Picture[edit]

I think the most fitting picture would be of the Night Mother Athathar 19:01, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

Limited variation[edit]

The Dark Brotherhood Forever quests aren't randomly generated, rather both the contact and target are randomly selected from two very small pools of pre-generated generic NPCs which will begin to occur again and again after you've completed the quest a few times.

There is so little variation that you'll often end up getting a contract several times in a row to kill the same generic NPC, such as the noblewoman in Solitude who will follow the same path every time.

Once you've killed all the different targets there will never be any new element to the 'random' quests.

Am I correct in assuming that this will permanently be in the quest log? (Like the "See Companion Leaders for Work quests) 70.176.10.9 01:45, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

Reward[edit]

There should be a chart or a table or something showing the leveled gold reward. — Unsigned comment by Squid (talkcontribs) at 15:06 on 18 December 2011

Possible Bug?[edit]

I was told to go see an Unemployed Laborer in Rorikstead. However, all we will say to me is "I don't know you."

However, the quest target did update, and I was assigned a victim to kill. I'm not sure whether I was paid. — Unsigned comment by 174.21.129.4 (talk) on January 8, 2012 00:26

Single page for NPCs[edit]

Since the NPCs (both victims and hirers) only exist for this quest and are all very similar, should we consolidate them into a single page of hirers and a single page of victims with a section for each person? Chris3145 18:28, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Here is an example page. Chris3145 18:42, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
I agree with this idea; there seems little point in having separate pages for each of the contract givers and targets. Given that it seems both sets of NPCs only vary in location and faction (and little else), they could all go on the quest page in list form under separate headings for contract givers and targets? Images could then be provided in gallery form at the foot of each section, something like this. --Reka 11:06, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
We have two discussions on this topic - please respond here instead. --Krusty 18:35, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

Possible bug[edit]

Scheming Servant was my 2nd contact for this quest. I found him in Understone Keep, but I couldn't initiate any kind of dialog. I push the talk button and nothing happens. Reloading didn't fix it, leaving the area and coming back didn't fix it. I had to completely exit the game and then reload, then it worked. Although this problem is presumably solved for me, I didn't see anyone else post anything about a similar issue so I wanted to mention this in case there are similar issues. storyline bug???[edit]

I'm send to the corrupt agent for a victim. However i joined the stormcloaks and now i only get "E) Corrupt Agent" and no dialogue is possible. It's not important for the storyline to fullfill all nightmothers requests, but i get stuck in this quest now. — Unsigned comment by 195.7.159.146 (talk) at 10:38 on 21 May 2012

night mother bug?[edit]

unemployed labouror[edit]

I WAS SENT BY THE NIGHT MOTHER TO CONTACT THE UNEMPLOYED LABOUROR BUT HE WONT TALK TO ME I HAVE RELOADED THE GAME SAVED AND EXITED TO MY DESKTOP AND WENT BACK AND HE STILL WONT RESPOND``ANYBDY ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM ```` — Unsigned comment by 24.36.245.201 (talk) at 21:47 on 28 January 2013

Maybe try waiting a hour or punching him. If all else fails and you want to continue. Kill him. Hes a generic npc anyway and will respawn. Im sure this won't kick you out the guild since that's your job. But just in case, save beforehand. Cjesseg (talk) 19:05, 16 March 2014 (GMT)

Possible bug[edit]

Well i have talked to the Night Mother and started a contract with the gambler in the barracks of Windhelm. He instructs me to kill the target, visiting noble in Dragonsreach, I do this and go see the Night Mother then she gives me same contract with the gambler. I have doe this contract 3 times now. — Unsigned comment by 66.142.211.111 (talk) at 19:02 on 13 March 2013

Discovered Fix[edit]

You can also (if bugged) enter player.sqs on the console followed by the quest ID (for example player.sqs dbrecurring) this will bring up all stages in the quest, you can use this to bypass a bugged quest section by entering another code, with the setstage code (for example, Setstage dbrecurring 30) — Unsigned comment by 66.26.227.16 (talk) at 17:27 on 18 June 2013

dark brotherhood fornever?[edit]

I did a contract from nasfir and now the night mother isn't giving me anymore quests. I mean it's nice to clean up your quest log and everything but gold is better ;-; how do I fix this? It was after killing the greymor maid and the maiden who walks around in markarth. — Unsigned comment by 172.56.26.50 (talk) at 19:28 on 15 January 2014

Do they ever end?[edit]

Do the contracts ever end or is the quest permanently stuck in my journal? Cjesseg (talk) 00:17, 14 March 2014 (GMT)

The Night mother quests, at least, continuously repeat, forever from my experience. Much like the Companions quests, where every time you finish one, it starts a new one. Oh, it implies but is not specific, "This is a recurring quest that takes place after you finish the Dark Brotherhood questline." 1NUY4SH4 (talk) 02:28, 31 March 2014 (GMT)
Which part of "forever" did you find ambiguous? 73.110.45.84 15:38, 1 February 2021 (UTC) -Mode7Ghost

Intimidation Not Possible[edit]

In the Notes section, someone has put in that if you intimidate the target during dialogue you can get them to attack you and then killing them won't give you a bounty. But it doesn't seem possible to initiate any sort of dialogue with any of the possible targets; if you approach them or try to talk to them they will give out some comment, but that is all. Both my sister and I have done multiple quests, and have never been able to hold a conversation with any of the targets. If no one here has been able to talk to the targets, perhaps we should remove the note about intimidating them into attacking, since it doesn't appear to apply to this Dark Brotherhood radiant quest. — Unsigned comment by Chocoholic (talkcontribs) at 21:30 on 22 November 2014‎ (UTC)

Possible Bug[edit]

I talk to this guy and kill the target and then I go back and the Night Mother gives me the same guy and the resurrected target — Unsigned comment by 92.27.227.201 (talk) at 18:21 on 2 May 2015‎ (UTC)

Randomly generated quest gives randomly generated results. There's a slim chance for it to happen, so it happens. 73.110.45.84 15:40, 1 February 2021 (UTC) -Mode7Ghost
