Actual Vampires?[edit]

Neither Hern nor Hert seems to actually *be* a vampire -- neither of them dropped Vampire Dust nor looked like they had any of the vampire traits and a lot of attacks from them didn't give me the vampire disease... bug? Intentional misinformation by the Dark Brotherhood/contractor? --NearNihil 00:29, 21 November 2011 (UTC)

I was wondering the same thing after a recent rollback to an earlier save. I remembered Nazir's "intentional vampirism" remarks and was trying to get infected by Hert after murdering her husband, but no amount of patience would yield Sanguinare Vampiris. Hern does have the eyes and teeth so its surely just an oversight or a bug as opposed to misinformation. 68.230.12.67 18:58, 24 November 2011 (UTC)
You can only get the disease from the vampire spell and some vampires don't use it. And all vampires don't drop vampire dust. — Unsigned comment by 81.231.120.17 (talk) at 22:29 on 30 November 2011
When talking to Hern you can see his fangs, but you cannot seem them when Hert talks to you. --Cdevine 03:02, 8 December 2011 (UTC)
They do have garlic hanging in their house. Don't vampires in Elder Scrolls hate garlic? — Unsigned comment by 174.2.73.12 (talk) at 14:56 on 22 December 2011

{od}}Anyone notice the way too much ANIMAL meat in the mill? He may have been a rehabilitated vampire. I kinda feel sorry for the guy. — Unsigned comment by 72.136.58.199 (talk) at 02:04 on 15 December 2011

Under the table in the shed is a human ribcage. They are apparently NOT rehabilitated. Hert also makes a comment about "visitors" that sounded pretty ominous to me. — Unsigned comment by 70.173.238.134 (talk) at 08:22 on 6 February 2012
Definetly vampires, weak against fire and resist heal other. I figured since they hit like nats, I'd do some light armor training and one handed training with my Mage. Sadly I couldn't bring them back from the brink of death to toy with them more :'(. Oh well, there's always Lurbuk ;). Artemis Entreri 17:49, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
They both have the Vampire keyword for their files in CSList. -ABCface 03:45, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
If asked about the isolation of their location, Hert mentions that they can get "everything they need" from the occasional traveler. Sounds ominous! But in any case, they both had red eyes (and later, Vampire Dust) for me, so I'm guessing the Dawnguard add-on addressed the issue of them not appearing as vampires. — Medouneu (talk) 17:52, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

Killing Hert count towards charging the Ebony Blade[edit]

Before you get this quest, chop and sell wood to Hert (female) as part of getting Thane for Falkreath. She becomes friendly. I went back after getting this quest and I was able to kill Hern outside in broad daylight in front of Hert and all she said was "I'll let that go. For now." I then walked up to her and heard her say "It's always a nice day when you're around." Then I killed her with the Ebony Blade and it counted. Kill two birds with one stone (sword).

You can actually kill Hern with Ebony Blade, then reanimate him and kill again and both these kills count for Mephala. --Luke the Hero 21:06, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Contract by Hert[edit]

I one-shot killed Hern, without Hert being involved (or even seeing me, as far as I knew). A couple of (game) days later I was attacked by three thugs, one of whom was carrying a contract from Hert. So you're probably better killing her as well...

Good point but I think that is just one of those radiant encounters that anybody can cause. If it was ordered by his wife the note would be addressed from his wife. Even children can send thugs after the player. RIM 22:17, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
The thugs will only be sent in that particular radiant encounter if there is an ally of the person you killed still alive. However the ally doesn't have to see you committing the murder for the thugs to be sent. --Morrolan (talk) 20:23, 29 January 2013 (GMT)
