Throat of the World[edit]

You can also find Ebony ore and Malachite ore at "The Throat of The World" next to "Notched Pickaxe" you can reach this by following the main quest line or by a very intense climb up the side of the mountain this is time consuming and difficult but can be done at any level, save often. --Jester — Unsigned comment by 174.254.16.71 (talk) at 09:37 on 22 December 2011

Those are all ore veins, not already-mined ore. This page is only providing details on already-mined ore; veins are documented at Mining. — Unsigned comment by 174.254.16.71 (talk) at 09:38 on 22 December 2011

Other "Ore"?[edit]

Should Dragonbone, Dragonscale, and Daedra Hearts be added? Dragonbone and Dragonscale are needed for Dragonbone and Dragonscale armor, and Daedra Hearts are needed for Daedric weapons and armor after all... I know this page is for "Ores and Ingots", but I also understand that part of being an "ore" is harvesting from some vein. Although Daedra and Dragons are not "veins", the items do still need to be "harvested", except for Daedra Hearts which are more likely to be bought in Alchemy Shops or found on Hagravens (I've found so far three Daedra Hearts on Hagravens not tied to any quest and I'm on the 360, so no modding was done), but I digress. They are still needed to make the weapons and armor, so are they to be added or no? 2:10 AM, 25 Dec, 2011 (CST). — Unsigned comment by 50.103.46.55 (talk) at 08:11 on 25 December 2011 (GMT)

No, they don't belong here. The primary criterion for what belongs on the page is that the items have the VendorItemsOreIngots keyword, which defines whether blacksmiths buy and sell them. Furthermore, there are dozens of obscure items need to forge or improve various items in the game -- all types of Animal Hides, Ectoplasm, Void Salts, etc. -- which have nothing in common other than smithing. Many of them aren't even miscellaneous items. They have nothing to do with mining or smelting or the Mine Ore quest or transmuting, or any of the other topics shared by items on this page. --NepheleTalk 08:43, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
Hey Nephele, when talking about other ore, should we include Stalhrim ore in this article? I know there's at least 1 vendor on Solstheim that sells it, you can mine and smelt the ore, though I'm not sure if you can sell the ore to an NPC to raise their disposition. Would this be enough to qualify as belonging on this page? Cheers! Chocoholic (talk) 04:11, 25 June 2015 (UTC)

Buying Malachite Ore[edit]

The comment "EDIT: yes it is at orc forts" was added to Malachite Ore, following the statement "Is not sold by merchants". I just double checked the game data and I'm not seeing any evidence of merchants, even Orc Stronghold merchants, having any Malachite Ore to sell. (Note that the ingot, Refined Malachite is available for purchase, but that information does not belong in the section on ores).

If anyone believes it is available for purchase, could you please first verify that it's not just Malachite Ore that you previously sold to the merchant -- any merchant will sell items back to you, but it doesn't make them a source for the item. If it's not, could you then provide information on who exactly sold you the ore? --NepheleTalk 05:40, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Ditto for the comment "Dushnamub sells Orihalcum in small quantities" added to Orichalcum Ore. Can someone confirm that this is Ore and not Ingots? Furthermore, it would also be useful to know where Dushnamub (or any vendor) was located if you were able to purchase such ores -- e.g., in the longhouse, in the mine, etc.
Even if it is somehow possible to occasionally purchase some of these ores from blacksmiths at orc forts, it clearly is not happening through the standard merchant mechanisms. Which means the ore is not guaranteed, and the circumstances under which you are able to purchase the ores are unusual. The conditions necessary for buying the ore need to be worked out before the information can usefully be added to the article. Otherwise we're sending readers on a wild-goose chase to find an item that they may have little or no chance of finding. --NepheleTalk 17:37, 7 January 2012 (UTC)

3 ores when mining[edit]

You always get 3 ores when mining, but the article says 1-3. Or is the amount different depending on console? I'm playing the 360 version, fully updated. Icko 02:06, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

I play on the ps3 and I always get 2.Br3admax 02:10, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
same i get 2 one time i got 3 dose anyone know if how big the vein is matters— Unsigned comment by 98.159.19.253 (talk) at 13:39 on 7 January 2012
You have a random chance of receiving 1-3 ore per vein. From what I've seen the first mining attempt is always successful, and the last 2 attempts have a chance of failure. The system will make the ore sound but no ore will be received on failure.107.10.210.65 01:15, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
Are you sure you only get 2? I have noticed that you only get a message when you get the first and third ores, because the messages are too fast... It's like when harvesting plants. If you harvest, say, 3 blue mountain flowers, you only get a single message saying you recieved it, but you still get 3 of them. Icko 23:52, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
You always get three. It only shows the message about getting Ore twice because of them being too fast. You never get only one or two - ALWAYS three; at least on PC v1.3 Tested extensively by power levelling Smithing by using only self-mined Ore. It never, ever yields anything other than three Ore samples from any vein of any size, inside a mine or outside in the wilds, anywhere. The number in this table should be changed to three unless someone can provide actual proof, by youtube video or showing the game code, of there being any chance of something other than three ores being received. 109.193.121.249 19:58, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
I always get 3 on PS3 as well as far as I know. --D. Gemini 03:03, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

DOES ORE RESPAWN?[edit]

Does ore respawn? Whether yes or no the info would also be good on the article imo. --D. Gemini 03:04, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

Yes they respawn, but I can't remember if they take ten days like areas or thirty like plants. Artemis Entreri (talk) 14:53, 12 September 2012 (GMT)

About "Scrap Metal"[edit]

Shouldn't it be noted that the broken pieces of weapons are most likely the remains of weapons being able to be broken with use on early stages of developement and that it may been discarded on a later developement stage? --190.225.174.225 21:40, 29 October 2012 (GMT)Datcoolguy

No, that would be speculation. No, more likely, the broken weapons are just meant for you to draw a picture in your mind of what happened there, so basically, they're just there for aesthetics.--Skyrimplayer (talk) 21:46, 29 October 2012 (GMT)
But as much as you say they are there for aesthetics only a couple of all of them are actually used ingame. --181.95.157.176 03:15, 5 November 2012 (GMT)Datcoolguy

should I stay or should I go?[edit]

should the orichalcum ingot for the hunt and gather quest be moved to the quest items page?--Thrapple (talk) 22:31, 15 October 2013 (GMT)

It's already there. --Xyzzy Talk 22:50, 15 October 2013 (GMT)

Is Dwemer Scrap Metal Smeltable?[edit]

My smelter's menu shows that Dwemer Scrap Metal is smeltable too (converts into 3 ingots). Is it a bug or USKP's fix? — Unsigned comment by 37.146.166.246 (talk) at 19:58 on 17 February 2014 (GMT)

Should not be possible as far as I can find. The Bent Dwemer Scrap Metal gives three ingots in the base game, though. Is the Unofficial patch the only mod you have installed or have had installed during this particular playthrough? —MortenOSlash (talk) 21:49, 17 February 2014 (GMT)
Just as a belated follow-up for anyone coming across this, it's a USKP fix. Robin Hood  (talk) 21:57, 2 July 2015 (UTC)

Should Transmutable Ore Be Noted?[edit]

I was glancing over the Notes section next to each type of ore and it came to me that there's no mention of being able to obtain either a Gold or Silver ore by Transmuting an Iron ore. On the pages dedicated to Gold or Silver the Transmuting effect is mentioned, but can easily be overlooked by those glancing through the page, or those not familiar with the spell and have not come across the Spell Book. Perhaps in the interest of gamers who don't delve into specific pages a mention of this alternate method of obtaining a Gold or Silver ore should be noted on this page? --Chocoholic (talk) 03:22, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

We actually have a policy stating that information shouldn't be listed in multiple places, since it makes information harder to keep track of when we have to watch it on multiple pages. Since this method of obtaining gold and silver is already noted on the most relevant pages, it wouldn't make sense to add it here as well. Zul do onikaanLaan tinvaak 10:56, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
