Enchantment only works on humanoids?[edit]

I just hit a spider with this shield and it turned etheral and ran off for 15 seconds. Last I checked spider's aren't humanoid. I think the shield just doesn't work on a selection of creatures (like illusion spells). --SamGhadiali 14:20, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

UPDATE: Works on giants, daedra(atronachs), mammoths, spriggans, goats, sabre cats, dwarven automations but obviously not dragons (just ran around Skyrim bashing stuff with the shield). I think it would be safe to say that it works on everything except dragons and probably a few other rare cases. Its also note worthy that when etheral the targer runs away. --SamGhadiali 14:42, 5 July 2012 (UTC)
I'm not seeing any reason in CSList why it wouldn't apply to non-humanoid creatures. It seems like it would apply to anything you could bash. ABCface 04:28, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Been using the shield and it doesn't work in the soul cairn or maybe just the inhabitents. Think this would need verification though.--SamGhadiali 00:26, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
It stopped work temporarily in the soul cairn but works again now on everything. Possibly the same bug that made somebody note it doesn't work on humanoids. --SamGhadiali 00:49, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
Figured out the problem. When equipping from your item's list the enchantment works just fine. However when deselected to use something else for your left hand and then reselected with autoequip (for example you switch from a bow to your sword and your shield is equipped automatically) then the enchantment doesn't work at all. Easily fixed however by selecting and deselecting from the menu. --SamGhadiali 01:12, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Effect on Followers[edit]

Will the shield work if equipped by a follower? — Unsigned comment by 76.218.69.88 (talk) at 08:59 on 1 December 2013 (GMT)

Ancient Knowledge reference[edit]

The page notes has the following text: "Even though the shield is of Dwarven make, the armor bonus from Ancient Knowledge, rewarded by the Unfathomable Depths quest, does not apply to this item" - This is a known bug with that perk being applied to all armor except Dwarven. I wonder if that should be rewritten something like this "The shield is of Dwarven make and so does not get the bonus from Ancient Knowledge due to a bug in that perk." with links to the perk and possibly the bug? Disarming Bash Bug[edit]

I've clarified in the bugs section on the main page how the shield works with Disarming Bash. Up until taking Disarming Bash, the enchantment still works as normal with Power Bashes using the Power Bash and Deadly Bash perks. However, after taking Disarming Bash and re-equiping the shield Power Bash no longer applies the enchantment. I've read that Disarming Bash functions more or less as a spell, so I guess this supersedes the enchantment of the shield.

No other source I could find had this info, all just saying the enchantment doesn't work with Power Bashes, which isn't true. It's very useful in a way, as it gives access to both the shield enchantment through regular bashes and a disarming effect through power bashes, meaning you can make a couple of enemies in a mob run away and disarm the main guy. --JDizzle (talk) 10:51, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

Healing cancelling ethereal state - moved from article[edit]

"Additionally, they will run away, as though influenced by a Fear spell, though magicians can render this useless if they heal themselves. However, doing so restores their visibility and thus their ability to be harmed."

Can this be confirmed to make sure it's not a one-off occurrence (as normally NPCs won't heal themselves when Feared), and if so, is it worth noting? --Xyzzy Talk 19:07, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

Actual duration[edit]

The description says that without the unofficial patch, the shield's effect will not last 15 seconds... So how long does it last without the unofficial patch? MidbossVyers (talk) 17:27, 3 May 2020 (GMT)

10 seconds without the Unnoficial Patch. -- Werewolfvampire (talk) 01:23, 4 May 2020 (GMT)
