bug?[edit]

encountered a Frightened Woman, near the center of Whiterun, who talked about bandits or similar at a location called Mistwatch, then ran off in the direction of Whiterun Hold, but was promptly killed by a saber-tooth cat before I could verify the information. She claimed to have marked the location on my map ... but no such mark was indicated. bug? — Unsigned comment by 58.164.55.85 (talk) at 13:40 on 6 December 2011

Permanent resident of Battle-born farm[edit]

After encountering her a bit north of Whiterun, between the Battle-born farm area, and the nearby guard tower, she ran off, as expected. Now she is permanently living/working on the Battle-born farm. She stays outside on the farm working at the wood-chopping or tanning stations 24 hours a day(meaning she doesn't go indoors or leave the farmstead at all). So, I guess if she survives, she'll settle in at the nearest safe spot. — Unsigned comment by 75.199.117.175 (talk) at 21:18 on 10 December 2011

She seems to live in Kynesgrove in my game now. Might be a random safe spot indeed. --Alfwyn 14:57, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
I've just bumped into her apparently now living at Darkwater Crossing after resurrecting her corpse somewhere north-east of Ivarstead. She seems happy enough sitting there eating their provisions. :) --Christine 13:10, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

Moved from article[edit]

moved all of this here, until we can get a proper explanation and a related quest.

A confirmed encounter with this character was when she appeared upon exiting Rannveig's Fast after completing the quest to kill Sild the Warlock. It is worth noting that after the player tells her that there is a nearby area where she can go to, she runs off (this is the only option... you don't actually point a location out to her, it's just the only dialogue option... confirmed on PC). It has been confirmed that she can die, and she has been found dead further down the way in the direction that she runs off to (killed by wolves or a saber cat, etc.). It appears for now that her only purpose is to provide the player with the location of Mistwatch (known for its kidnapping) if the player has not already found that location. UPDATE: While playing further in the same game timeline (as in not starting a new game after the previous instance of the frightened woman had died), another frightened woman appeared after exiting a cave upon completing another miscellaneous quest. The second appearance of the frightened woman looked exactly the same as the first, and she also provided the same exact dialogue as the first, and ran off in the same exact fashion as the first. The notice that a map marker for Mistwatch appeared even though it was already marked on the player's map. There seems to be multiple instances of this character, and it still stands that her only known purpose (at least for now) is to provide the location of Mistwatch even if the player has already found it.

Another sighting: Mill[edit]

I just met Frightened Woman as a VAMPIRE during the Dark Brotherhood questline where you have to kill Hert and Hern in a contract. She was standing on the bridge near the mill where Hert is standing. — Unsigned comment by 72.136.58.199 (talk) at 01:58 on 15 December 2011

another sighting: Brood Cavern[edit]

I just bumped into the frightened woman after exiting Brood Cavern, on the quest for the fine cut void salts for Wayfinder. She ran away and as described above and was promptly killed by a bear. — Unsigned comment by 2.125.148.22 (talk) at 11:17 on 7 February 2012

Another sighting of her - she shares the same random encounter spawing points with other NPCs.[edit]

In my game she appeared between the city of Winterhold (where the Mages College is) and the excavation site of Saarthal but she was already dead when I arrived here, and 2 mages, a Fire Mage and a Frost Mage fighting each other. It seems she was caught in crossfires.

I close my game and reload from the last save in a hope I can arrive in time and protect her. This time, no Mages and no Frightened Woman spawned in that spot. Instead, I found a friendly NPC who is called Aspiring Mage: Aspiring Mage He was trying to reanimate a dead wolf placed in front of him, and upon talking to him I am given 3 ways to convince him give me a very good Animate Dead Staff.

It seems that the Frightened Woman and the Aspiring Mage are sharing the same random encounter spawing points. --85.75.135.209 22:47, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
As near as I can tell, there are potentially up to 146 points where the Frightened Woman can spawn, and as the anonymous contributor above mentions, numerous other World Events share these same spawn points. Robin Hoodtalk 04:53, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

Another one[edit]

Just to add that I met one near Riften, and, after telling her a nearby town, she ran pass it, pass the stable, pass the farm, stopped after enemy encounter (killed by my follower), and just stood there. 71.132.207.82 15:37, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Um...[edit]

I just met her, but it was right outside of Mistwatch. When she ran off after I spoke with her, she went straight into the place and was killed by the bandits! — Unsigned comment by 76.218.24.128 (talk) at 22:28 on 8 May 2012

When I found her she was dead, with only a roughspun tunic and footwraps, no lockpick or gold. — Unsigned comment by 96.29.182.221 (talk) at 22:20 on 29 October 2012‎

rare[edit]

after about 10,000 hours of playing skyrim in 20 different games, i met her with a level 4 character near Whiterun. amazing. — Unsigned comment by 218.5.6.96 (talk) at 06:29 on 19 January 2013

Second play-through, first time finding this one[edit]

I know this isn't really necessary, but I met her reanimated corpse along with a dead highwayman and an extra shield and weapons hinting at one or two bandits with missing bodies, two sets of death hounds, and multiple vampires. These all apparently decided to spawn east of Dawnstar next to each other. It was quite a scene when I found it. Anyways, I find it odd that at least 4 different random encounters occured in the same area at the same time. I didn't think that was possible.--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 04:27, 4 February 2013 (GMT)

respawning?[edit]

I was wandering around and aparently through my exploring she spawned at some point, and then got killed by wolves before I even knew she existed. is that it? or does she come back if I never found mistywach and never spoke to her? — Unsigned comment by 24.38.217.116 (talk) at 04:50 on 22 June 2013

It's an odd one, she is set to respawn, but the quest for her to appear only runs once. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 12:06, 22 June 2013 (GMT)

dead[edit]

was exploring over mountains, and alter went through the region on the roads. and apparently she died before I even knew she had spawned(probably on my way to iverstead, because I found her in the road on my way back) does she ever respawn or is she permanently dead on that save?. — Unsigned comment by 24.38.217.116 (talk) at 01:26 on 26 June 2013‎

According to the article, she will eventually respawn. Forfeit (talk) 01:29, 26 June 2013 (GMT)
Though looking at the discussion just above this one, she may not respawn after all. Forfeit (talk) 01:31, 26 June 2013 (GMT)

Two near-identical encounters[edit]

I've encountered her twice now with two different characters, both times while near the Brinehammer. Saved right after finding her, and decided to follow her and see where she runs to after completing her dialogue, saving often to keep her alive (which was FRUSTRATING and I do not recommend!). She took different routes with it on both save files, but she ran past obvious safe points like Dawnstar and Nightgate Inn. Both times she ran ALL THE WAY to Anga's Mill, went straight for an wood choppers axe, and now perpetually chops wood without leaving her station. — Unsigned comment by 96.51.72.109 (talk) at 20:20 on 5 May 2014 (GMT)

Long long way she traveled..[edit]

In my case, I met her near Saarthal. As I followed her, we run run run and run: Saarthal -> Winterhold -> Whistling Mine -> Fort Kastav -> Anga's Mill -> Mixwater Mill -> Valtheim Towers -> Battle-Born Farm -> Loreius Farm (Finally) Did not stop at nearest town or farm, seem that she just appear randomly and have destination.. Randomly.

Suggest to change from: "If she isn't killed on the way to the nearest town" to: "If she isn't killed on the way to randomly destination farm" — Unsigned comment by 1.163.108.145 (talk) at 16:23 on 17 March 2015 (GMT)

Did you observe this before or after speaking to her? -- SarthesArai Talk 16:37, 17 March 2015 (GMT)

Interrupted[edit]

I was doing Thane stuff for Dawnstar. Bought the hall. Finished the small house. Assigned my housecarl to the house. I went over the the Corundum Ore vein. She came up and started dialogue while I was mining. Something about my finishing mining interrupted her.

She stopped offering new dialogue. She followed me around, but would not talk to me. She started using random voice acting I had never heard before that was unrelated to anything.

I could not get her to enter the house, which suggests she was not "following".

Is there a way to reset her? 206.188.60.17 00:52, 14 August 2019 (UTC)

update - reloaded and her dialogue reset. She then ran off toward Shimmermist Cave and was killed by a Saber Cat
