Bug and Fire Hazard[edit]

I posted this on the Under Saarthal Discussion page as well. For the quest bug, go there. However, if the player raises the corpse of Jyrik, be warned that when he dies, he explodes in fire again. Just wanted to post this here before I made a page change, as I'm not sure if others have this issue. --Sprocketz 11:38, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Jyrik Gauldurson level?[edit]

The page says this about meeting Jyrik Gauldurson at Saarthal:

"[He] has the same capabilities as the highest-level Draugr you can encounter at your level."

I'm not sure that this is accurate. I did this quest at lvl 30 as a stealthy character. His spells did almost no damage to me, and I killed him with one swipe of my sword. Other Draugr in Saarthal prior to him were actually much harder. Perhaps a bug with my particular playthrough? Cappo 14:05, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

As the article also says he is a magic-casting Draugr, and magic-casting Draugr have different characteristics than melee or archer draugr. --NepheleTalk 16:29, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
Actually, it looks like you're right. Jyrik stops leveling with you when you reach level 21, but the other Draugr level with you until you're level 40, and there's a break-point at 30, which is probably why it was so noticeable for you. I'll change the article accordingly. Robin Hoodtalk 22:46, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

Vanished[edit]

I had Aranea Ienith as a follower when I fought Jyrik Gaudurson in Saarthal. She is quite a powerful mage and she ended up blasting him so hard that his body completely disappeared -- I don't know whether it glitched into the floor or whether it just turned invisible. Anyway, it was impossible to get the amulet fragment from the body and I had to leave Saarthal and come back after several months of game time, by which time the body had reappeared on the floor near the altar. --174.6.51.17 23:13, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

Being pushed off the visible map happens on occasion, so it's not worth noting on its own. It is interesting that the body reappeared later on, though. Robin Hoodtalk 23:16, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
It may have something to do with the fact that Aranea was not on the floor of the chamber but was casting spells at him from above. --174.6.51.17 00:23, 18 March 2012 (UTC)

Bug with shields?[edit]

Hey sorry this wont have a name attached to it, im terrible with wikis, but I got a bug where he constantly had all three elemental shields up at once. Seeing as I was a caster I couldn't damage him at all. Ended up having to use the kill console command to finish because no matter what I tried he was bugged.— Unsigned comment by 155.42.27.19 (talk) at 01:18 on 12 June 2013

Jyrik Gauldurson Killed Himself?[edit]

TLDR: Jyrik Gauldurson may have accidentally killed himself by setting himself on fire with his Flame Form fire elemental shield.

To be honest, I'm not sure what had happened since it had been at a distance and my view had been blocked by a support beam. Tolfdir had started draining power from the Eye of Magnus and so J. Gauldurson had been vulnerable, but then somehow, he was dead and burning up. I seem to recall he had been using his Flame Form, so he should have had 100% Resist Fire and been OK, but it honestly seemed like he had immolated himself with his elemental shield :D.

The other reason for my uncertainty with what had happened is that I think that, my follower, Skyrim:Faendal seemed to have somehow acquired the ability to shoot Fire Arrows after I had commanded him to pick up the Telekinesis Arrow that had appeared for me earlier in the dungeon (Which is a whole other "bug/feature/issue" in and of itself. Just for reference, the arrow that had appeared is the "one arrow" mentioned near the end of first paragraph of Skyrim:Saarthal#Saarthal). But if I had been observing correctly, Faendal had actually not been fighting and so even if his Telekinesis Arrow had morphed into a Fire Arrow, I don't think he had actually been shooting any (additionally, his inventory screen does not actually show that he has any arrows equipped at all, thus adding to the confusion). Anyway, just a fun little tidbit for anyone who wants to try duplicating this.
