Possibly related to Chillrend?[edit]

Since this is sitting next to Chillrend, I don't think it would be much of a stretch to assume that this note is talking about the sword. — Unsigned comment by 216.15.65.92 (talk) at 21:46 on 21 January 2012

Perhaps, although I would've expected "R" to have received whatever Mercer stole before giving Mercer his cut. Vardis 22:06, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

Any idea who might be R?[edit]

Tried to guess but no clue at all — Unsigned comment by 188.255.17.124 (talk) at 15:42 on 23 February 2012

According to an anonymous editor "R" refers to Legate Rikke, with the Prima Guide cited as the source. I think I have that guide somewhere, I'll have to double-check it myself. FinalEntity (talk) 13:57, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
Just to add to my above comment for reasons Legate Rikke would be unlikely; Rikke is based in Castle Dour, so wouldn't need to rely in rumours ("... what I've heard..."), nor should she refer to the armoury as "their armoury" since she is a Legion Legate, plus the author refers to Mercer "slipping by the guards", one of which would most likely have been Rikke herself, and what would be the use in Rikke hiring Mercer to steal a weapon/armor from the Castle when if she were spotted with the item equiped she would become the main suspect of the theft. It would hardly be the first time the Prima guide was wrong. FinalEntity (talk) 14:04, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
I think "R" is "Reves", an unused NPC that's supposed to be in "The Pursuit" quest, but got cut from the final game. "R" received and paid for "an item" that Mercer stole from Castle Dour's armory. The only item right beside the note and supposed to come from armory in that room can only be Chillrend. Bethesda never put any enemy spawns with paralyze-enchanted weapon in the game (see NPCs to see every enemy types and all possible enchanted weapon they can carry and it's also probably because players complained about scribs from Morrowind and enemies wielding paralyze-enchanted weapon in Oblivion keep hitting and paralyzing players repeatedly until they die without being able to get up), so Bethesda decided to cut Reves who's supposed to wield Chillrend (with paralyze enchantment) from the game and put Chillrend in display case, but forgot to change the note's details, which is why Chillrend is still in display case even though the note said that the item is already paid and received by "R".
