and it will prevent whatever paralyzed you from doing it again. The first two are the base pair if you just want a cure

Antivenom (core components)
Ginseng
Strawberry -or- Redwort flower -or- St. Jahn's Wort nectar
Cure poison
A Redwort and Strawberry version can be made at Apprentice level without side effects!
All antivenoms must include Ginseng to keep from being poisonous themselves! However, before Journeyman level you can make it with Redwort flowers and Strawberries, and the strength of this potion never changes, so make as many as you can then. Always a good idea to have some on hand

Ginseng Tea
Ginseng
St. Jahn's Wort nectar
Columbine root pulp
Dryad's Saddle polypore cap -or- Fire salts (omit if you don't need "resist frost")
Cure poison, fortify magicka, chameleon, resist frost
Maintains the versatility of your antivenom ingredients with added effects useful in many situations

Dispel (core components)
Grapes -and/or- Sacred Lotus seeds
Bergamot seeds -or- Mutton
Dispel
The Grapes & Mutton version can be made at Journeyman level
This potion should be made without a Calcinator! It burns off the antimagic essences and perversely weakens the Dispel effect.
A handy potion to have if you're magically silenced for example

Restorative Brain Tonic
Corn
Primrose
Alkanet Flower
Tinder Polpore Cap
Restore Intelligence, Restore Will

Mindforce Antidote
Crab Meat
Lettuce
Tiger Lily
Foxglove -or- Taproot
Restore Endurance, Restore Luck, Fire Shield

Restore Strength (core components)
Monkshood
Peony
Restore Strength

Restore Personality
Columbine
Lavender
Fly Amanita
St. Jahn's Wort
Restore Personality, Restore Health, Chameleon
The first two are the core pair if you just want a cure

Defensive Potions[edit]

Reflect Damage (core components)
Flour
Strawberry -or- Scamp skin -or- Green Stain cup cap -or- Deadra venin
Reflect damage
All reflect damage potions must contain flour as a stabilizer to avoid the "damage health" side effect. Be careful when adding other components.

The ONLY Reflect Spell (core components)
Cinnabar Polypore Yellow cap
Glow dust
Reflect spell
Made of rare ingredients, best used with other ingredients for additional effects, see below...

Countermage
Cinnabar Polypore Yellow cap
Glow dust
Blackberry
Fire salts -or- Steel Blue Entoloma cap
Reflect spell, fortify endurance, restore magicka
Meant to make good use of your rare ingredients

Immunization
Foxglove nectar
Bergamot seeds
Alkanet flower
Bloodgrass -or- Viper's Bugloss leaves
Resist poison, resist paralysis, resist disease
General-purpose resistance potion to get rid of common ingredients

Land Dragon Form
Dragon's Tongue (key ingredient)
Cheese wedge
Aloe Vera leaves
Motherwort sprig
Restore health, restore fatigue, resist fire, fire shield, invisibility
Best defense available from fire in a single potion - as everyone knows, land dragons are invisible

Firewalking (core components)
Dragon's Tongue (key ingredient)
Cheese wedge
Practically any "restore health" ingredient
Restore health, resist fire, fire shield
Best defense available from fire in a single potion from relatively common ingredients

Dragon Armor
Any two of: Lettuce, Crab meat, Cheese wedge
Almost any two of: Beef, Sheperd's pie, Summer Bolete cap, Tomato, Potato, Flax seeds (careful, Tomato with Potato gives "burden" as a side effect)
Fire shield, shield, restore fatigue
A strong shield in a single potion from common food items

Heavy Shield
Potato
Tomato
Morning Glory root pulp
Frost shield, shield, restore fatigue, burden
Add Bread loaf -or- Onion for a "detect life" effect
A strong shield from ingredients common near Skingrad... Burden's not that bad a side-effect is it?

Meat & Potatoes
Beef
Potato
Shield, restore fatigue
This potion can be made at Apprentice level!
A good shield to drink before entering battle. Anyone can make many of these out of cheap, common ingredients for sale at most inns. The drawback is the use of beef, which makes the potion heavy. Journeyman alchemists can make the following "shield" potions...

Shield
Flax seeds
Potato -or- Sheperd's pie -or- Tomato -or- Orange
Shield
Some variants of this potion can be made at Journeyman level Can never have enough spare shield potions. You can mix the food ingredients without flax seeds but some of them give "burden." Flax seeds and Bog Beacon Asco caps are a "shield, restore magicka" core pair without side effects, and should be used in more powerful potions.

Poisons[edit]

Poisons are more fun and more evil to make than potions. Spread the addiction!

If you have it, be sure to cast weakness to poison before administering any venoms to ensure maximum fast-acting effects.

Nonlethal poisons[edit]

These drugs are meant to disable an enemy without killing them. Note that you'll still need to breach the skin or hide in order to inject the chemicals into the subject's bloodstream, which may sting a bit. Some drugs do leave long-lasting effects but should generally not be fatal.

Hush
Motherwort sprig
Rat meat
Add: Wheat grain -or- Ham for "damage magicka"
Damage fatigue, silence
For stunning caster opponents without harming them, made from common ingredients

Sleeping Potion
Lady's Smock leaves
Motherwort sprig
Viper's Bugloss leaves
Monkshood root pulp
Damage fatigue, burden
For stunning opponents without harming them, made from common plants (may need several doses to be effective) This is basically two core pairs thrown together

Ball & Chain
Bread loaf
Tiger Lily nectar
Any two of: Viper's Bugloss leaves, Monkshood root pulp, Fly Amanita cap
Damage strength, burden
For weighing down and immobilizing opponents without harming them, made from common ingredients. (May need several doses to be effective.) Use immobilized enemies as archery targets

Weight of the World
Bread loaf -or- Leek -or- Primrose leaves
Tiger Lily nectar
Morning Glory root pulp
Any other non-food "burden" ingredient, like: Monkshood, Viper's Bugloss, Fly Amanita, Steel Blue Entoloma, Bloodgrass
Damage strength, damage willpower, burden
A version of the above potion that also damages willpower

Exhaustion
Bread loaf
Tiger Lily nectar
Troll fat, -or-
(Wisp stalk cap -and- garlic)
Damage strength, damage willpower, damage agility
Renders an enemy extremely susceptible to knocking out by fatigue damage (such as sleeping potion) and reduces their damage and ability to stay on their feet - great for cheating in the arena

Weakening Poisons[edit]

These venoms reduce an opponent's ability to fight, thereby protecting you.

Unbearable Exhaustion
Bread loaf
Primrose leaves
Troll fat
Scales -or- Wisp stalk cap
Damage strength, damage willpower, damage agility, damage health
Health damaging version of the exhaustion poison

Magebane
Wisp Stalk cap (harvest in caves)
Harrada (harvest from Oblivion)
Elf Cup cap (harvest around Skingrad, key ingredient)
Bergamot seeds -or- Rat meat -or- Deadra heart
Damage health, damage magicka, damage intelligence, damage willpower, silence
Bit of overkill really, but any mage can be safely ignored forever from the moment the poison is administered

Silence
Bergamot seeds
Rat meat -or- Deadra heart
Nightshade
Apple
Silence, damage magicka, damage luck, damage health
A mage-silencing poison from more common ingredients

Freezeblood
Milk Thistle seeds
Frost salts -or- Vampire dust (or substitute Dryad's Saddle polypore cap and lose the "silence" effect - all rare or hard to get)
Harrada (or substitute Clannfear claws or Deadra venin and lose the "silence" effect)
Scamp skin -or- Wormwood leaves (Or substitute any damage health component and lose the "damage magicka" effect: recommend strawberry, flax seeds, grapes, onion, pear, St. Jahn's wort...)
Damage health, frost damage, damage magicka, paralyze, silence
Real overkill for a reprieve from dangerous casting enemies

Paralyzing Venom
Harrada -or- Clannfear claws -or- Deadra venin
Milk Thistle seeds -or- Fennel seeds
Any "damage health" ingredients: Apple, Flax seeds, Nightshade, Grapes, Onion, Pear, Peony seeds, Scamp skin, St. Jahn's Wort nectar, Strawberry, Wormwood leaves...
Damage health, paralyze
While mixing any two of the first set of ingredients would give the same results, they're all rare ingredients of Oblivion origin, and it's a better idea to mix them with Milk Thistle seeds (which can be harvested along the Gold Coast region or in the northern mountains,) to create more poisons from your rare ingredients. You can also add a fourth ingredient for additional effects like "damage magicka"

Freezing Venom
Dryad's Saddle polypore cap (key ingredient)
Milk Thistle seeds
Harrada -or- Clannfear claws
Pear -or- Peony seeds -or- Green Stain cup cap
Damage health, frost damage, damage speed, paralyze
Will permanently deal with fast, aggressive melee creatures. Administer venom, flee, and forget. Unfortunately Dryad's Saddle is a very rare mushroom

Slow Poison
Boar meat
Green Stain cup cap -or- Pear -or- Peony seeds
Any non-food "damage health" ingredient: Flax seeds, Sacred Lotus seeds, Nightshade (also gives "burden") St Jahn's Wort nectar, Wormwood leaves, Wisp Stalk caps, Stinkhorn caps
Damage health, damage speed
Meant to slow down pursuit, and doesn't require Oblivion-based ingredients

Damaging Poisons[edit]

These venoms are primarily intended to quicken the demise of your enemies.

Deadly Poison
Spiddal Stick (harvest from Oblivion)
Ectoplasm (collect from ghosts in your haunted house)
Fly Amanita cap
Steel Blue Entoloma cap
Damage health, fire damage, shock damage, burden
Mainstay super-poison. Best delivered with sneak attacks for rapid kills of hard targets; a single dose can kill most creatures.

My First Poison
Nightshade (harvest from the West Weald)
Wisp stalk caps (harvest from caves and underground)
Damage health
This poison can be made by anyone!
A basic beginner poison from fairly common ingredients. Brought to you by Project Poison

Weak Poison
Any two of: Nightshade, Sacred Lotus seeds, St. Jahn's Wort nectar (harvest from the Great Forest)
Damage health
This poison can be made at Apprentice level!
Another beginner poison from even more common ingredients. Brought to you by Project Poison

Venom
Any ingredients of above poison, and/or: Scales, Strawberry, Wormwood leaves
Damage health
This poison can be made at Journeyman level
Project Poison, bringing affordable poisons for all

Venom (core components)
One or two of: Scales, Wormwood leaves, Nightshade, Sacred Lotus seeds, St. Jahn's Wort nectar
One of: Green Stain cup cap, Grapes, Apple, Onion, Strawberry, Watermelon
Damage health
Not all listed combinations will work, but these are ingredients you should have more of than you need, so you can afford to spend them on enough venom to poison every enemy you meet. By expert level with a decent lab, a simple poison like this can do 100 points of damage before your shield spell wears off
