Reptilian?[edit]

Why is Argonian claimed to be reptilian? Aren't reptilians cold blooded and have their hind legs ,when they have any, sprawling? I have been tought that, for example, dinosaurs are not reptilians because of this. Am i wrong? / Temin 80.216.108.29 12:24, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

If you've been taught that dinosaurs weren't reptiles, you've been taught incorrectly. Argonians may or may not be cold-blooded - we have no information one way or the other. rpeh •TCE 12:32, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
Dinosaurs were luke-warm blooded, given their size. — Unsigned comment by 70.184.5.80 (talk) at 21:29 on 15 November 2011
I think it would be very difficult for an Argonian to wander around in Skyrim if they were cold-blooded - I feel it's rather safe to assume they're warm blooded. Baron 23:17, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
Argonians refer to others as "warmbloods." So they are surely cold-blooded. They may just have a wider range of temperature tolerance than alligators and turtles - after all fish are cold-blooded too, and there are fish in some REALLY cold places. — Unsigned comment by 99.127.173.78 (talk) at 18:18 on 25 January 2012

() I personally think it's weird that they're still described as aquatic when they've swapped out the fins for horns and raptor feathers, though. Not to mention reptiles don't actually breathe in water anyway, as they do not have gills. Karsciyin 21:18, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

They're also descended from trees or something. It's best to not think too hard about that. They're probably just called reptiles because there are no modern biologists in Skyrim and people just refer to them as the most similar animal they can think of. Argonians do look like lizards/alligators. — Unsigned comment by 99.127.173.78 (talk) at 18:18 on 25 January 2012
Apparently, you're unfamiliar with the word Amphibian. — Unsigned comment by 76.84.87.135 (talk) at 10:27 on 25 February 2012
Anon: Amphibious Reptile is rather an oxymoron. — Unsigned comment by 121.73.198.59 (talk) at 13:42 on 1 May 2012
Check out alligators for an example of something like an Argonian. Vely►Talk►Email 22:01, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

I think they are built like great white sharks...My theory is that they are homeothermic and maintain a higher body temperature than their ambient environment. They have a strip of aerobic red muscle located near the center of the body that generates the heat, which the body retains via a countercurrent exchange mechanism by a system of blood vessels called the rete mirabile. They use thier tails to generate this heat, that is why it must be constantly in motion,in or out of water.--70.190.247.253 05:08, 7 October 2013 (GMT)

Not resistant to Poison as in Oblivion[edit]

It should be noted that Argonians in SKYRIM are not resistant to Poison like they are in Oblivion. And yet the text mentions that, due to their environment, they have developed a resistance to both poison and disease. — Unsigned comment by 24.43.87.114 (talk) at 01:41 on 19 November 2011

The text is currently taken from the lore article, but, good point. --Chill02 05:57, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Faster healing? Yes or no?[edit]

Argonians having faster passive healing (without histskin on) is a claim that is sometimes made, however when I personally tested it it was not true.

Of course, my test was far from precise, so I do not know whether I am right. Does anyone that knows better know whether they actually heal faster? 213.81.109.62 01:13, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

This rumor is due to prerelease information that we had. We knew the argonian Histskin ability increased health regeneration, but it wasn't known at the time if it was a power or a passive. Now we know it's a power. Argonians do not heal any faster than other races when not using Histskin. --SushiSquid 11:01, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
However, that should not diminish the fact that when using Histskin, they heal faster than a healer actively dual-casting a per-second healing spell. Seriously, Histskin is one of the better racial powers. 74.197.144.85 05:28, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
That does depend entirely on the HP pool though. IE an argonian with only 100 hp will only gain 7hp per second, which is not as good as dualcast healing (24 per second when using a heal spell in each hand, which since doing so with constant effect destruction spells is better than actually dualcasting, I will assume the same is true of healing). In order to beat dual cast healing you would need 350hp, (without any health regen speed bonuses) which not all people will have. JimmyDeSouza 08:21, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Fish ARE reptiles[edit]

Claiming the Argonian "also" resembles a fish and not just a reptile is redundant. This could certainly be worded better. — Unsigned comment by 69.88.228.158 (talk) at 05:37 on 6 December 2011

Fish are reptiles? Your biology teacher has failed you my friend.
Fish : A paraphyletic group of organisms that consist of all gill-bearing aquatic vertebrate (or craniate) animals that lack limbs with digits.
Reptile : (class Reptilia) are members of a class of air-breathing, ectothermic (cold-blooded) vertebrates which are characterized by laying shelled eggs (except for some vipers and constrictor snakes that give live birth), and having skin covered in scales and/or scutes. They are tetrapods, either having four limbs or being descended from four-limbed ancestors. JimmyDeSouza 08:25, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Glitchy Tail[edit]

I've noticed a few things about the Argonians' tails that I'm sure others have noticed as well. While running, the tail waggle animation can be off, so instead of the fluid snake-like motion the tail should be following, it flaps wildly from side to side like a happy Labrador dog. However, the worst thing about the tail I've noticed (besides clipping through clothes/capes), is when you're sneaking. As a thief character, this bothers me a lot. Basically, when you sneak/crouch and walk forwards, the tail looks normal and acts naturally. Now, when you crouch/sneak and hold shift while you move (moving forwards very slowly) the tails turns completely sideways and looks really odd. Here's some screens of what I mean:

This first one is normal sneaking and how the tail should look: [1]

This is what the tail looks like when you hold down shift while sneaking: [2] — Unsigned comment by 99.136.224.214 (talk) at 23:44 on 14 December 2011

I don't know if I would call this a glitch or not. Afterall, for something that has a tail, it is used for balance. It could just be how the devs thought to adjust for balance issues. Kou Nurasaka 14:42, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
When you STOP sneaking though, I've noticed that the tail actually flips COMPLETELY UPSIDE-DOWN and then rotates clockwise to the position in the first screenshot. Same animations with the Khajiit. Also when switching from 1st to third sometimes the tail isn't moving at all, or the animations are running twice as fast (rubber tail) e_e Karsciyin 21:14, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
yes, and to add to it, if you change directions, the tail will revert back to normal, but as soon as you move straight while sneaking, the tail flips completely sideways again. It just looks very unnatural because the Argonian's butt isn't twisting around to allow for his tail to have this kind of movement. It's not like Argonians have an octopus tail, it's more like an alligator's tail (or other reptile). It's a strong tail, but it doesn't have a ton of movement. Argonians and full-face helmets[edit]

Oddly, when you equip a full-face helmet, the model doesn't change to reflect the length of the nose and jaw of an argonian, so I can only imagine what kind of smushing happens when you equip one. — Unsigned comment by 75.34.55.137 (talk) at 10:06 on 22 January 2012

Power Bash Issues?[edit]

I was changing some attack data for playable races in Creation Kit and accidentally noticed that argonians are missing keyword assignment for power bash animations. That would mean that Disarming Bash perk which use PowerAttackBash keyword in conditions will not work for argonians. Did anyone who play argonians actually noticed that power bash disarm does not work in the game? Mitchalek 11:01, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for the report. I've copied the details to the article, and added that it will work when they're vampires...or at least that's how it looks in the CK. Robin Hoodtalk 04:54, 3 March 2012 (UTC)

Attack damage[edit]

This was moved from the bugs section of the main article.

For an unknown reason, my unarmed attacks use the same Khajiit animations and I gain the bonus of extra unarmed damge. I have also found that other Argonians use claws in brawls and do more damge than usual to me. — Unsigned comment by 88.108.100.209 (talk) at 23:45 on 25 February 2012

The reason you have extra unnarmed damage is because argonian unarmed damage is set to 10 rather then the 4 for every race other then the two beast races, Khajiit also have a passive bonus on top of the 10 base — Unsigned comment by 91.194.220.8 (talk) at 14:14 on 28 February 2012

Male Argonian Dragonborn[edit]

I have known this for quite awhile and I'm not fustrated by it but I would like to know the reason...when I shout I sound more human than reptillian and it seems funny (laughter for 0.05 seconds)/strange/unreal as it makes me wonder if the "trailer dragonborn" came from a Male argonian dragonborn. AlphArgonian182 16:50 24th May 2012 (UTC)

What does this even mean? Argonians have voices like rough-voiced humans, are you expecting them to make velociraptor noises or something? — Unsigned comment by 99.127.173.78 (talk) at 16:46 on September 4, 2012
Probably a conversation better suited to the forums. Vely►t►e 12:51, 4 September 2012 (EDT)

Dragon Shouts[edit]

Are all of you male argonians shouting like Nords? When using dragon shouts

My female Argonian sure does. --Shahrazad the Listener (talk) 11:04, 3 June 2017 (UTC)

Argonian tail glitch.[edit]

I have this strange glitch werew whenever I kill an argonian it's tail Stays were the argonian was killed resulting in super long tails, Has anyone else have this glitch?Werewolfvampirre (talk) 04:52, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

I've seen it occasionally with both Argonians and Khajiit. I always put it down to Bethesda being Bethesda. Shahrazad the Listener (talk) 13:32, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
