Question[edit]

Can anyone shed any light on this? DiamondKnight19 15:15, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

It is strange, but it seems to be related to certain Thieve Guild quests. There are four misc items having this name, with the internal ID's of TGRGeneralValueItem, TGRFOValueItem, TGCrownValueItem and TGTQ03ValueIte. They look like a chest, but behave like a standard item. They can be often found under the floor of shops (using tcl on the console of a PC). Looking at the game data, individual item references appear in the XLKR field (called "Linked Ref" in the CK) of objects like business ledgers or strongboxes. --Alfwyn 16:19, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Consequences?[edit]

Just curious if anyone has tried keeping one of these items for a length of time? The page recommends selling it back or reloading but does not give consequences for keeping it. I'm going to do some experimenting to see what happens but, I am somewhat limited being on Xbox. Beez 03:18, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

"Do Not Delete" item is not affected by gravity. In fact, it doesn't seem to be affected by any physics as casting spells at it, hitting it with weapons, and attempting to "grab" it does nothing. Spells leave hit tokens but otherwise cause no movement of the item. Once dropped, it fades into existence and one can jump up on top of it, perhaps to reach otherwise unreachable areas? I've been carrying all 4 around for awhile with no obvious effects--Pseudoname (talk) 15:49, 10 October 2013 (GMT)
I just bought one of these from Arcadia. While using her alchemy lab late at night to mix up some stuff she approached me, feeling that she was going to give me the "you need to leave" treatment I engaged her to sell off some of the potions I had made and there it was. I would like to know if this is going to be a problem because I made a save before and after obtaining it and don't want to have to go back in time real far if it's an issue, otherwise I'm keeping it in a chest in my house. )474(4V57 23.29.221.125 23:42, 13 October 2013 (GMT)
Until someone actually comes along and does some actual testing as to what effects they have its best to play it safe and return it. There's plenty of people saying "it didn't break my game" but they haven't tested for any underlying effects, they're just going by what they see, which is not something I'd trust for something that has the potential for breaking a game. If more people who have encountered this item can report some things we might be able gain some insight. For example where did you get it from and under what conditions. I reported my experience above, having suspected it had something to do with entering the vendors inventory while trespassing. I haven't noticed any change in Arcadia's available gold other than maybe it being at 500 every time I see her. Users Beez and Pseudoname have determined it's 'paintbrushness' and that in can be carried around for some amount of time with no obvious deleterious effects. I on the other hand have been keeping mine in a chest in my house also with no noticeable effects. If this does turn out to be a problem I will have to go back in time quite a bit and that will suck. l)474(4V57 23.29.221.249 15:51, 15 October 2013 (GMT)

Just did some researching on this. Most people who purchased the box did so from Arcadia it seems. There is a lot of mention of it causing problems in your game ie. crashing and other unexplained problems though I didn't find any references to this actually occurring to anyone. Also I found people claiming this is not the case as nothing has happened. Some people assert that the box holds the vendors inventory or the total vendor gold, however this seems unlikely as that's what the vendor chests are for and this box is simply an item with no other obvious data except for it's value, weight, ID, and the fact that it's represented as a chest. Perhaps this has to do with other NPC functions like quest items and rewards? It's various ID's suggest this. It can also be found in cells where no vending takes place. One person stated that this was something the developers forgot to delete, this seems to be the most unlikely given it's name. Apparently if you leave the box in your home it will subsequently disappear while you are gone ie. respawn event. l)474(4V57 23.29.221.123 17:19, 15 October 2013 (GMT)

The box is still in the chest in my house. Still no obvious problems however I have yet to see the general assortment of goods lying around Arcadia's shop respawn. I guess what needs to be determined here is..
1. What function, if any, does the DND (Do not delete) serve in game.
2. Under what conditions, if any, is it caused to be in the vendors inventory for sale.
3. Are there any effects related to taking or purchasing the DND that can cause a change in your game; good, bad or disastrous.
I haven't been able to find much more information on other wiki's and forums beyond speculation, conjecture and the many different ways of acquiring and exploiting them. l)474(4U57 23.29.221.248 17:14, 20 October 2013 (GMT)
It occurs to me that the merchant perk is probably involved in the DND being in their inventories. It also occurs to me that all of this would be very hard to verify without divine intervention of some kind, i.e. someone from Bethesda giving us a heads up, or at least someone capable of reverse engineering or decompiling. l)474(4V57 23.29.221.245 00:36, 24 October 2013 (GMT)
Still no obvious problems experienced, now carrying DND around in my inventory. |)474(4V57 23.29.221.123 02:53, 7 January 2014 (GMT)
(PS3 user) If it helps, I found the first DND at Arcadia's; I was trespassing (on the Thieves Guild radiant numbers job) and had looted her strongbox as well the other miscellaneous containers, including the chest and barrels behind the master locked door under the stairs. Arcadia herself was sleeping, but was still talking, oddly enough, and was using her usual business lines, (i.e., "feel free to browse" etcetera) instead of "you shouldn't be here." This might have been due to the fact that it was almost 8am. (I arrived at approximately 7 and had to pick the lock to enter her shop's zone) She is a "friendly" as I had already done her quest and was taking the reagents from her counters and shelves when she woke up and came down stairs. She never gave me the trespassing warning so I opened her barter menu to buy all her reagents and this is when I found the DND. If this info is useless clutter feel free to delete it.

On the Xbox 360 I've come across my first instance of this in Ulfberth War-Bear's inventory at Warmaiden's in Whiterun. On sale for 307 gold, it appears in his inventory as a chest. I wasn't trespassing at the time, although it was almost closing time (7.58 pm). I rescued him recently for a Companions radiant quest, if that has any bearing? Just thought it worth mentioning as most ppl seem to have only seen it with Arcadia. I bought it anyway (curiosity killed the cat) and will see what happens. Ragged Claw (talk) 21:32, 11 April 2014 (GMT)
For what it's worth, I got mine from Warmaiden's as well, but from his wife outside the shop. Presumably it's the same one, but maybe not. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 03:13, 12 April 2014 (GMT)
I bought mine from Belethor--I entered his shop about 7:58-59 and there it was in his inventory. Figured I'd hang on to it in case I need an extra step to get to something. I haven't waited 10 days yet to see if his shop respawns though, but no issues otherwise.--149.160.118.87 22:43, 2 July 2017 (UTC)

Do Not Delete[edit]

Eh. for once the ESW has more info on something than here.

so. Definition of a Do not Delete box

"Do Not Delete" is a scripted placeholder left in-game by developers to represent the total gold-value merchants can hold. Its presence explains why gold can be Pickpocketed from Merchants, without their total gold value depleting.

Oh, and they are absolutely epic for getting places you aren't supposed to get. Or at least. that's what ESW says. I just know they be fun to jump on. And are absolutely useful for getting to some of the merchant chests.76.198.105.181 01:13, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

So, one could use the command console to duplicate lots of these (ID 000d15b0) and build a stairway to heaven? Kalevala (talk) 06:33, 14 September 2012 (GMT)
Sounds like the paintbrushes in Oblivion, only harder to come by :p MrJLJ (talk) 01:09, 17 September 2013 (GMT)
This info is mostly guesswork based off a forum thread, no testing was done either, its just hearsay. There is no evidence that this is factual. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 00:16, 14 October 2013 (GMT)
A good way to test that function of the DND might be deleting it (after saving of course) via the console and then bartering with the merchant while paying close attention to their gold (and saving/reloading to ensure that effects/lack thereof are permanent). If this is the real function, then maybe buying much of a merchant's goods will not increase the gold, or they will have no gold at all for bartering. However, since some have apparently found them in different cells from merchant chests, I doubt this is their only purpose, and (as Silence is Golden advised) would not risk a profile for the sake of testing it (particularly since I only have Skyrim on the Xbox).--Jnutter819hi 06:24, 24 January 2014 (GMT)

I Thought That They Were Put In By A Mod Before I Found This Article![edit]

Hi! Since I thought that they had something to do with a mod that allows one to have mobile storage units, that are NOT called, "Bag of Holding", the first time I saw them, I bought each one as I found them. With the intent to use them as storage containers in places where it wasn't usually safe for long term storage, due to cells respawning. But I never made it far enough in a game to use them that way.

But for as long as I had them, I had no problems with them. But after reading this talk page, I'm curious as to what might happen should I try to use one or more of them.

Thanks for everyone else's input prior to my addition. Leo Star Dragon 1 (talk) 10:16, 22 May 2014 (GMT)

DnD[edit]

my experience with the "Do Not Delete" chest is quite extensive as i reach out twords every corner of skyrim to acquire as many as i can (i'm on Xbox 360 so i cant just dupe them...or can i ?) in most cases i run the game problem free and only exploit their lack of gravity when i truly need to. that being said, i have had problems with other objects such as spoons or other random spawn items floating or being out of place. in conclusing i think that they will only cause problems if they are abused Ex: overuse, extream duping, ect. ect. — Unsigned comment by 98.226.86.18 (talk) at 23:18 on 25 December 2014 (GMT)
