Quick Walkthrough

1. Speak to Romlyn Dreth.
2. Make your decision:
   • Turn in Romlyn to Indaryn.
   • Deliver the keg to Wilhelm in the inn at Ivarstead.

Detailed Walkthrough

If you snoop around Black-Briar Meadery, you'll discover a memo to employees lying around speaking out about recent thefts. Speak to Romlyn Dreth and you'll find out that he is the source of the problem. He can be found in the lower level of the meadery at roughly after 1pm and The Bee and Barb in the evening. Romlyn has been selling Black-Briar Mead from underneath the meadery at a lower cost. He states that he can no longer get the mead out of Riften and offers to cut you in on the action if you deliver the mead to his customer.

Delivering the Mead

Should you choose to deliver the mead for Romlyn all you need to do is take it to Vilemyr Inn in Ivarstead. The bartender there is named Wilhelm and will thank you for the delivery offering you some leveled jewelry in return. You can speak to Romlyn again to make additional deliveries.^{[verification needed — one time quest in SSE]}

Turning in Romlyn

All you need to do to turn in Romlyn is speak to Indaryn and select the special dialogue option. Indaryn will thank you and give you some leveled gems.

Notes

• Either choice will make the low-level items in Black-Briar Meadery freely available, including Black-Briar Mead barrels.
• If you turn Romlyn in to Indaryn, Romlyn will keep working at the meadery. He will also continue to sell you his "under the table" Black-Briar Mead despite telling you every time that "a Dreth never forgets a traitor".
  • With version 1.2.4 of the Unofficial Skyrim Patch, Romlyn will be jailed and he will no longer offer to sell you any mead.

Notes

• Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
• Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
• Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
• If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
• On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage FreeformRiften03 stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest FreeformRiften03.
