Observations[edit]

Moved from article:
I've found a location that is unmarked on the map, even upon finding and entering. It is called "The Chill", and holds no apparent importance whatsoever. It's a small cave room, which is found if you walk/swim past where Septimus Signus is found. I haven't yet found anything about this place online, or what it is for. There is a frost astronotch in the room, so be prepared to fight it. There are three cages in the room, each with a bed roll, and two skeletons. they only have 1-3 gold pieces. there are barrels in the room but, only one has items (3 bowls of salt). I'm still looking into this.

[Edit: Okay, i have exited The Chill, and there are now three Frost Astronotchs standing here, ready to fight. This may be a difficult fight for some, ranging/maging seems to work from a different island.] They only drop frost salts.

After killing these astronotchs, the barrels inside of The Chill are now filled with various vegetables. Strange. — Unsigned comment by 74.67.215.7 (talk) on 20 November 2011

Jail[edit]

Does the Chill function like a normal jail i.e - if you sleep in the bed roll do you complete your sentence? I haven't been arrested in Winterhold before so I'm curious if you still have your things removed, where do they go etc.? If anyone has managed to get themselves locked up in the Chill, please fill-in! I might get myself in trouble to see what happens, but I've got items I don't want to lose at the moment so it might be a while -- Haravikk 13:55, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

I don't remember where I've given this information, but you can't steal your things back from a chest like other jails. I don't know where they go, though. Vely►Talk►Email 16:37, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
I never seemed to lose any of my things. 67.170.53.143 08:18, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
There is no evidence chest in Winterhold, so therefore you do not lose your stolen goods. VycDarkshadow (talk) 05:47, 8 February 2013 (GMT)

The Chill[edit]

The Wiki states The Chill cannot be fast traveled to, but I just did it. I was at Septimus Signus' Outpost after finishing that quest, and decided to keep to the northern shores hunting down ice wolfs and horkers when I happened upon this place. I was able to fast travel to it no problems whatsoever. Running latest Skyrim as of July 23rd 2013. — Unsigned comment by 173.24.175.116 (talk) at 17:11 on 23 July 2013

an answer as good as any.[edit]

your followers can be randomly transported into one of the locked cages on "the chill". only quest related is.. save your followers. because no matter how many days you wait or how much you travel, a locked there follower, wont come back to you. happened to my followers right after I made the quest to join stormcloaks(and no, they dont need crimes on their past). — Unsigned comment by 186.206.72.233 (talk) at 11:59 on 4 February 2015
