Discussion moved from User talk:Morrolan#Dragonborn radiant location note

Hi Morrolan. I noticed that you added the templated Dragonborn Radiant Location Note to several articles. Do you think the bottom of the article, below the quest stage table, is the best place for this note? I'm thinking it might be better at the beginning of the notes section, since it's not relevant to the Quest Stages section of the article where you placed it. --Xyzzy Talk 15:48, 23 September 2013 (GMT)

Hello, Morrolan. Many of the articles which you have added that template to already has that information. For example, Totems of Hircine, Rescue, Fetch me that Book!, Animal Extermination, Shalidor's Insights already has it in the notes section/radiant options section/detailed walkthrough section. Lost Relic may not explicitly mention it, but the table in the detailed walkthrough lists Dragonborn locations. The very awkwardly placed templates (which Xyzzy has mentioned) repeat this information. IMO this information can be just added manually to these articles instead of using a template. ~ Psylocke 16:08, 23 September 2013 (GMT)
I agree with Psylocke here, adding notes manually is probably better in this situation. Not only do some quest pages already have the information, but as each quest differs in the way that radiant targets are used, it's more ideal to customize each note slightly so that it is more relevant to the specific page it is used on. Not only that, but some of the pages which already include the information do so in a more succinct manner. — ABCface 17:28, 23 September 2013 (GMT)
There are literally dozens of quests that need the information in that note added to them (133 radiant quest pages, many have radiant locations that can be on Solstheim). Only a few have the information already on them. I thought that making a template would make it easier to update them, and keep the information consistent across pages. Also if someone wanted to phrase the note better (which I'm all for of course ;) that would be easier if it's just editing a template.
I'm not sure if putting it at the bottom of the page or in a Notes section is better. I started putting it in at the bottom of the page because a lot of the pages didn't have a Notes section. The template is (hopefully) designed to work either way. --Morrolan (talk) 02:14, 24 September 2013 (GMT)
The Notes section is definitely better IF it's actually warranted, but spouting off the number 133 is a little extreme - many of the radiant quests cannot actually send you to Solstheim. Getting a legitimate number would be best before getting ahead of ourselves. — ABCface 02:46, 24 September 2013 (GMT)
From going through them, it seemed like roughly every other quest page had a radiant location that could be on Solstheim. "Bandit camp" was one of the common examples, an awful lot of quests can send you to one. --Morrolan (talk) 02:49, 24 September 2013 (GMT)
I support using a template note for this sort of thing, like the Radiant Quest Note. It's just easier and makes things more consistent. --Xyzzy Talk 03:23, 24 September 2013 (GMT)

() Surely a note on the Radiant page would suffice? When we're talking numbers like this it becomes redundant to add it to them all. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:44, 24 September 2013 (GMT)

I think users will come to the specific quest page looking for answers when they don't get a quest marker for it. Having the note in that article will answer their question immediately, rather than forcing them to figure out that the answer is on another page. --Xyzzy Talk 19:23, 24 September 2013 (GMT)
I'm going to move these to the Notes sections for now, since there doesn't seem to be any consensus, other than their current location isn't suitable. --Xyzzy Talk 04:04, 7 October 2013 (GMT)
