Under Water?[edit]

Somehow in my game (PC version, 1.3.10), he's in the middle of the water just east of Solitude... He's under the water so I can't talk to him for one of the Winterhold fetch quests (enchanting item)...— Unsigned comment by 129.127.252.5 (talk) at 07:00 on 10 January 2012

Here is an addition from the article - better to keep it here until we can provide an explanation once and for all:
  • Melaran somehow got to the bottom of the lake outside Solitude. He can't talk to you or help you complete quest objectives while under water. (Una has also been mysteriously transported to the lake.)

It happens on X-Box too. I'll keep searching for him at Erikurs house (where he/she should be) and hope the glitch gets fixed.

-(Xbox360) a way to fix this is to go into Erikur's House straight after taking over Solitude in the Stormcloak campaign

I was looking for Erikur to start The Dainty Sload. He was standing in the water outside Solitude and I had to do the whole Whirlwind to find a gap in the Solitude mesh I could fall through thing. When I got to Erikur, Melaran was standing next to him. Aside from standing in the water Erikur looked normal. Melaran, on the other hand, was not wearing his clothes. Not kidding. I was able to talk to both of them as though nothing else was wrong. This was on xbox, on a game with a lot of hours on it. Has me wondering if they're falling through the mesh somewhere or just spawning in the wrong place.

Image problem[edit]

I'll mention it here because the actual file (File:SR-npc-Melaran.jpg) seems fine: I'm having a weird problem, not sure if this is just me, but instead of getting a thumbnail as an intro-image, I get a gray box with:

Error creating thumbnail: convert: unable to open image `/home/www/uesp.net/w/images/3/3a/SR-npc-Melaran.jpg': No such file or directory.
convert: missing an image filename `/home/www/uesp.net/w/images/thumb/3/3a/SR-npc-Melaran.jpg/180px-SR-npc-Melaran

I don't see any problem when I try to edit the page, everything is put in correctly. Does anyone else have this problem? ~ Dwarfmp 21:40, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

Now it seems to work fine... Strange ~ Dwarfmp 23:45, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
EDIT: Oh I see the image itself has been updated, that seems to have fixed it ~ Dwarfmp 23:46, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

"Covets Erikur's Bed" Note[edit]

Does Melaran really "covet" Erikur's bed? Nothing in his dialogue seems to suggest that. If he watches him while he sleeps due to being assigned the wrong sleep package (such as here), then it should go in the bugs section. --AN|L (talk) 13:56, 24 August 2013 (GMT)

Thane dialogue[edit]

Melaran is also Erikur's replacement as thane should Erikur die. If asked about his position at the court - if Erikur is dead but Sybille Stentor still lives - he will remark "I provide my wisdom and insight to the court."'

I'm not really too sure what this note is trying to say, but the gist of it as far as I can figure is that if Melaran replaces Erikur as thane, his dialogue will not change to reflect the replacement. I'm not sure it's particularly notable, however. I try not to let NPCs die, so I'm not exactly an expert on the subject, but do replacement NPCs usually have dialogue indicating that they've taken over the original's functions? In the case of shopkeepers, I thought the replacements just gained the trading option, not new dialogue. In the case of NPC thanes, who don't have any real function anyway, it seems even more unusual to list it. Thoughts? ThuumofReason (talk) 21:49, 24 September 2013 (GMT)

My intention is to point out that he can and will replace Erikur as thane (at least temporarily) in the event of his death. We HAVE done the same for Bryling's potential replacement. As for having no real function, you could say the same for the Jarls' housecarls, but their replacements, should they be exiled, are mentioned as such anyway. As for replacement shopkeepers, some get new dialogue (like Frabbi, Ulfberth, Muiri, etc.) some don't (like Drifa) Vicano (talk) 17:16, 25 September 2013 (GMT)
Oh, okay. I thought you were saying something about his dialogue, I didn't realize you only wanted to note he's a replacement. If that's the case, it's not necessary to list it on this page, since it's already noted on the thane article. ThuumofReason (talk) 17:50, 26 September 2013 (GMT)
