Split[edit]

This page is so big that I was getting 504 timeout errors trying to place the split tag. Per this discussion, it should really be split. If we want a full list as that discussion suggests, it needs to be hosted somewhere like Online:Quest Items/all, because I imagine it isn't a servable web page for many users in the current form. This article is far more important as a hub page than as a comprehensive list. It might be preferable to split alphabetically rather than by zone if searchability is a concern. —Legoless (talk) 20:05, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

If both alphabetical and by-zone are wanted, we can always use {{#lst}} like we do for Contraband. --Enodoc (talk) 00:48, 19 December 2016 (UTC)
I still maintain that a single page which contains all items would have use as a central reference page, as you can't necessarily tell by looking what zone an item comes from (especially since there are many identically named items in different zones). However, I do agree that this page is far too slow loading in its current form. What might work is to have just a plain list of all items on one page, but without icons, item links, quest names, and descriptions. A plain text list split by zone could then direct you to the appropriate quest items page. Possibly we could add Linkable Entries to the specific pages, and have this page be a list of links to these entries. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 21:26, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
An alphabetical list would solve the issue of not knowing what zone an item comes from, and would also stick identical items next to each other so they can be compared. --Enodoc (talk) 21:40, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
Yes, but I don't think doing this the same way as Contraband is a good idea. In fact, I've been having similar problems loading some of the longer Contraband pages, so I don't think it's a good idea there either. And this list would be even longer, so it definitely wouldn't work well in this case. It's a neat feature, but if it can't be made to work reliably on longer lists, it's just not useful at all. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 22:09, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
So how do we want to approach it? A manual split? —Legoless (talk) 22:15, 21 December 2016 (UTC)
A manual list of links would be appropriate - though for links to work we'd have to add linkable entries to the individual pages, so it'll be a multi-phase process. Need to check if Linkable Entry plays nicely with Item Link. I've seen some problems with Item Link not working well with other templates in the past, so I'll have to test that. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 06:17, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
I've just created a template which should help with this: Linkable Item Link. It combines Linkable Entry and Item Link, so we should be able to just swap out the template name without any other changes on all of the individual pages to make those entries linkable. Tested it out on Betnikh Quest Items, e.g. Stinkweed. Please verify that this works properly so we can go ahead and implement this en masse. (I picked the shortest page for this test, so you may need to make your browser window smaller to test that the linkable entry part is working correctly.) — TheRealLurlock (talk) 07:18, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
It doesn't seem to be working for me. —Legoless (talk) 15:06, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
Whoops, my bad. That's because it was Bal Foyen, not Betnikh. D'oh. Try these: Bal Foyen Quest Items, e.g. StinkweedTheRealLurlock (talk) 15:45, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
Yep, working fine! —Legoless (talk) 15:47, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

() Page has been split. One giant sortable hidden table seems to have less performance issues than transcluding all of those item links did, so I think this works. Let me know how you feel about the new design. — TheRealLurlock (talk) 19:14, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

Definitely loads a lot better for me now. —Legoless (talk) 20:05, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

Quest Items from Dungeon DLC - What Category?[edit]

The Moon Hunter Keep dungeon quest has a couple of quest items. My question is should a new page for DLC Dungeon quest items be created, or should the items be added to the Reaper's March page because that is where said dungeon entrance is.--Talyyn (talk) 10:15, 6 October 2018 (UTC)

We're already separating by DLC, so a Wolf Hunter page seems most appropriate. —Legoless (talk) 16:20, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
