Summon/Conjure Seeker[edit]

Found summon/conjure seeker on this island, in the alcove where you first encounter the tentacle. 76.187.151.6 14:05, 12 December 2012 (GMT)

So did I.--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 01:33, 7 April 2013 (GMT)

I have 100 Conjuration with all the perks. Different case had a dragonscale helmet enchanted with large conjuration and destruction, and had just disabled my two dead thralls by conjuring an ash spawn.

Right after this I read the black book for the first time, and the Conjure Seeker tomb was no where to be found anywhere on the entire black book quest journey. I've had to reload from a prior save and won't be wearing the enchanted helmet, and waiting for the ash spawn to expire prior to opening and reading the black book so as NOT to jeopardize that the spell book might not be there on any of the tables nor ground around them.

The one bonus that I've found with the enchanted helmet that I crafted was that the Wabbajack staff never runs down in charges no matter how man times I fire at the various draugr in the bloodskal barrow nor the Raven Rock mine, etc. 216.58.27.151 20:24, 9 June 2022 (UTC)

Bugs[edit]

On the PC, you are sometimes unable to go back to Solstheim using the activator at the end. Matt/Gstaff from Bethesda gave an explanation for this issue. — Unsigned comment by Micknator (talkcontribs) at 00:24 on 6 February 2013

I didn't read everything from that link, but I'll add the bug to the article. Feel free to edit it for details and clarity since I didn't experience the same bug myself. — ABCface 00:55, 6 February 2013 (GMT)

Problem with Scholar's Insight?[edit]

I'm only getting one point instead of two [PC]. Anyone else? Zzyzx (talk) 01:17, 9 March 2013 (GMT)

Yes, I had that problem too. I noted it at Scholar's Insight in the Bugs section. It seems to be very specific, only affecting certain skills at certain levels. Robin Hood  (talk) 05:32, 27 April 2013 (GMT)

Black Book stuck in inventory.[edit]

After completing the related quest having picked Companion's Insight, returned to Solstheim and then Skyrim, and having the quest marked as completed correctly in my journal, I just can't drop the book or place it in a container: it's apparently still marked as a quest item. I still haven't done any of the other black book quests, so I don't know if this happens with other books as well. Is it required for another quest? If not, how does one fix this? I'd like to put that book on my house's bookshelf. --181.47.85.240 03:54, 9 March 2013 (GMT)

The Black Books stay in your inventory so that you can't lose or misplace them. After you have completed a quest for a Black Book, you can read them again and return to Apocrypha to select a different power reward (or just to gather more loot). You must be in Solstheim to "read" them, though. Trying to read them in Skyrim will not transport you back to Apocrypha. Minotaur (talk) 14:37, 21 October 2014 (GMT)

Can you return to change which reward you have?[edit]

I haven't tried, but is it possible to return to the area the book sends you to? This was the first black book I used, and from what Hermaeus Mora said when I arrived it sounded like I was supposed to be able to come and go freely by reading the book. Of course, he may have meant the giant book at the end instead of the one I was carrying, but can you?--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 01:33, 7 April 2013 (GMT)

Yes. You should be able to. -- Ad Intellige Mecum loqui 01:42, 7 April 2013 (GMT)
Thanks. Some of the related pages don't seem very clear on that point for Black Books. I thought they implied that you can't go back.--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 08:29, 7 April 2013 (GMT)
The quest (dialog box) text when you choose one does imply this but its good to know this is the case, was here checking the advantages anyway as i didnt think it would give a description but useful info. Not sure how but maybe could be incorporated into the mainpage. "Note: return using the book to change the outcome of your insight." or something to that effect. Killerchronic (talk) 03:36, 27 April 2013 (GMT)
If you read carefully, it actually says that you can only have one at a time. Still, until I actually went and did the quests, I remember having the impression from what a couple of people said that you could only get each reward once, so I've specifically noted the fact that you can return on each relevant page. Confusion Over Who/What Companion's Insight Protects[edit]

(Platform: XBox 360) I currently have J'zargo, Shadowmere and the pet Dwarven Spider (DG) as my Dynamic Quadro team. I chose Companion's Insight to keep my gang healthy, alive and smiling. J'zargo stays alive in combat even if I hit him with dual cast Incinerate, although he grumbles at me all the time about being on my side. Funnily, the little Dwarven guy (level 16 ... pfft!) doesn't incur damage from me in combat either. I can't count, however, the number of times Shadowmere has died at my hand. It's not relegated to any one form of attack. I'm planning to shoot a Forsworn at range, bow and arrow. Aim, release and suddenly Shadowmere's between me and the baddie. Down goes Shadowmere. (I, by no means a purist, reload the last save.)

I understand this perk covers "in combat" only, so if I accidentally shoot any of my guys while we're puttering around, none is protected and each dies a miserable death. But I'm confused why Shadowmere isn't covered in combat (if he is supposed to be covered, I have a bug). Neither this page about the specific perks nor the Shadowmere page offers me an explanation.

J'zargo's in the permanent follower position. Spidey is in the pet position. What's Shadowmere that he is somehow a follower who isn't a follower? Are we protecting Shadowmere by choosing Companion's Insight? (Not a member yet. Signed, FairEmma.) — Unsigned comment by 76.100.217.204 (talk) at 01:55 on 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Shadowmere is a mount, not a follower. It only follows you when you fast travel. —Legoless (talk) 18:07, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Or when I'm walking over to something dead. But, yes, that makes perfect sense. Thanks! Now I just need to find a way to coax Shadowmere into being a little less enthusiastic in trying to protect me. That, or discover an Elixir of Prescience I can down before confrontations. In the horse/mount case, might it be an idea to notate this distinction on the relevant pages?: Shadowmere; Horses (there is no page for Mounts that I can find); Black Book: The Winds of Change (quest); Dragonborn:Powers, down in the Abilities table. A simple "(Given context - Companion's Insight) Does not apply to horses or other mounts" might do? FairEmma (talk) 20:17, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Respawn Question[edit]

I have found that certain areas of Apocrypha are good places to farm for rarer books, scrolls, and spell books which are sometimes dropped by the Seekers. However, this area of Apocrypha does not appear to respawn. If I am correct about that, it's probably worth noting on the page. With encumbrance being such a hassle and the only home available on Solstheim being locked behind three dungeons and other tasks, The Winds of Change is incredibly useful as the Solstheim version of a D&D portable hole. Once you have cleared this small area of Apocrypha and claimed one of its rewards, you can return at any time while you are in Solstheim. This is one of the Apocrypha areas that doesn't have the poisonous darkness, and there is a handy vessel right next to the Black Book. You can stash all your extra gear there, return to Solstheim, and get right back to adventuring without being encumbered and without having to look for a container in which to stash stuff, remember which container you used, and worry about NPCs grabbing weapons you stashed in the container. Is there a place in the wiki that would be appropriate for posting this tip? Valeria (talk) 17:48, 11 September 2021 (UTC)
