Did You Know

Suggestions for new segments

Can anyone add a new segment to the Did you know section?--Arch-Mage Matt 22:01, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

No, it's protected since it's displayed on the main page, but feel free to suggest DYKs here. --GKtalk2me 01:00, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
Okay, new suggestion:
Or something along those lines. Justeazy 04:00, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
I propose:

Discussing segments

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the necromancy wasn't banned by Mages Guild during action of TES4:Oblivion? - ZuTheSkunk 10:30, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, but it was not banned by the Tamaril Government. The Mages Guild has no power to pass law, only regulate its own members. Jadrax 10:39, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
That's not a good item to add, precisely because of confusion like this. Anybody can edit the list, BTW: it's not protected. rpeh •TCE 13:15, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

() I don't think Zu was suggesting adding it, because it's already on the list. And yes, I was mistaken, it's not protected; anyone can edit it. The page is here. --GKtalk2me 22:18, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

I just wanted to discuss this little thing that was uncertain for me, and this part looked good enough for me. Perhaps we'll divide adding suggestions and discussing segments already added, as I did now? - ZuTheSkunk 14:53, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

New Game (This is not a forum post)

So... For a "youngster" who doesn't get the 'retro style' could someone explain this a little furthur? I don't really get the description.--Arch-Mage MattTalk 23:02, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Gotcha :p rpeh •TCE 23:11, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Oh, ha. You made a fool out of me. Wow, I am really stupid. I cannot beleive I fell for that, even for a second. I'm tired. Goodnight. How did I fall for that?--Arch-Mage MattTalk 23:22, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
I am hitting myself for this. Sure I'll never forget this. You hurt me. =p --Arch-Mage MattTalk 23:28, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
It's like no matter where I go, there is always someone getting their feelers hurt over some very stupid thing...*shakes head* This is for Elder Scrolls, not drama!Cookies... lots and lots of cookies!!! 06:29, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
I think you misunderstood. It was an April Fool's joke and AMM didn't get it at first. His response, once he realized, was meant to be humorous as well. Robin Hoodtalk 06:48, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
That 'tis true. It was meant to be humorous. :) You can find out by spending five minutes with me that if I'm not expecting a joke, I won't see anything as one. --Arch-Mage Matt Did I Do That?

TES5 news?

So, there are any news about TES5 after the E3? - ZuTheSkunk 19:25, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Nope. --GKtalk2me 19:34, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
I've heard that it's name will be "Empire". --Rigas Papadopoulos 15:48, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
I think that's a joke. The only sources I can find for that are fake YouTube videos. rpeh •TCE 16:07, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
Really? --Rigas Papadopoulos 16:28, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
If you can find a link, please post it. rpeh •TCE 16:38, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
It's just a video of (Probably) some other game trailer, and at the bottom of the description it says "Just kiddin', it's a fake trailer".--Arch-Mage Matt Did I Do That? 19:25, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

At the Greek Oblivion Guild, (a website) I found information (very possibly fake) that says that the name will be Shadowrealm. --Rigas Papadopoulos 09:38, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

Today (15th September) Morrowind was the featured article on Wikipedia. Maybe worth a mention? --call999itsashark talkmail 15:36, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

It's vaguely interesting, but I don't think the fact that another wiki has highlighted a page is newsworthy. Our own coverage of Morrowind is rather more extensive after all! rpeh •TCE 09:02, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
Well, that is true, although it's not 'another wiki', it is the wiki, really :D --call999itsashark talkmail 15:17, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

TES V oblivion sequel

How credible is this rumour?

I dont think it has enough validity to be put on the main page.

I read the link and the idea that TES V will just follow oblivion and feature Mehrunes Dagon is to me laughable. I dont believe it at all.

1) The oblivion storyline is closed, Mehrunes is not coming back, otherwise what is the point of Martin's sacrifice?

2) Also, because the infernal city books have been declared canon we already know a bit about what happened after oblivion. It doesnt fit with this rumour.

3) Because of the infernal city books I find it highly unlikely that TES V will take place before them. It is far more likely that they are a bridge between TES IV and V.

--Merari 17:52, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

The rumour doesn't say anything about Dagon being the antagonist, or even being involved. Only that the events of the game will imediately follow on from Oblivion. Jayden Matthews 17:57, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
We're just reporting a rumor from a reputable source. It doesn't mention Mehrunes Dagon - it mentions "Dragon Lord" and the Blades, which could be seen as suggesting an Akaviri connection. Further, nothing in the rumor says that it the game couldn't fit in between the events of Oblivion and the events of TIC - there's roughly 40 years to work with and not too much stuff to fit into the gap. The player take a role in Titus Mede's ascent to the throne or in the split of the Mages Guild into the Synod and College of Whispers. You might be an early operative in the Penitus Oculatus. Gather supplies to help expand Ione. In short, it would be easy to fit a game into what we know and leave plenty of space for other things. rpeh •TCE 18:11, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

I see:) Thanks for the explanation, I think I misread 'dragon' as 'dagon'. I still think it would be more likely for TES V to take place after the infernal city, but you never know. The Akaviri have been prominent in lore for a long time now, and it would be interesting to see more of them. --Merari 01:31, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

TES V SKYRIM!!!! It was announced! --Arch-Mage Matt Did I Do That? 01:23, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

Spike's TV Video Game Awards -- it was announced. I'm still shaking. It mentioned "Dragon Ball" and it was a ver short trailor coming Nov. 11th 2011. --Arch-Mage Matt Did I Do That? 01:25, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
(e/c)At the moment it's just Twitter feeds from 3rd parties. Let's wait until an official Beth announcement. From what I've seen so far, they're talking about a release in Nov 2011, which doesn't make sense. Why announce a date a whole year in advance? rpeh •TCE 01:27, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
No, Todd Howard announced it on Spike's TV Video Game Awards. --Arch-Mage Matt Did I Do That? 01:28, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

He is <name>, Dragon Born!

The official spelling of the name announced as "Dragon Born" appears to be Dovahkiin, as found by watching the video with subtitles in other languages. Not "Novak'leen" as it is currently spelled in the front page announcement. Arthmoor 07:14, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

In all other languages the Dovahkiin is translated as Dragonblood not Dragonborn. --Killfetzer 09:41, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
I've changed it to Dovahkiin for now. It's interesting - everybody on IRC last night heard it as "Novak'leen" or some variant of that. It never occurred to me that it started with a "D". rpeh •TCE 10:15, 12 December 2010 (UTC)
Just thought I'd point this out to you guys so you know it's the official name. Pink Bob88 00:26, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Well with the official announcement of Skyrim, what is stopping the creation of the Skyrim section? It can be started by pulling the tidbits of info we know from the lore in other games to make pages for cities and such. — Unsigned comment by Stouf761 (talkcontribs) on December 15, 01:55 (UTC)

The fact we wouldn't have anything to say stops the creation. It would be of poor quality. Besides, you can't tell what the game will be like, for all we know, dragons burned down all of Skyrim. You can't tell now, and we won't. Let's wait till it actually comes out. Sign your posts please ~ Dwarfmp 02:16, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
EDIT: Besides, if anything is worth mentioning it will be on the Main Page. ~ Dwarfmp 02:19, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
The page will be created at some point soon enough. At the moment all we know for sure is the name and the date of release, along with the fact it'll use a new engine. Oh, and it's the 5th game. Doesn't make for much of a page really. Anything beyond that is speculation, and doesn't warrant a place on UESP. rpeh •TCE 10:53, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Should all Skyrim discussion regarding new information stay here or move to Skyrim's talk page... Stouf761 22:44, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
The Skyrim talk page has been locked (there were fears it might turn into a forum) so discussion will have to be here, in the community portal or on the Future of TES games talk page.--Tovenam 22:52, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Notice on Main Page?

Could we add something to the main page asking users to please not add speculation about Skyrim (Game)? I think that it might cut down on things like "This might be a reference to dragons as enemies in Skyrim, as they are described as "No-one Believed They Existed" and make it so that we don't have to salt Skyrim: pages that people make for speculation.--Ghurhak gro-Demril or TAOYes? 22:47, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

We could, but I don't think it's worth it. Notices like "On talk pages, please sign your name with four tildes", sic tags, and comments telling people not to change "Epony" to "Ebony" on a Morrowind quest don't work so I very much doubt a note on a page will stop anything. rpeh •TCE 00:40, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Gameinfomer Magazine screenshots!!!

Why has no-one covered this this is front page worthy news

i really think this should be on the front page or at least something about the gameinformer article even if it is on Skyrim. Varus Vantinius 07:21, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

As cool as it is to have screen shots floating around, they just aren't high enough quality to warrant posting on the site, not to mention possible copyright issues (of which I have zero expreience in, so don't quote me on that one :)) stemming from the fact that they're pulled straight from the magazine. The News thread has information on the Game Informer feature and the behind the scenes video, but that's about the best we can hope for until quality shots are made available. Dlarsh(T,C) 07:33, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
so you wont even put a link to the shots and update that the magazine is out, or update the skyrim page with TONES of info like dual wielding and mystcism being taken out, people would really like to know this and putting a link and updating the sources isnt going to break copywrite, they even talk about a new radiant AI system you should actually READ the articles on the pics Varus Vantinius 09:18, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
We will probably put it up if they put up the article on game informer itself. If it came from any other source we will have to worry about quality, reliability, and availability (as it likely breaks copyright laws it can easily be taken down). In the mean time we're waiting, so calm down. We will all learn about it eventually and until Skyrim is released to the public it doesn't seem to be a high priority on the wiki, and it won't be until we have it in our hands. The reason we do not have a Skyrim page is that until the game is released any information will likely be widely innacurate. For example look at this video about Oblivion's radiant AI from [[1]] Youtube. Noticed how that AI is much, much, much better and realistic than the one packaged in the game? That is why we aren't spreading rumors like school girls. We will embarrass ourselves in retrospect. Alpha Kenny Buddy 18:44, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
It's not going to happen. Posting (or linking to) the scans is a copyright violation. Mxk101 18:51, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
okay fine, whatever but seriously not "a high priority on the wiki"? correct me if im wrong but this wiki is about the elder scrolls so why does an article about a RUMOR that the next ES is gonna be a sequel to oblivion more of a priority than solid evidence (this isnt fake too many ppl have posted the pages) and tones of new info about the real next game. i also bet that you reported on those AI systems before oblivion, and spreading rumors like school girls? grow up, there was a whole news article about a stupid rumor that in "retrospect" does make you look "embarrassing", now im not familiar with copywrite so i wont challenge you on that but ive seen plenty of links in this wiki leading to pics and such, i think this news deserves at least a mention for people to google the pages or just inform them there out. so ending on a calm note, thankyou Varus Vantinius 15:52, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
The important information has been added to the Skyrim article already, which is where it belongs. The news article about the "stupid rumor" that "in "retrospect" does make you look "embarrassing"" turned out to be 100% correct - it is a sequel to Oblivion, and if you read the link, there is indeed someone called the Dragonborn. rpeh •TCE 17:03, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Updates for Skyrim - Gameinformer

I'm not sure who the person is that has been updating the main page for all of the Gameinformer news we've been getting, but it's been great. Just wanted to mention that the Imp Library usually has the newest links if you don't want to go searching the GI website. Here's the address : Linara/Nell 00:39, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

If you read the article above this one you can see for some reason they think it is "irrelevent" or not worthy, i have no idea why they just dont seem to care. that or they may just be updating the skyim:skyrim page Varus Vantinius 06:50, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Bethesda Forums Down?

Hey guys, I was just checking the Bethesda forums and there's an error with the database. Is this just me, or everyone else as well? Linara/Nell 19:13, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

It's working for me. Unfortunately. rpeh •TCE 21:35, 19 February 2011 (UTC)

Must have been just me. Almost never get on now, because the whole place screams speculation! It's like a punch in the face. Linara/Nell 04:11, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Nothing very important, but you may want to know...

Skyrim made it to GameSpot's current most popular games. For PC it is 3rd, for Xbox 360 it is 10th and for PS3 it is 16th. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 15:24, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

"USEP Wiki has a problem"

Whenever i tried to go anywhere but the main page it changed the name to USEP Wiki has a problem and then it shows me the main page with those words visible behind the top buttons. Did anyone else get this?--Iamgoofball 04:45, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

This is just a minor suggestion, but I think instead of having a link to Vivec in the FA above the excerpt, we should just now link the bold/first instance of it like Wikipedia. Looks a little cleaner, IMO. Elliot (talk) 00:23, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Earlier this year Bethesda made it possible to ask questions about Skyrim, but I haven't gotten any answers yet. Does anybody know when they will answer? — Unsigned comment by Athathar (talkcontribs) on 20 June 2011

In their own time. The charitable view is that it's taking them a while to sort through the million questions they received; the alternative view is that they're just waiting for E3 hype to die down before starting some new hype. rpeh •TCE 21:20, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

FI Caption is Incorrect

The caption for the current featured image (Frostcrag Spire and Planets) is incorrect. Masser and Secunda are moons, not planets. I know it's a small thing, but it kind of bugs me :) Dlarsh(T,C) 16:33, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

I just realized something big....

How come this wiki (the best one out there and far better than error filled game guides), isn't the official wiki for the Elder Scrolls series? (Opinion: it puts to shame any other wiki for the series)"There is always hope"-Aragorn 04:25, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Because it isn't owned by Bethesda Softworks? It isn't anymore complicated than that. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 04:30, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Ya that has to be the reason then..."There is always hope"-Aragorn 04:32, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
We should really praise all the hard work you guys put into this beter than the best wiki! Ever since I found it by looking up vampires i have always used this wiki alone for this game series! (Frist praise)"There is always hope"-Aragorn 04:43, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

I most definitely agree with you, this site is the workmanship of a genius... well... GeniusES. :D Kudos everyone! Vos 06:57, 25 July 2011 (UTC)

Pre-order bonus

It might be worth a mention on the front page that pre-ordering any version of the game includes a cloth map of Skyrim. I'm pretty sure it goes for all merchants, as both Best Buy and Gamestop list it. Stouf761 17:57, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

It's already mentioned in the news articles currently on the main page. It's not really so crucial a bit of information that it would need to be noted separately on the main page. --GKtalk2me 17:07, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

It is also worth noting that Steam has been confirmed as the DRM for Skyrim --Sorlac 21:40, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

That is also on the article. rpeh •TCE 06:43, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Just wanna clarify one something, it says on the new article for PAX Prime that Todd Howard will be showing a "new" presentation. Yeah, listing the actual name of the FA is a bit difficult, as we have yet to discover a attractive layout. It was easy enough with Syl and Journey to Aetherius because we could start the first sentence with the link name. This one is a bit trickier, because of the quest header/giver and all that. I’ll have to admit it looks quite good now, even without the link. No worries though, we’ll find a spot before long. --Krusty 07:51, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
By the way, how often do we change them? Weekly? Monthly? Or bot does that automatically? --Arkhon 16:09, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
