Bug[edit]

First off: I'm on a PS3 and am experiencing a variant of criteria for the bug that is not listed.

After obtaining this quest, I had to walk to the Fort as my "Show on Map" option was/is grayed out, I arrived east of Fort Dunstad. As I approached, the quest updated with the completion of joining the men attacking Fort Dunstad. Immediately after completion of that step, it added the next: "Take over Fort Dunstad by defeating the enemy (100% remaining)." From what I see here, this is normal. However, there is nobody here. Not inside, not outside, not Stormcloak, not Imperial. Nobody at all.

Where my experience differs from the details on the main article:

I'm level 66 and have already completed the main quest to slay Alduin, so the peace council part has already been done and gone. I have also never had Fort Dunstad on my map prior to accepting this quest, so there was no opportunity to inadvertently kill everyone here beforehand. --68.175.59.41 11:46, 11 December 2011 (UTC) patnodewf

Theres the problem, the entire civil war line should be deactivated after the peace treaty. Therefore you shouldn't have been able to get this quest at all. Hence all the bugs! Lord Eydvar 02:50, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
I'm having a slightly different problem. In my game, I have finished the main storyline, and held off joining the Legion until just now. I charged into the fort, and started fighting Stormcloaks, who were there, but after killing about 15% of the soldiers.... they all vanished. Not a trace. It's crazy. But I really wanted to finish this quest....! 122.148.137.210 07:23, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
I'm level 22 on PS3 and haven't touched the main quest line since I went to High Hrothgar. I walked up to Dunstad, and somehow failed meeting the men, who just happened to not be there. I walked inside, all over the rooms, and everywhere is empty but I still have 100% left. Is there a fix? — Unsigned comment by 77.101.197.188 (talk) at 17:06 on 7 March 2012
PC User here, I was wondering if theres a console command to reset the quest? I got the classic empty fort when I went to it as an Imperial.— Unsigned comment by 184.19.66.159 (talk) on 2 April 2012

Battle of Fort Dunstad Stormcloak attacking[edit]

On the PC doing the Stormcloak quests I was sent to the Pale and completed the Battle of Fort Dunstad. No glitches encountered except that after the battle some of the Stormcloak soldiers marched back out of the fort and then ran back in as if attacking it again. After the battle I reported to Ulfric and was given an elven sword then told to go to the Rift and liberate it. --Tiger8u2 06:12, 16 December 2011 (UTC)

Huh Dunstad is only on the Imperial end of the Civil War quests. You attack the fort over by Morthal if you're doing the Stormcloak side. Lord Eydvar 02:48, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

No Stormcloaks to attack[edit]

First off i'm on the 360. I've just got to the fort, and like the first post, there are no Stormcloak soldiers to attack anywhere. The bug is nothing to do with having been there before because i never have. Would appreciate it if anyone knew of a work around for this? Citti 23:33, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

Weird I've done the entire Civil War questline from both directions at least twice (I start over a lot rofl) and haven't had a single problem with bugs at all. Only thing I've had is sometimes soldiers on either side will just stop fighting but won't be everyone so the quest still works out just slower. Lord Eydvar 02:46, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
Ha, i start over a lot too, mainly cause of broken quest though, it's getting a bit ridiculous. I've not been playing to be honest since this quest broke, got a bit annoyed but i may start over again and delete all patches see if that helps. Everyone i know who's played on an unpatched version has had no problems. What patch are you running on, if any? Citti 21:45, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
Confirmed for 360. Never been to the fort before, Imperials spawned, Stormcloaks didn't. A reload from earlier and resting both failed to fix it. I think I'm running 1.3.7.0. — Unsigned comment by 72.64.69.44 (talk) at 21:02 on 1 January 2012
I think I found a way to get past the bug. Reloading doesn't work (although for some it does, after like fifty tries). Before you even recieve the quest, go to Fort Dunstad (it's south of Dawnstar), and stay long enough for the StormCloaks to consider you an enemy, but leave before they attack you (don't kill any of them either). Then go to Legate Rikke and get the quest. When you go back, they should still be there. DON'T FAST TRAVEL to or from the Pale and Fort Dunstad, or they'll disappear. — Unsigned comment by 209.179.125.132 (talk) at 19:42 on 28 December 2012

The Battle for Fort Dunstad Bug.[edit]

I'm a PS3 owner. I am also haveing the same problem. However, I have finish the main story line. When The Battle for Fort Dunstad quest starts, I meet up with imperial soldier, quest updates but there is no stormcloak solider to kill. Fort Dunstad is empty. The Battle for Fort Dunstad quest is unfinishable and civil war quest line. Civil war quest line seem to have various bugs. — Unsigned comment by 137.200.1.112 (talk) at 17:15 on 22 December 2011

both stormcloak and imperial[edit]

seems like every fort battle is split like this. if you give the pale to the empire during Season Unending and then join the stormcloaks, you get sent here after a while. (Eddie The Head 09:29, 11 January 2012 (UTC))

XBOX[edit]

So is there anyway to fix this glitch ? im on xbox and i get the the fort and absolutely no one is there imperial or stormcloack, (except for a few horses). and i haven't even gotten close to finishing the main questline. I really dont feel like starting over. Is there any way to fix this? — Unsigned comment by 71.52.245.114 (talk) at 21:08 on 26 February 2012

When I had this issue I read on Youtube a comment that attacking the Jarl of Dawnstar to zero health (he wont die just go on one knee) that it would change the quest to complete so tried it as had done all other suggestions and it worked and let me continue the quest. — Unsigned comment by 90.205.236.4 (talk) at 20:41 on 28 June 2014

5 % remaining[edit]

I am a ps3 user and while doing this quest after killing everybody it still says 5% remaining. it wont go down and no more enemies come so I am stuck at 5% and I am able to move forward. — Unsigned comment by 76.108.232.246 (talk) at 03:51 on 1 March 2012

  • Hello, I'm a PC user and I also have the same problem. If anyone could help, that'd be much appreciated. --173.71.93.16 14:52, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
Alright.Ps3 user, one of the enemies might have glitched through the floor, try using detect life to check.PC user, use the command tcl to go through the floor and see if there are any enemies there.Or you could use the command setstage to force the quest to update.--Skyrimplayer 14:56, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

No Quest Given. (Xbox)[edit]

After I completed the False Fronts quest I was never given the quest for The Battle for Fort Dunstad. All I have is the Reclaim the Pale and points me to the Imperial camp to speak to Legion Rikke. I have already passed Season Unending quest so I can't reset it that way. I have visited Fort Dunstad, but when I went there and have agian there where only Bandits not stormcloak, unless I am mistaking the forts but I am almost positive that is what happened. I do not want to start a new character because it seems to boring since I know exactly what to do, but if i have to I just might. And this has been happening through all the patches since I originally bought the game in November (quit playing because of this bug too.) — Unsigned comment by BeenCarl (talkcontribs) at 02:25 on 13 September 2012‎

Solution to completing The Battle for Fort Dunstad[edit]

Go to For Dunstad. Then, in the console command type "setstage cwfortsiegefort 9000", it completes the quest. I haven't come across any other solutions that fix the actual glitch — Unsigned comment by 41.123.11.118 (talk) at 19:39 on 11 January 2013

Nobody at the Fort[edit]

I own a PS3. I'm a level 10, and I haven't been to High Hrothgar yet. I decided to join the Legion. On the mission, The battle for Fort Dunstad, I get to the checkpoint. No allies, but it says I "Completed" that objective, so anyway, I think, "Thats weird", but I go on to the Fort. Empty. It was 12:00 in the night in the game so I thught they were in the Fort. Nope. This has potentially ended my fight with The Empire. Help? — Unsigned comment by EricPiatek (talkcontribs) at 20:34 on 8 July 2013

The quest page has a couple fixes listed at the bottom of the Bugs section, though neither really seem ideal and haven't been verified. Remembering to save often, you can try those ideas for starters, then update back here if neither fix works. — ABCface 21:14, 8 July 2013 (GMT)

PC Bug[edit]

I have never had this problem before and i own both a pc and 360 version of skyrim but not on the pc when i go to attack fort dunstad there are no soldiers from either side and it still says ive met with the imperials soldiers. Any help. This is an inredibly frustrating bug. — Unsigned comment by 82.20.247.235 (talk) at 21:06 on 19 August 2013

Have you checked the bugs section on the quest page? If this happens on PC, you can try the related fix posted. — ABCface 05:02, 21 August 2013 (GMT)
