Where?[edit]

where is the best place to find gnarls so i can get my amber gear? — Unsigned comment by 76.73.189.89 (talk) on 20 September 2008

See the map on this page. It shows the probable locations of Gnarls, although you should realise that it's not a guarantee that one will be present, or that it will hold amber even if it is. –RpehTCE 11:50, 20 September 2008 (EDT)

Gnarl Prisoners[edit]

Are they always non hostile? The article doesn't say so but just for the hell of it I freed the Gnarl prisoners. After the Gummites were killed I expected them to go after me, but they simply ignored me, they even let me heal them. On my current playthrough they're Verdant Gnarls. At first, I didn't see anything, but looking into it a little deeper, I discovered that you're correct...mostly. ;) The Gnarl Prisoners have an Aggression level of 100, which basically means "attack on sight". However, they also belong to a faction called SEBlackrootGnarlPrisoner, which has a bonus of 100 to their Disposition towards the player, effectively cancelling out their Aggression and making them non-hostile. These values can, however, be changed by things like Frenzy spells. Under normal circumstances, however, they will remain non-hostile. --Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 19:13, 7 June 2009 (EDT)
Ah I see. Even though I have the PC version of Oblivion too, I never looked into the Construction Set. Getting too technical with a game often ruins the fun of playing the game for me and I'd spend all my time checking out the technical aspects. (Just like Mugen, I spend more time fixing and looking into stuff than playing it...) I think it's pretty neat that they made them not hostile towards the player. Diadu 11:36, 13 June 2009 (EDT)

Multi Element spells on Gnarls, how does it work?[edit]

If I for example use apotheosis or one of the new fire/frost spells or a custom 3 element spell what will the gnarl resist? Will it resist all or the first effect or last effect only and be weak to the other two? Is a 3 effect elemental attack a lazy way to take advantage of their potential weakness if it is cast twice? Thanks 206.53.58.90 05:28, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Good Question! How would these buggers handle Wizards Fury? (Fire damage 10pts for 15 sec, Frost damage 30pts, Shock damage 30pts). — Unsigned comment by 76.112.31.124 (talk) at 02:36 on 5 March 2010
I'm unsure of how it works exactly, but the gnarls are definitely not resistant to my own cycustom weapon with both shock and frost damage, so I can only assume the game (arbitrarily, perhaps) selects one of the elements it's hit with to choose the resistance and weakness. In either case, with the resistance being of lower value than the weakness, it would be weakened against double-damage effects. 75.174.253.97 05:03, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Gnarl Cultivator...[edit]

When I enter the Fountainhead in New Sheoth Palace, a Gnarl Cultivator follows me wherever I go and will stay near me usually at all times. It's pretty cool, but it gets annoying at times. Has anyone else seen this? I'm just wondering if it's just me or other's.

Physicaly Larger?[edit]

Okay, I was reading the article when I found out they apparently get bigger when struck by magic? is this really true, I don't want to have giant gnarls following me around... (MASH) — Unsigned comment by 19:23, 12 December 2011 (talkcontribs)

Yes, it's true, but the effect only lasts for 16 seconds: 3 seconds growing, 10 seconds at the new size, then 3 seconds to shrink again. Also, it only applies to fire, frost, and shock effects. Robin Hoodtalk 01:36, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Gnarl Elder has a Common soul?[edit]

I was looking at Elder Gnarls and the boss versions on xEdit, can anybody manually confirm in-game that the soul is actually Common despite being listed as Grand on this wiki's chart? 99.179.145.178 12:51, 5 October 2023 (UTC)

The Soul does indeed show as "Common" in the CS but you'll notice it's greyed-out. That's because it's not actually set to Common, it's just an auto-setting for when creatures have the "PC Level Offset" box ticked. What actually happens is that the soul is technically leveled. However as Elder Gnarls have a minimum level of 21, they will always be Grand. See here for more info. --SerCenKing (talk) 15:47, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
