Consolidation[edit]

I received the Misc. Objective "Kill the giant located at Secunda's Shelf" from Valga Vinicia at Dead Man's Drink in Falkreath. I also remember a quest (forgot who the giver was) in Whiterun to kill a giant in a nearby camp to the west.

Since you have to report to the Jarl or his rep to get the bounty, should this category be expanded to include quests from all Holds? Han 18:16, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

Perhaps this needs to made into a redirect to Skyrim:Bounty: Giant, the more general page for giant kills. The Silencer has spokenTalk 18:46, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
In reply to Han, the articles on the site are named according to their name in game files, while what you're referring to is the objective which appears in your quest journal. In this case, it appears both the quests you received were actually the Bounty quest to which TheSilencer linked in his reply. See that link for information regarding that quest. The categories, radiant options, and other information on the page is correct.
TS, a redirect wouldn't be appropriate in this case. They have two separate quest entries in CSlist, and the possible locations for each quest is different. In addition, there are several Thane-related quests which include a prerequisite of completing certain quests for the jarl of that hold, and I believe this is the case with this one. Other 'Bounty' and 'Kill the...' quests seem similar in this manner. ABCface 21:36, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

Quest level[edit]

If this quest has a required level of 22, why does it have various leveled rewards which start at level 1? Vlad the Imperial (talk) 22:45, 9 December 2012 (GMT)

The rewards are generic and apply to a number of quests, most of which don't have required levels. Robin Hoodtalk 23:01, 9 December 2012 (GMT)
But the generic values are just non-sense in this case. I replaced them with a non-generic table. --Alfwyn (talk) 15:13, 20 December 2012 (GMT)

"Not getting removed from journal" theory[edit]

On my game, I recieved the quest from Skald while he was still Jarl of Dawnstar, but completed it after the civil war questline when he was no longer Jarl. (Still did recieve my gold, at least.) I'm wondering if that might cause the problem. Could anyone maybe test this and see? Alarra (talk) 06:26, 23 December 2012 (GMT)

I did, it didnn't remove even WHEN he was Jarl, though I play on 460-Diokno44

Giant?[edit]

Quest ordered me to kill a giant, but quest location pointed at a fox. Quest was completed when I killed it. 85.157.163.24 18:17, 17 January 2013 (GMT)

Brina Merilis?[edit]

Does she really give this quest? I've never received it from her. Normally it's a prerequisite quest for Thane of the Pale when Skald is jarl there, but she will make me Thane without any quests at all (other than the usual help three people). --Morrolan (talk) 21:32, 27 February 2013 (GMT)

Nope, the conditions for the quest giver also require that they be in the Favor153QuestGiverFaction, which she is not. I'll update the page accordingly. — ABCface 02:43, 29 August 2013 (GMT)

Patch fix - moved from article[edit]

Sometimes the quest objective will not be removed from the journal.

*However the patch will also remove the quest from the game.

The bolded entry was added to the article, but it's not clear to me what it's saying. Does this mean that you will be completely unable to do this quest, it will remove it from your list even if you haven't completed it, or something else? --Xyzzy Talk 16:55, 30 November 2013 (GMT)

Quest not given - moved from article[edit]

Sometimes you will not be given the quest, even at the quest' required level (level 22)!

Moving this here because it's pretty vague. What platform was it on? Did you have any mods installed? Were there any other conditions that would prevent getting this quest (hostility with the jarl, having another favor quest active, etc.)? --Xyzzy Talk 03:16, 31 December 2013 (GMT)

Completing Waking Nightmare required to start quest?[edit]

In my game, running Skyrim 1.9 and USKP 2.0.8a, I couldn't ask Skald for work until I had completed the Waking Nightmare quest. There's no chance that another quest was blocking it since I spoke to Skald immediately before starting Waking Nightmare and he did not offer the quest, then I completed Waking Nightmare without doing any other quests and he did offer it. Can anybody confirm/deny that it is a requirement? Kotekzot (talk) 02:40, 17 December 2014 (GMT)

Confirming. Easy to test. Make a character lvl >= 22 and talk to the jarl and the quest is not given. Complete Walking Nightmare (setstage da16 200) and now the quest is offered. Waking Nightmare is a prerequisite. --67.142.170.23 06:43, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
Just to follow up on this, the way it's done in the Creation Kit is a bit unusual, which is probably why it was never spotted before. Technically speaking, the quest will start the first time you enter Dawnstar after hitting level 22 (meaning it probably won't start right away if you hit level 22 while already in Dawnstar). The Jarl's dialogue, however, won't be available until you've completed Waking Nightmare. Since all rewards from this quest are also contingent on having spoken to the Jarl, that effectively makes Waking Nightmare a prerequisite quest. Robin Hood  (talk) 19:37, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
