Category?[edit]

It'd be nice if this template added pages to a category, perhaps one based on the page's namespace, so we could look up Category:Skyrim-Incomplete Pages, Category:Oblivion-Incomplete Pages etc. to find incomplete pages. --Morrolan (talk) 15:47, 6 October 2013 (GMT)

It does. It adds them to Category:All Incomplete Pages and incomplete pages in the namespace. Do you have it set so hidden categories show? Otherwise you won't see them. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 15:49, 6 October 2013 (GMT)
Ah, OK. Maybe put that in the documentation? I'll go fiddle with my user settings again I guess. --Morrolan (talk) 15:54, 6 October 2013 (GMT)
We probably shouldn't do that, as categories for things such as maintenance are supposed to be hidden. You could alternatively just click the edit button to make hidden categories appear listed with the rest. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 15:59, 6 October 2013 (GMT)
No, I meant put it in the documentation on this page that it adds pages to a hidden category, so people who want to check the lists will know that's where they are. --Morrolan (talk) 16:27, 6 October 2013 (GMT)
I'm saying that it is understood that these kind of categories added by these templates are always going to be hidden. We don't need to state that a template adds hidden categories when it's for maintenance, as virtually all maintenance categories should be hidden. Most editors would have hidden categories on, or know to just open up the editable version of a page. Alternatively, you could just go to the category directly, as the naming schemes for all of them are fairly straightforward if you know what you're looking for. Mentioning that the categories are going to be hidden is redundant due to the nature of this, and similar templates. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 16:35, 6 October 2013 (GMT)

() Hmm, just off the top of my head the Good Question category isn't hidden, the needing verification category isn't hidden, and the unconfirmed bugs category isn't hidden. I'm sure there are more that aren't hidden. --Morrolan (talk) 16:37, 6 October 2013 (GMT)

I didn't say all, I said virtually all. Let's not argue semantics for an issue I've already told you the solution to. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 16:40, 6 October 2013 (GMT)
Actually, I think most of our template documentation mentions which category or categories the template puts things into, even when hidden. Just browsing the first few categories on the Hiddencat links that I knew had associated templates, {{Split}}/{{Merge}}, {{Proposeddeletion}}, and {{Deletionreview}} all mention the specific hidden categories they're placed in as part of the docs, while {{Protection}} notes that it adds itself to categories and gives specific examples in the Examples section. I was more talking about explicitly pointing out that they were hidden, as that would be assumed. If you were talking about just adding a description in general, than I'm not in disagreement with you there Morrolan. As it stands, this article just doesn't have a summary (a bit ironic, considering what this template is for) so if you want to add one and mention what categories it adds, please go ahead. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 17:39, 6 October 2013 (GMT)
Well, that's what I meant. :) Anyway I've tried to make some changes here, I moved the documentation to Template:Incomplete/Doc for consistency with other templates I've looked at. Not sure if I worded it all that well, but hopefully it makes things clearer. --Morrolan (talk) 19:13, 6 October 2013 (GMT)
