It would appear that his level is chosen when you start the quest and is likely the one closest to yours when you first read the book, but above it if possible. This would explain why he and his weapon can be so weak depending on when you first start this and finally enter Folgunthur. Has this bug already been reported? --75.205.188.93 05:30, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

I don't think that's a bug, actually. I think it's just intentionally the way monster/NPC levels are generated. eshetalk 16:01, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
I would argue that it is kind of bugged, assuming that Mikrul should have the blade corresponding to his level. The discussion page for his weapon has some interesting results from the tests of me and Robinhood. He started the quest at level 1, leveled to 37, and got the 2 version instead of the first. How can this be, if the first time he tested at level 1 he teleported right to Mikrul and got the 1st version correctly? something about the logic is off, but your theory did seem sound until I saw his results and mine on my second character. I was over level 40, possibly even level 44 (Mikrul's highest level), and he seemed appropriately tough for being at his highest or perhaps his second highest level, but he only had the level 27-35 version of his blade. And I know his thrall's inventories are being set as soon as you enter the door to zone of Folgunthur where he resides, because I have a save from in front of the big claw door, and every time I load it and charge into his zone I find different loot in the chest, on the table, a different greatsword sitting by the exit in back, and the thrall's have different stuff. Even he has slightly different things in his inventory, besides the second-best version of the blade and the writ and amulet fragment--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 18:25, 8 December 2012 (GMT)
