Open Discussion[edit]

I would like to open discussion for the editing of this page. In my opinion the version posted on the 2nd of May in 2006 (while, itself, in need of editing for grammar, spelling, and style) is superior to that which currently exists. Furthermore, the current version is rather haphazardly thrown together, and lacks the formal polish one generally associates with such notices.
If nothing else, I would like to recommend that the date on the trademarks be updated to "2006", as all pertinent trademarks have been retained. In conjunction with such, I would recommend the company retaining ownership of said trademarks be accurately represented...that is, Media Technology Limited is not the owner, ZeniMax Media Incorporated is; MTL is a subsidiary department of the latter, and was purchased by ZeniMax shortly prior to their takeover of BethSoft...just two little notes if my recommendation for a complete redux should be declined. -- Booyah boy 05:10, 29 August 2006 (EDT)

There were three different versions of this page posted on May 2nd, 2006. Could you clarify which of the three you are referring to? --Nephele 10:31, 29 August 2006 (EDT)
It's now unprotected against editing. Have fun :) --Aristeo 17:59, 29 August 2006 (EDT)
First, my apologies for the late reply; I am afraid I came down with a slight chest-cold and was laid up for the day.
Back on subject, I was referring to Aristeo's version posted on the 2nd.
As to editing, I'll jump on it as soon as I can. Thanks! -- Booyah boy 08:59, 31 August 2006 (EDT)
I hope your feeling better today :) --Aristeo 13:24, 31 August 2006 (EDT)
Thank you for the kind thoughts, Aristeo, however I am afraid my health is a lost cause. I am still feeling rather down at the moment, although I can attribute most of it to lethargy.
That much aside, the disclaimer I just posted was based off those I have used on other pages and Wikipedia's own. I did not separate the content under headers, such generally lacking in a proper disclaimer. Furthermore, the use of all-caps is meant purely for emphasis, as it appeared stylisticly more appropriate than bold-faced type (at least, as regards other disclaimers). Thoughts? -- Booyah boy 07:42, 2 September 2006 (EDT)

For the record, Gamebryo isn't a ZeniMax trademark as stated in the article; the trademark on the GameBryo engine and name belong to its owner, Emergent Game Technologies. 24.205.96.182 15:55, 20 February 2009 (EST)

Thanks - fixed. –RpehTCE 16:11, 20 February 2009 (EST)

Hi all.

I want to know about the copyright for the use of Oblivion game resources in another Skyrim game?

Can I use Skyrim's Oblivion assets in my mod without any problems? Vchsl (talk) 19:16, 26 June 2023 (UTC)

Suggestions to New Version[edit]

I have a couple of suggestions to the new version by Booyah boy:

  • It should say that any information found on the UESP could be inaccurate, misleading, or even illegal.
  • Because of the reasons above, it should be noted that everyone can edit the game guide, and nothing on UESP is reviewed before going live.
  • UESP may contain content that contains spoilers, or content that one may find objectable.
  • Wikipedia has a pretty good example for a disclaimer, and it might be worth looking at.

It's looking good! As with your other projects, I can't wait to see this one when it's finished. --Aristeo 09:56, 2 September 2006 (EDT)

Honestly, thank you for the pointers, Aristeo; I'll be logging off soon (say, in half-an-hour), however, if these issues remain unresolved on the current disclaimer when I return (probably in five or six hours...I need to sleep), you have my word that I will revise such to include them. If I may ask, what did you think of the inclusion of the all-caps section? I have yet to see any elsewhere on the site, and while I support its inclusion on this disclaimer, I would appreciate some feedback. Again, thanks. -- Booyah boy 10:05, 2 September 2006 (EDT)
I liked the content of the section, but I don't think it's necessary to make it all capped since we have tools like bolding, italics, and font-size. Maybe we could bold some of the key points in the article. --Aristeo 10:16, 2 September 2006 (EDT)
Alright, I went ahead and edited the disclaimer to conform to your feedback, as best I saw fit. Foremost, the all-caps text was removed in place of bold-faced text. As to the bulleted suggestions:
  • (YOURS:) It should say that any information found on the UESP could be inaccurate, misleading, or even illegal.
  • (NOW INCLUDES:) "The UESP cannot guarantee the validity of any information contained herein and disclaims the accuracy of submitted information..." ....... "All information supplied herein is provided freely with no guarantee of accuracy, neither is there any guarantee that said information has been submitted by an expert in a legal manner."
  • (YOURS:) Because of the reasons above, it should be noted that everyone can edit the game guide, and nothing on UESP is reviewed before going live.
  • (NOW INCLUDES:) "...said information being posted without immediate peer review, and open to modification via any third-party."
  • (YOURS:) UESP may contain content that contains spoilers, or content that one may find objectable.
  • (NOW INCLUDES:) Furthermore, the UESP may contain information of a nature revealing particulars concerning Elder Scrolls literature and games ("spoilers") and information deemed objectionable or offensive to certain parties, all of which the UESP disclaims the responsibility of advisability towards.
Lastly, I did (in small part) model the current disclaimer after that of Wikipedia's (in content only, not style), and thus, am slightly confused as to your noting such as a possible source for comparison...am I to take it that you would prefer to see the disclaimer divided into sections (say, General Information, Damages, and Trademarks)?
I just thought that you may find use of it as a reference or style guide. --Aristeo 17:18, 3 September 2006 (EDT)
Ah, understood. I'll create and post a redux version with headers later on today. -- Booyah boy 02:57, 4 September 2006 (EDT)

Re-Protected[edit]

This is one of the pages on the site that ought to be more fully protected since it contains legal statements. Reviewing comments above, it seems that it was originally protected, but then was unprotected by Aristeo to allow editing by booyah boy. If any further edits are desired, they should probably be discussed/sandboxed here first, and then moved to the page by an admin if the changes are agreed to. --Wrye 16:14, 10 October 2007 (EDT)

New Trademarks[edit]

Given that ZeniMax/BethSoft have released new titles since the last update of this page (Dec. 2009), namely the various Travels titles, Skyrim and ESO, shouldn't these be represented under the trademarks section of the page? --Darkle ~ Talk 19:58, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Updates to Page[edit]

With Legends have passed from Dire Wolf Digital to Sparkpants, this will probably an update. Blades also needs adding to the list for Zenimax at the same time as the years being updated. Kiz(email - talk) 23:41, 1 February 2020 (GMT)

Proposed changes, August 2022[edit]

Should the lead paragraph also mention Microsoft, either in addition to or instead of ZeniMax Media?

In the last paragraph, should Microsoft be stated as the owner of the registered trademarks, either in addition to or instead of ZeniMax Media? Also, the end year should probably be incremented to 2022.

I don't work for or otherwise get money from any of the companies involved.

This is a pretty logical change, I support it. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 13:42, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
