Other Questgivers[edit]

There is also apparently an option for any member of the Tribal Orcs faction to give this quest, implying that there's some way for the orcs to take control of Falkreath. Since I have no idea whether such an option truly exists in the final version of the game, I've left the orcs out of the quest-givers list. -NepheleTalk 23:20, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

I've done this quest from both ends as well as talked with all the Stronghold chiefs and have never once seen an option about taking Falkreath for the Orcs. I don't believe this was included in the final version. Possibly setting up something for a later DLC? I've seen places where it looks like things were left vague for a reason. Missing leader[edit]

I received the quest to kill the leader of Embershard Mine, which I'd cleared out early in the game (one of the first things I did). There's no one in the mine, but there is a quest marker. The marker behaves as if it's pointing to someone, as if I stand directly where it's pointing it shifts slightly as if I've just nudged someone out of the way. But there's nothing there. Peterguard 23:02, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

How long has it been since you cleared the mine out? If the guys inside haven't respawned, try waiting a week in-game. The arrow is pointing to where the bandit leader is SUPPOSED to be, when he's there. So other than waiting for them to respawn or using the console, there's not a lot else you can do. It's awhile ago now, my, umm, what do you call it, errrm, memory of it isn't too clear. I seem to recall that the fungi and ore veins had respawned, but there were no occupants. I'll try and remember to go back again and see if anyone's there. Peterguard 23:08, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
OK, I was in Riften, so I waited there for 10 days, and went to the mine. The veins had respawned, but no occupants. I returned to Riften, and waited 31 days. Once again, more ore, but no occupants. Oh, I was mistaken about the quest marker moving; checking again, it remains pointing at the same, empty spot. (I play on an Xbox, in case that proves relevant) Peterguard 10:47, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
Hmm...that's peculiar. If he hasn't respawned by now, he probably won't any time soon. And since you can't use the console...completing this particular task might be an issue. ThuumofReason 13:50, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
I don't know if it's connected, but Valtheim Towers doesn't respawn enemies either, nor does the mage respawn at the Ritual Stone. Halted Stream Camp has respawned enemies, though, outside and in. Peterguard 15:08, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
I suspect this is an old-version bug which has since been fixed. I've had this exact situation, being sent to attack the leader of Embershard after it's been cleared, and found an empty mine just with the target sitting in the last room. However Peterguard was writing almost a year ago, and there have been so many updates since, probably one of them fixed the bug he encountered. --Morrolan (talk) 11:01, 10 April 2013 (GMT)

Prerequisite?[edit]

I just arrived in Falkreath and tried talking to the jarl, but he gave me no talk topics that led to the "bounty hunt". Are there any requirements or blockers for the quest not listed on the page? --Freso (talk) 10:05, 22 May 2013 (GMT)

I figured out that it was due to having another Rare Gift quest active and thus Siddgeir wouldn't give me his prerequisite quest. I've updated the page to note that Siddgeir has a prerequisite for this quest. --Freso (talk) 06:42, 19 June 2013 (GMT)
I can confirm that this happens. I had the quest where you need to fetch a copy of "The Mirror" for Aldis active and Siddgeir would not issue me with the 'Rare Gifts' quest. --Matthew_Karlsen 23:25, 8 June 2014 (GMT)

Dengeir[edit]

Does Dengeir actually give this quest? This is the favor quest that Siddgeir requires to purchase Lakeview Manor (with Hearthfire) and start the Thane quest. If Dengeir is Jarl (either because of Season Unending or Rescue from Fort Neugrad) then he's already been befriended, and will let you purchase Lakeview and start the Thane quest automatically. I've never seen him give this quest. --Morrolan (talk) 15:57, 21 August 2013 (GMT)

No, he doesn't. Vicano (talk) 16:20, 21 August 2013 (GMT)
Good enough for me, page updated. --Morrolan (talk) 16:32, 21 August 2013 (GMT)

Stuck objective when initiating quest personally vs. receiving letter[edit]

I started this quest by talking to Siddgeir at level 8, giving him a bottle of Black-Briar mead, and getting the objective to go to Bilegulch Mine to kill the bandit leader. Upon returning to Falkreath and gaining a level beforehand, a courier presents me with the letter to start Build Your Own Home. However, since I already started the quest beforehand and have already killed the leader, the objective "Speak to the Jarl of Falkreath" cannot be completed and remains stuck even after purchasing the land. Ejia (talk) 01:21, 4 November 2013 (GMT)

Never mind, looks like this bug is detailed under Lakeview Manor's page. I guess this is just one of the possible reasons for why it happens, though. Ejia (talk) 20:52, 4 November 2013 (GMT)

Cannot receive this quest.[edit]

I simply cannot receive this quest although I have met both requirements.

I completed his version of rare gifts and gave him his mead at an early level. After that, the only dialog options for him were "How did you become Jarl so young" and "Does your experience make it difficult."

I waited till I was level 9, got the letter, and got the quest to speak to him. The Quest marker points at him but I still get the same two dialogue options.

I haven't done any Dark Brotherhood quests, nor do I have any "Rare Gifts" quests in my log.

Is there any way to proceed without joining the Stormcloaks?219.91.248.86 02:19, 2 June 2014 (GMT)

Rare gifts has no impact here, its this one. Confirm that you do not have one of them active. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 12:49, 4 June 2014 (GMT)
I think Missing In Action might block it if you've started it. I was at stage 50 (Avulstein waiting near Northwatch Keep) and there wasn't a dialogue option. Went and killed all the elves and told Fralia the password, and afterwards I was able to get the bandit quest like normal. 72.178.234.58 22:48, 4 January 2024 (UTC)

Stormcloak bug[edit]

I recieved the letter from the jar Siddgeir but never opened it. During that time i then completed the stormcloak questline, thus changing the jarl. When i became thane he never offered me to buy a house, niether did the girl. I decided to open the letter inviting me to buy a house and it started the quest BUT it ask me to talk to the previous jarl which is now in th blue palace and hate me. So the quest to get the house requires me to talk to someone who doesnt respond when i press E, even when i setrelationsip to 3. I also tried resetting the new jarl but he doesnt give me the quest... Thanks bethesda

No dialogue for kill the bandit leader if no other similar quests active? Solution.[edit]

There are numerous very confused people out there on different forums with difficulty getting Siddgeir to give them the bandit leader quest. However, most threads are old and closed. People searching will only discover discussions going around in circles. The solution to Siddgeir not giving kill the bandit leader quest after a courier delivers a letter to talk to him is: Take a carriage to Falkreath I have tested this on many different characters. For some reason, the carriage ride triggers the bugged to quest add the necessary dialogue.
