Bug[edit]
A bug I experienced on 360: She went into her room, I closed the door and killed her while she was sitting in her chair. The body appeared dead in the middle of the main room immediately. — Unsigned comment by 71.202.80.84 (talk) at 04:02 on 30 November 2011
- I figured I should say, when I first killed her (in the same way, I believe) the same thing happened. So, this is not a one-of-a-kind bug.118.93.248.161 11:24, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
- I did the exact same thing (closed the door, killed her in her chair, had the body disappear and reappear). I assume it's so that the children (and Constance) can find the body right away. Zonohedron (talk) 01:52, 25 January 2014 (GMT)
kid for sale?[edit]
While I was...biding my time...I listened to Grelod and Constance and the Children.
What I heard was unbelievable.
Grelod told Constance...and I'm paraphrasing but I'll be as accurate as I can be...That "we haven't had an adoption in months. We need to do a better job of getting the word out. We can't keep these kids forever.
I probably heard some parts wrong...but I am 100% positive that Grelod expressed sentiments about putting the kids up for "sale".
TOTALLY DIFFERENT IMPRESSION when she first lectures the children that nobody wants them and that they will never leave until they are of age.
It's freaking hilarious cuz...Constance keeps telling me that I can't adopt any of the kids.
Makes me wonder why I'm even gonna killing Grelod....except that I need to assassinate the D B. :) — Unsigned comment by Theindividual (talk • contribs) at 10:42 on 3 April 2012
- The exact quote is "We haven't had an adoption in months. At this rate, we'll be stuck with these brats forever. We need to get the word out. A sale, if need be." She has an awful lot of cruel dialogue, actually. I'll see if I can add them all to her page later today. --Krusty 11:53, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
Can't Kill Grelod[edit]
I'm having a bug where she is essential, can't be killed, and thus the quest can't proceed. — Unsigned comment by 94.60.42.18 (talk) at 12:28 on 8 January 2013
- Hi. Did you interact with Grelod before starting the quest, or enter the location? At what point in the quest did you notice the problem? Which platform are you using (PC/PS3/Xbox)? Which version (lower-left corner of the Jounal menu)? Are you using any mods? Can you provide any additional details that may possibly be related? Thanks.— Unsigned comment by JR (talk • contribs) at 15:30 on 8 January 2013 (GMT)

- Uninstall "when vampires attack.esp" The "When Vampires Attack" mod from the nexus causes this. — Unsigned comment by 67.7.91.162 (talk) at 05:28 on 28 November 2013
- When Vampires attack does not modify anything regarding Grelod. I killed her just fine with that mod active. — Unsigned comment by 5.28.101.22 (talk) at 02:43 on 2 May 2014

- Incorrect. I had the Grelod is essential problem. Followed the above advice and unistalled "When Vampires Attack" - it worked IMMEDIATELY and Grelod is now dead— Unsigned comment by 81.151.45.177 (talk) at 09:01 on 11 May 2014

Grelod is still essential![edit]
Im on PC. I have a number of mods installed not including when vampires attack. I did try to kill her before the "lost innocense" quest. Anything I just said useful for figuring out why this old lady won't die? I even tried setting her essential to 0 but she still is invinsible. Please help. — Unsigned comment by 108.71.77.6 (talk) at 06:18 on 25 October 2015
- You are not supposed to kill her before that quest as it would possibly make dark brotherhood unjoinable Ciberzombie (talk) 16:17, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
- That's not true at all, you can kill her at any point and it has no negative effects at all. This has been anticipated by the inclusion of a line written for that specific possibility. She is not unkillable without mod interference, she is not essential at any point. This is especially important as adoption is only available once she is dead, allowing her to be killed without starting the Dark Brotherhood questline, but not preventing you from starting it later. - Didn't knew that. So what happens during quest if you kill her before quest? edit: nevermind Ciberzombie (talk) 18:18, 19 October 2017 (UTC)

Private Letter to Grelod[edit]
Maven's letter to Grelod seems to be pertinent. It certainly suggests that Maven is on board with the abuse of the children. Yet there is no way for me to add the letter to the wiki as a separate document, and when I added it to the Grelod page, someone decided to delete it without so much as an explanation! What gives? Gehayi (talk) 20:51, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
- There was an explanation given in the edit summary ("this is not an official text"). The letter must have been added by an unoffical mod, the text can not be found in the game data of the original game. --Alfwyn (talk) 21:31, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

- I found the mod adding that letter -the text can be found inside the goodbrother.esp file included in the mod. --Alfwyn (talk) 21:57, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
