Quest Stuck[edit]

I have the escaped criminal quest stuck as finished. This was the second time I was doing the quest and I already found the criminal I was supposed to kill this time, I took them out but the quest didn't update it just moved from active to finished but still stuck on the "find the criminal wandering xxxx" stage. I tried using the console command 'setstage CR07 20' (and then 200 and 10) but it did nothing and the quest remains open. Everyone at the companion's guild requires me to finish this quest before I can take another one and you can't quit the quest. It is seeming impossible now. Anyone know a way to find out quest IDs perhaps since this is the second time I've taken the quest 'CR07' isn't correct anymore. I tried using 'help escaped 0' to search for it but it only turned up escape criminals to spawn (which I spawned and then killed to no avail so I reloaded an older save). All my auto saves were taken up while I was looking for the criminal so I really can't go back before I took the quest now so if anyone could help I'd be thankful. — Unsigned comment by 97.96.58.98 (talk) at 13:25 on November 14, 2011

EDIT:I've ended up with a similar problem in that I never got to kill the escaped criminal, but the mission is showing in the completed list and speaking to vilkas only gives the complete the job dialog.Doomsday 17:00, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

How to fix not being able to finish the quest[edit]

Using the console to setstage cr07 or completequest cr07 does not work. However, if you use the console to complete a DIFFERENT Companion Radiant Quest using setstage, the Circle members will offer you work again. For example, I completed the animal extermination quest cr01 using the following commands:

1. setstage cr01 10
2. setstage cr01 20
3. setstage cr01 100

Step 1 begins the quest, step 2 performs the quest task, and step 3 completes the quest. The Circle will now offer you quests again.

EDIT: On further experimentation, it appears that Farkas and Vilkas will no longer offer work after this 'fix'. Aela will continue to offer animal extermination quests. Farkas and Vilkas only offer the work dialogue options if you are on a job for Aela, and will tell you to finish her job up first. — Unsigned comment by Zexel (talkcontribs) at 01:36 on December 3, 2011

*confirmed* seems if you catch this bug your boned for the companion radiant quests except for Aela's (if above fix is applied) *shrug* — Unsigned comment by 97.123.188.56 (talk) at 03:27 on 21 February 2012
In some instances this 'fix' does absolutely nothing. My guess, Clairvoyance bugs when the target is behind a locked door and the marker system bugs when there are X degrees of separation between a given map and the target map. Basically means that your target is at least two portals away(two travel doors) and behind a locked door. This makes all location efforts moot. I tried waiting 2 weeks 24 hours at a time for the target to move to a non-bugged location. This bug in the radiant quest system needs attention. — Unsigned comment by 174.106.74.87 (talk) at 22:19 on December 24, 2011
EDIT: Seems like this is not working if you haven't done companion quests? The setstage cr01 commands don't seems to work for me. — Unsigned comment by 67.167.225.198 (talk) at 20:59 on January 3, 2012

Per this page: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Escaped_Criminal

...if you use the setstage cr01 10/20/100 command levels, and *then* request a quest from Aela, and *then* complete it, it resets Farkas and Vilkas and you're good to go.

> Another edit:
> I've successfully fixed a bugged CR07 mission which was even moved to the completed section in the journal by using:
> 1. setstage CR03 10
> 2. setstage CR03 20
> 3. setstage CR03 100
> Worked on Skyrim version 1.9.29.0.8 with USP 1.3.1a and Vilkas was offering missions again.

Repeatable?[edit]

This quest and all the others you pick up from the Companions. I've done them all like a hundred times after completing the main Companions quest line involving the Silver Hand. I kept waiting for them to dry up, but they never do. So do these quests just keep being available forever to give you something to do with the companions once the Silver Hand quests are done, or am I experiencing some kind of bug? Also, Skjor is wandering around the Companion's hall again, when he shouldn't be there. Any feedback would be lovely.

EDIT: I just did some more digging and found that these "radiant quests" are indeed endless and meant to give an endless number of quests for the player to do. Hope that saves some people with the same question some time. I would still like some feedback on Skjor, though. Mole126 22:49, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Not solution so far ?[edit]

So for the second time I get this mission (first one was in Whiterun and working fine) I got to find him/her in the Reach.

Map marker never showed and clairvoyance is not working for that quest.

I tried to do as advised here and there setstage cr01 and cr02 to 10, 20, 100 but this does not help, mission is always there in log and companion leaders do not give me new quests.

I tried to setstage on cr07 and it does not work at all changing the stage.

I wonder if this is due to the fact that the mission following that one is supposed to be done in between main companion's questline (Second Wave).

I finished companions' main quest so according to Official Guide, I'm not sure I can get the radiant quests obtainable during main quest's Second Wave. I know that I didn't do much of the radiant quests during companions main quest. In fact I never did first wave before ending companions' main quest.

Thing is I have done radiant quests from Vilkas/Aela/Farkas during Second Wave and maybe also Final Wave. So maybe the quests I would get now would only be Initial Stage quests anyway.

Avoid entering Whiterun[edit]

Looks like the quest marker disappears when I quick travel to Whiterun, so I was able to progress using console commands to teleport to Vilkas directly right after killing the Criminal

movetoqt CR07

Can confirm (not OP), never enter Whiterun (not only the city, but also the areas around the city) after accepting the quest. If you load the game after accepting the quest, and you are still in or around Whiterun, the quest will bug out as well. Accept the quest, fasttravel away from Whiterun, then teleport directly to Vilkas.

Completing the quest if the target doesn't appear or can't be found[edit]

The criminal didn't appear for me on this quest, despite searching the entire area around the quest marker (near Kynesgrove). If this happens to you, it can be fixed in the console like so:

  1. Enter the command sqv cr07.
  2. After entering the above, look for an line beginning with REF 'Criminal' (should be near the bottom of the console output, with all the other aliases). You should see a form ID starting with FF e.g. for me it was REF 'Criminal'->"(FF001FCE). You may need to use the pageup and pagedown keys to navigate the output.
  3. Enter the command prid FF001FCE (using the ID you found in step 2).
  4. Enter the command moveto player. This will move the target to your current position.
  5. Kill the target and the quest should advance normally.

You can also enter player.moveto FF001FCE (using the ID you found in step 2) to teleport yourself to the criminal's location. In my case, the target had spawned inside / beneath the rock face just above the mine entrance in Kynesgrove. This is why I couldn't find him normally!

I've tested this a few times, and it doesn't seem to break any of the other companion quests.
