Volunidai

Volunidai is a High Elf noblewoman who has fallen madly in love with an Imperial artist named Vantus, who fled the Imperial City before Molag Bal's Daedric invasion.

Unfortunately for her, Vantus never existed and is yet another pseudonym used by the notorious former Thieves Guild guildmaster and conman, Nicolas. You have the option of revealing his past to Volunidai and advise her on what action to take.

Dialogue[edit]

When you first encounter her, she will turn you away:

"I don't often receive visitors in my garden. Especially the uninvited ones."
I need to speak with your husband.
"Vantus? Whatever for?
And who are you, exactly?"
"Vantus" and I have unfinished business.
"He struggles enough finding his muse. Distracting him with financial matters will disturb his concentration.
I must ask you to leave. I will inform Vantus you stopped by."

If you try talking to her afterwards, she will say, "If you don't leave, I shall have my servant escort you out."

After you have spoken with "Vantus", you have many options of how to deal with him. If you decided that she should know the truth, you can talk to her outside.

"What now? I thought I asked you to leave."
The man you married is a thief and a liar.
"How dare you! Vantus is a respected artist from the Imperial City. He fled before all the troubles with the Daedra.
You say he is not the man with whom I fell in love? What proof have you? None, of course!"
He's wanted for stealing the dowry of Magnifica Falorah. Also, attempting to blackmail her into marriage.
"The Jewel of Taneth? Marriage?
No, I cannot take you at your word. You must understand that."
You don't have to. I have his wanted poster. Here, see for yourself.
"Leader of the Thieves Guild? Is his name Nicolas, or is it Cosh? A known conman ….
This cannot be! I thought he loved me. What should I do?"
Protect yourself. Keep him as far away from your money as you can.
"I have a relative at the bank. I'll ensure my funds are protected.
Whatever he's called, he won't leave here with a single coin."
Seek out a man named Chief Inspector Rhanbiq. He wants Nicolas brought to justice in Taneth.
"I'll find this Rhanbiq. Tell him everything I know.
Before the month ends, my soon-to-be ex-husband shall be tried in Taneth."
Make him pay. He could have stolen your fortune.
"I will have this false marriage annulled.
Before this day ends, I'll ensure he's deported from these lands."

After helping her make a decision, she will yell at "Vantus" as she runs into her home:

Volunidai: "Vantus! Or Nicolas. Whoever you are, you are no longer welcome!"
Nicolas: "My darling Volu, I can explain!"
"How could you do this? My dear husband …"

However, if you decided that Nicolas needed to die, she will run in after you do the deed.

Volunidai: "What was that noise? What's going on in here?"
Volunidai: "Vantus? No!"
Volunidai: "How could you do this? My dear husband … oh, Vantus! Come back to me, my love! Come back to me!"

Finally if you just asked Nicolas to never return to Abah's Landing. He will thank you for the chance and run out to make an excuse about your visit to the manor to his wife.
