Fine price is leveled[edit]

Fine price seems to be leveled or target dependent (unlikely). I killed Spectral Assassin at clvl 43 and the fine was 500 gold. --Moonraker 21:58, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Got this quest from thralls[edit]

I have gotten this quest incorrectly while have Astrid and Gabriella as Thralls after destroying the Dark Brotherhood but I'm not sure what triggers it. The times I have gotten it was in the player house in whiterun while casting the familiars spell that was repeatable but didn't work any where else. The other time was in Mzulft when the characters had been standing around with collision toggled off. Not a major problem on PC but might be annoying for console owners. — Unsigned comment by 87.102.114.247 (talk) at 00:17 on 14 January 2012

Confirmed, I have gotten this quest from Astrid as a thrall. What triggers it is basically any situation where Astrid would normally have a scene-related comment if alive (like seeing a dead body, this triggers the NPC "greet corpse" behavior). Doesn't happen EVERY time, but it happens, and the "crime" you're supposed to be paying for is her own murder. And, if you're like me, the murder of the entire guild that followed. Needless to say, I can't complete it. Hey, I wiped out the DB and use Astrid as a dead thrall, go figure. That she's not only dead but annoyed with me about it is just icing on the cake. 174.28.183.133 15:46, 25 November 2022 (UTC)

How much do you have to attack them to trigger this fine?[edit]

Does it require hitting them more than just once or twice? I often Fus Ro Dah some of the Family each time I visit the Sanctuary and that hasn't triggered the quest. 69.229.7.79 03:14, 5 February 2012 (UTC)

Bound Until Death[edit]

I just did the Bound Until Death quest (a stealthy poisoned arrow to the heart from the dark corner where Gabriella leaves Firiniel's End). I immediatly drank an invisibility potion after firing the arrow and attempted to escape but Veezara interrupted me in the middle of the cortyard where the wedding takes place. As soon as he initiated conversation with me everyone turned hostile and started attacking us. I snuck off through solitudes unguarded back entrance (by the market) leaving Veezara to fend for himself (since he told me he would hold them off while I escaped). When I got back to the sanctuary Astrid called me stupid and this quest initiated. WTF... 71.181.70.79 01:16, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

I've had the same problem and I don't know the solution. I tried reloading the save before killing the bride and redoing it, but it still happens. I just posted to confirm that more than one person has had this glitch happen. EDIT: After searching more for the answer, I found that feeding on a corpse of a target (e.g. with the Ring of Namria equipped) violates the DB rules for some reason. However, the Honor Thy Family quest doesn't start until you try to speak with a DB member. This is what happened in my case; my character completed the contract on Agnis, then fed on her, all before going to Solitude and assassinating Vici. I reloaded a save before completing the Agnis contract, completed it without feeding afterwards, and all was fine from that point on.
I just created a "Bugs" section and included this detail about feeding on contracted kills. I can't imagine a reason that this would be intentional on Bethesda's part.--Dukesilver (talk) 16:18, 17 December 2012 (GMT)
Confirmed on feeding as a vampire. Why does Babette get all the good food? :( -Deltahost (talk) 22:56, 24 February 2013 (GMT)
It's not so much as feeding as just killing a contract target while having Bound until Death. I had Agnis killed her went back to sanctuary and gained this quest. — Unsigned comment by 69.247.121.60 (talk) at 15:32 on 5 August 2013
It has a lot to do with feeding actually. As a vamp, I use to feed on my sleeping targets before killing them (or I just kill them by feeding twice or until they die -Better Vampires mod-) and keep getting the stupid pay-the-fine thing. It's ridiculous. Took me forever to find out what was going on. --Iconoclasta (talk) 07:57, 20 August 2013 (GMT)

I got the quest for no reason...[edit]

So I went to Fort Greymore to kill this Agnis woman. I did what I was told and killed her. I did accidentally summoned Lechance, just an added detail. I rode Shadowmere to the Sanctuary (with Lechance following behind me). And please note that I did not hit him or any DB member or Shadowmere. And this is after I killed the Gourmet and not reported in with Festus yet. And, as I am supposed to be in character, I did slash Gourmet until there was a bit of blood on his bed. And I did kill Agnis without initiating conversation with her. So I honestly don't know what caused it. I followed the guidelines (unless there is a rule about acting like a psychopathic killer). Could someone please tell me what I went wrong here or if this is a bug???? — Unsigned comment by AThiefWithNordicBeauty (talkcontribs) at 01:34 on 12 December 2013‎

Random Encounter with Babette[edit]

I was sneaking along in the western, rockier parts of Skyrim and picked off three Stormcloak soldiers with my bow. I've completed the whole quest line without any problems or hitches and as I went to go loot the corpses it said my sneak increased, so I rolled further down the road until I saw a girl doing the scripted searching motion to a dead body and I wondered if it was some cool random encounter with a dead mother or something but when I got closer it was Babette (sorry if I mispelled that). I went out of sneak and upon noticing me she said, "Dishonor the family and you dis-" (at that point I clicked on her to talk but you probably know the rest) She said "Fancy seeing you here" and explained that the dead body was one she had just fed from. Because I hadn't let her finish, as soon as I engaged her it gave me the quest and said to go pay a fine to Nazir (again, sorry if I mispelled that >.<) I was confused, so after I finished the quest I was on, I went over to the Dawnstar Sanctuary and spoke to Nazir- I had to pay a fine of 300 gold, which confused me even more because online it says the fine is usually 500. I play on the XBox By ThE wAy. — Unsigned comment by 73.213.231.92 (talk) at 20:38 on 21 June 2015‎

There's a note (though it should really be listed as a bug) that fully upgrading the sanctuary can sometimes trigger the quest. Babette can't even be harmed so you didn't accidentally hit her to cause the fine. The fine is 300 after completing Hail Sithis (discount for being leader). The Babette scene is a random encounter. Destroying the Dark Brotherhood[edit]

I killed everyone in the sanctuary and then received the quest Honor Thy Family in my quest log, But since Nazir is dead i cant do anything about it. — Unsigned comment by 100.37.19.136 (talk)

Ring of Namira[edit]

So I just noticed the bug mentioning the Ring of Namira potentially triggering this, however, I have played an assassin character that had the ring and didn't encounter this so I'm wondering if anyone can confirm that it definitely happens, and/or how/why it happens.

I'm just wondering if perhaps whoever originally discovered this bug might have fed upon Skyrim:Maluril, in which case the actual bug would be Maluril's erroneously being in the Dark Brotherhood faction, thus Lucien LeChance witnessing the player feed could trigger this quest as a result. If this were the case it would mean the Ring of Namira wasn't the cause of the bug, and so isn't something to be wary of in general. -- Haravikk (talk) 20:27, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

The ring is the only way to encounter the bug as it is written, as it requires you to cannibalize a contract victim (and the OP fed on Agnis who has the same problem as Maluril). The posts above actually confirm that it is because of the faction situation, however, while only a few have it from the start of the game, all the "Contract" victims are placed into the faction at the start of their quests and feeding on them as a vampire, cannibal, and probably even as a werewolf will cause problems. In short it is a problem to be wary of, just don't tamper with the bodies of your DB victims. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 21:18, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
Huh, so Maluril just happens to already be in that faction then. Any idea why they're placed into that faction specifically? It seems very intentional yet bewildering for a bug, but then I suppose that's true of a lot of them =D -- Haravikk (talk) 22:35, 5 February 2018 (UTC)
It unlocks the dialogue when you approach them and can warn them of their impending doom, or stare at them silently. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 01:46, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
