Killing Etienne[edit]

Does anyone know what happens long-term if you do this? I attacked him once with a Thieves Guild member, and got a message saying that I'd attacked a fellow members of the Thieves Guild, so I went back to a previous save and ignored him. You can kill him, I did it on my current playthrough, but as far as I can tell it does not seem to affect anything but my current character isn't joining the Thieves Guild so I'm not sure if he's been resurrected and is still hanging around the cistern or not. --Morrolan (talk) 23:31, 16 December 2012 (GMT)

Possible Noteworthy Bug[edit]

I have Hearthfire installed and was wandering from my house to the Wreck of the Icerunner when unexpectedly and completely randomly this BASTARD (Etienne Rarnis) comes out of NOWHERE as I'm trodding along my horse. I thought it was a randomly generated thief by the garb and perhaps that he was trying to catch up to me to spam me with a forced robbery dialogue. Instead I hear, "You didn't have to help me...so...thanks." This is after finishing the Diplomatic Immunity quest where I rescue both him and Malborn, but before returning to Delpine in Riverwood. He followed me and then ran to the bow of the ship on the wreck. It was weird. He's just standing there now. You can kill him, but it counts as a murder and he has no loot. It obviously makes no sense because he was buck nekkid when I rescued him and where did he have the time to run back to Riften to change and then somehow catch up to me halfway between my homestead and the wreck. So far he hasn't really moved from that spot and I'm unsure what caused this. --Archmage Darium — Unsigned comment by 72.91.149.47 (talk) at 02:16 on 24 April 2013 (GMT) with addition/correction done to the contribution — Unsigned comment by 72.91.149.47 (talk) at 00:38 on 27 April 2013 (GMT)

His clothes spawn on his character. He's not wearing them when you first meet him in the Thalmor basement, but as soon as he becomes a Real NPC he equips them. It's weird how you met him by the Icerunner, maybe he was in the process of walking back to Riften? NPCs take really weird routes sometimes. --Morrolan (talk) 19:41, 15 July 2013 (GMT)

I'm not sure, since I'm unfamiliar with using console commands, but you could try the setrelationshiprank command. — ABCface 03:05, 26 August 2013 (GMT)

Stuck walking backwards or sideways[edit]

I have completed Diplomatic Immunity (quite some quests ago), but don't remember even seeing him there, so I am not sure if I rescued him or not...I do remember seeing Maborn getting killed when I went around a corner to see what the random scuffle was...

Etienne is always in the Cistern, and says the same thing to me when I first approach; "Haven't you caused enough trouble already?". After that, clicking on him just gets "need something?". For the last few times I've been down there, he walks backwards everywhere he goes. Well, not quite...sometimes he walks sideways to the spot in front of the cupboard and then backwards, where he stays moonwalking in place. Usually I see him standing in the center over the water, and he walks backwards to the spot in front of the cupboard to moonwalk in place. I don't think I have any upcoming quests with him, so it doesn't bother me any, it's just weird.

never saw him go[edit]

i rescued him but I never saw him go into the trap door because I had to save malborn from some thalmor. How did he get out he didn't even have a key. Then somehow he managed to survive the frost troll (unlike Malborn 😢 ) even without my help. — Unsigned comment by 70.113.62.94 (talk) on 23:45 UTC 8 Feb 2017
