• When first meeting him, his name is simply Stranger. After he gives the cowl to you, his name is revealed. This is a reference to the Gray Cowl's ability to magically conceal identities.
• His name is likely derived from the Old Norse word þjófr, meaning "thief', except the creator seems to have mistakenly identified the letter þ (known as "thorn" and pronounced as the "th" in "thorn") as a "p". A more correct spelling would thus have been Thjofr.
