Tremors[edit]

Is the ground supposed to shake every few seconds while you stand outside near the ruins? Lord Irvine (talk) 07:13, 26 October 2012 (GMT)

Is it possible there were some giants and/or mammoths nearby? (Possibly on the other side of a ridge where you couldn't see them.) That's the only thing I can think of that would do that. Dragons also make the ground shake, but not every few seconds like that, plus you'd probably know if there were a dragon nearby. TheRealLurlock (talk) 12:05, 26 October 2012 (GMT)
Actually, that is something that has to do with this location (Katria even refers to it in dialogue inside at times). It happens outside of the ruins when you're close and also inside as well. It should be added to the article somewhere. — ABCface 12:09, 26 October 2012 (GMT)
Here are some of her lines (if it helps) for reference and convenience: 1234. ~ Psylocke 16:39, 26 October 2012 (GMT)
I remember her explanations too, I forgot to mention that the Dwarven ruin was designed to give the impression of instability. Would it be useful to note somewhere that this was once possibly the best-preserved Dwarven city, until Katria hit the wrong combination on the tonal lock and the entire place fell apart? She tells a story that goes pretty much like that to explain her death and the unstable mess left for you to navigate through.--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 23:54, 1 November 2012 (GMT)

Clearable[edit]

Although the zone flag suggests that this location is clearable, I am unable to find a way to do so. As far as I can tell, no scripts or actors related to the location clear the dungeon. --Roger (talk) 15:07, 1 February 2013 (GMT)

Yeah, no boss defined, no single call to SetCleared() in the Dawnguard scripts I can see. It is not marked as cleared in my game and I completed Lost to the Ages. --Alfwyn (talk) 15:48, 1 February 2013 (GMT)

Kinetic targets not resetting after wrong guesses?[edit]

How do I get the Kinetic targets to reset so that I can a) fight the Centurion and get the core that it is carrying and then b) to input the correct order to be able to collect the shard etc. It lets me hit the wrong ones four times which gives me the spiders and spheres, then the next two wrong guesses give me bolts from the ballista, but as none of them reset back to the bottom it won't register me hitting them again? Please help as I really want to get the core from the centurion....Thanks Biffa (talk) 15:38, 22 March 2013 (GMT)

Ok, very confused this morning, but loaded up last save and targets acted properly straight away? nothing worked yesterday, but now everything appears to be running fine. Strange but true... Biffa (talk) 10:38, 23 March 2013 (GMT)

Kinetic Targets Not Working[edit]

The Kinetic Targets refused to reset when the attempt was wrong, or open the doors when the attempt was right. I could trigger the spiders, the spheres, and the first ballista, but nothing else. Using Zephyr and the dwarvern arrows didn't fix anything. I thought it might be broken because when I accessed the chest through the secret tunnel, my follower and Katria managed to glitch through the doors, but reloading from before and ignoring the chest didn't work. Exiting and re-entering didn't work. At this point I'm going to reload to a save before and see if that works. Jazstar (talk) 04:28, 10 June 2013 (GMT)

Is it okay to add a better description (proposed below) to find the chest below the ramps area?[edit]

The wiki says, "Continuing to the right, you will traverse some earthen ramps that contain more Falmer. Below this area is a ledge with another small Dwarven chest. You will reach a gate with no apparent way to open it, but..." This chest proved especially hard to find for me since it wasn't easily visible by looking below from the ramps area before the gate.

I suggest the following instructions to finding it instead:

  1. Find the gate with no apparent way to open it. Katria will point this out if she is with you.
  2. Cross over to the other side over the fallen column.
  3. Proceed right to an apparent dead end of the ledge. This is the opposite direction from the way ahead. There are some Falmer built fences to your left and some glowing mushrooms to your right. There is a gap in the fences from where you can look down to see a ledge.
  4. Drop down onto the ledge to find a chest.
  5. Return to the earthen ramps by going down the ledge and carefully walking on some rocks.

Instead of that long list, one may also simply suggest this instead:

One way to reach the chest is to use the whirlwind sprint shout from a part of the ramp that is directly opposite to the chest. This part of the ramp is the one just before the climb up to the door which needs to be opened from the other side. The section with the climb is where I had to fight some Falmer. (The fight is already referenced in the wiki.)

Since I'm new to the wiki, I'm unable to decide how best to include this information. Any help or advice on how to do so would be most appreciated.

This seems far too lengthy to include in the main body of the page, just to get to one chest. If you could shorten it down a bit, show me what you get and I'll see about adding it to the page. Xolroc (talk) 12:49, 24 October 2013 (GMT)
Thanks for the reply. I'll work it out to my satisfaction and then post it on this page. Give me a day or two to get it done please. Thanks. Batbrat (talk) 14:36, 24 October 2013 (GMT)

Black Book quest?[edit]

As I was playing on one of my characters on the 360 version, I came across one of the mad men raving about the Black Books. I talked with him and he turned on me, so I killed him. I searched his body and found a note pointing out a Black Book location. I found this odd because I had already found all the Black Books in the game. The quest started and told me to go find the Black Book in Arkngthamz, which isn't even on Solstheim, and doesn't have a Black Book. I dismissed this as a bug, but I am still concerned over it, and besides, a quest that you can't complete sitting in your log is just plain cruel. Any help that can be provided regarding this would be greatly appreciated. — Unsigned comment by RedBlacksmith (talkcontribs) at 05:59 on 31 December 2013

Was Arkingthamz written on the note or was it just the marker? The quest script specifies that the dungeon mentioned should have the keyword "DLC2BlackBook" and not be the Temple or Nchardak. The marker's are messy when you move from Solstheim to Skyrim or vice versa with a quest that doesn't take place in the other. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:28, 31 December 2013 (GMT)

Inaccessible Chest in Final Area[edit]

Can anyone explain how to access the chest on a ledge behind a pipe right over the stream exit tunnel in the final area without having Whirlwind Shout? I have not been able to locate any explanation of how to get to it. Only one walkthrough I found even mentions it and not how to get to it. I have attempted every method of access possible via climbing, going around, jumping, etc. — Unsigned comment by 24.17.20.108 (talk) at 11:49 on 31 January 2014‎

There are many ways to achieve this. Here's two options:
  1. Jump from a ledge onto the top of the small pillar that sticks up out of the water. Jump from there to the leaning arch. Jump from there to the pillar that sticks out at an angle, and immediately jump to the ledge that holds the chest.
  2. Scale your way up the leaning arch, mountain-goat style, then follow the directions above from off the arch.
Hope these ideas help. Daric 04:23, 17 June 2014 (GMT)

Some Stuff Not Selectable[edit]

I'm finding some stuff in this area that can't be selected. I've found some Glowing Mushroom clusters that I couldn't harvest. In the final chamber with the tonal lock, I made my way to a ledge and found a chest I can't open. It seems like there was some other stuff too that I can't think of at the moment.104.15.180.18 02:16, 31 October 2017 (UTC)

Katria’s Journal[edit]

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems that if you find Arkngthamz via your own exploring without reading The Aetherium Wars, then Katria’s Journal will not be present when you explore the ruins. Can anybody confirm this?--Grimbold (talk) 01:39, 29 December 2021 (UTC)
