Ukaezai's spirit

Ukaezai is a Dremora encountered in the Reliquary of Stars. She has mastery over the ruins, being able to possess bodies, books and even turn others into statues.

While she was under the service of the ancient Ayleids, they grew tired of her meddling so much that they decided to split her spirit from her body to try to contain her. Since the fall of her Ayleid masters, she has sought to regain control of her body.

Dialogue

Lost in Study

When you enter the Flesh Garden to search for Tedryni, you will find that Ukaezai has turned him into a statue.

Ukaezai: "Another petitioner, so soon after the other! If it would hold still, I could capture its likeness."

Speaking to Ukaezai, she will say:

"So many fleshlings running through the halls. Such obstreperous creatures!
You seem a fine specimen. I don't think I have one of your kind in my garden."

I'm looking for Tedryni.

"Oh, and it speaks!
I just finished a Tedryni. Some of my finest work, between you and me. Though you couldn't possibly appreciate the detail."

How do I get him out of your garden?

"Why, you need to entertain me.
There are a variety of chests throughout the gardens. I placed your friend's soul in one of them. See if you find it before my posing retinue tears you to pieces!"

Who are you? / What are you, exactly?

"The caretaker. I preserve everything against the ravages of time. Scrolls and books are easy, but the Ayleids themselves ….
They resisted at first. But they saw things my way, in time. Have a look around you!"

These statues are Ayleids?

"They used to be. Turning a body to stone is easy.
The trick is keeping the mind intact. If they hadn't settled into place so many years ago, I'd introduce you to my former masters. Pity."

Are you a ghost?

"Hardly. My masters found there were certain … difficulties in allowing me to roam this place unfettered. So they split me from my body.
In this form I can go where I please, but I can't touch anything directly. It's quite upsetting."

Ukaezai will disappear when you exit the conversation.

You can quickly speak to her just before she vanishes:

"Oh, don't be cross. You'll find your friend, or you'll die trying. Either way, you won't have to worry about it for much longer.
Mortals are so finicky."

Heart of the Matter

Laranalda will suggest you explore the Hall of Might with Behelir. Enter the room beyond the bookcase and he becomes almost uncharacteristically excited:

Behelir: "The Heart of Anumaril!"

Behelir: "I never thought I'd hold it …."

His voice changes…

Ukaezai: "… in my own two hands! Well, puppet hands count as my hands."

And his appearance wavers…

Ukaezai: "The power … it's exquisite! And I have you to thank!"

Ukaezai: "And now, I really must take this Behelir puppet for a stroll."

Ukaezai: "Let's see how fast it can run!"

As you pursue the Daedra, she'll mock:

Ukaezai: "I'm nearly free, after all these years!"

Ukaezai: "Once I have my body back, the mortals will suffer! I'll make them all suffer …."

Ukaezai: "I don't have time for this."

Ukaezai enters the next room where Laranalda is waiting:

Ukaezai: "This really is too easy."

Laranalda: "Behelir! What are you doing?"

As you approach her in the Relequary Vault, she'll say:

Ukaezai: "… and with one final shift …."

Ukaezai: "Yes, it's working! I can feel it!"

The world goes dark and you wake to find you have fallen through the floor. You see the Heart and pick it up. Pursue Ukaezai and she'll be in the next room looking for the heart:

Throughout the battle, her body falls as her spirit rises from the flesh:

Ukaezai: "What? What's happening?"

Ukaezai: "You'll have to try harder than that!"

Ukaezai: "You think me defeated so easily?"

Finally, she falls for the last time:

Ukaezai: "No! Not again!"
