The Maulborn face Almalexia's fury
I used the key to search the House Dres farmhouses outside Mournhold. I found a suspicious-looking trap door hidden under a rug. Naryu thinks we'll discover a connection to the Maulborn down there.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Talk to Naryu Virian inside the Mournhold Sewers.
  2. Use Alit Grease to open the door.
  3. Search for Maulborn in the sewers.
  4. Talk to Farona Telvanni in the Mournhold Mages Guild.
  5. Talk to an Ordinator.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Enter the trap door inside the Dres Farmhouse. You and Naryu Virian need to explore the Mournhold Underground, looking for any sign of the Maulborn. Talk to Naryu again inside the sewers. She's worried that the Maulborn might have activated Daedric wards that her organization put in place to avoid detection by the Ordinators. She also tells you that there's a hidden door in the area, and that you'll need to find it to access the rest of the sewers.

There is a stone slab on the east side of the room. Investigate it.

<It appears that the stone slab here might be able to open, if you can find the switch that operates it.>

The lever to the right of the door is supposed to open the it, but the lever is stuck. There are alits wandering around the room, and Naryu gives you a hint as to what you may need to do:

Naryu Virian: "The door won't open? There's got to be something controlling it. Look around a bit. And watch out for those creatures. They're ... ugly."

Kill two of the alits that are wandering around the room and take their grease. Try it on the door.

<The metal connecting this stone lever to its housing is rusted and the lever won't turn. Perhaps if you apply grease to the lever you can get it to turn.>
<Apply alit grease to the rusted housing.>
<Applying the grease did the job. The lever finally turns.>

You have one piece of the puzzle solved, but there are two other levers you need to pull. One is in the little crevice between the two sides of the room, under a grate. The other can be accessed by climbing a ladder. With the levers turned and the hidden door unlocked, enter the Mournhold Sewer.

In the next chamber, Naryu discovers that the wards are indeed active. There are also Maulborn hiding in this area of the sewers. Continue further into the Mournhold Underground to the final chamber, where you discover Farona Telvanni being held prisoner. Maulborn Commander Kalara is here, and she commands her troops to destroy you. Defeat her, and Almalexia appears. She sends Farona to the Mages Guild to have her injuries healed. Head back into the room you came from and follow the water out to the world above.

Farona Telvanni is in the center of the Mages Guild courtyard. She says that the Maulborn kidnapped her and made her activate the wards in the old Tong base. Your next step is to talk to an Ordinator. The closest Ordinator is at the entrance to the city by the Undaunted Enclave. She gives you a reward, but not before telling you that Almalexia requests your presence in the Tribunal Temple.

  • Completing this quest completes the "Mournhold" objective.
  • If you take too long to kill the Maulborn, Almalexia will appear as if you've defeated them and distintegrate them for you.

Quest Stages[edit]

The Mournhold Underground
Finishes Quest Journal Entry
Time to enter the trap door in the Dres farmhouse and see if I can find out what the Maulborn are up to.
Objective: Enter the Trap Door
Naryu and I climbed down into the cellar beneath the Dres farmhouse. She's anxious to find out what's going on down here. I should ask her what she thinks we should do next.
Objective: Follow Naryu
Objective Hint: Talk to Naryu
Something certainly has Naryu concerned. I better follow her down into the sewers.
Objective: Follow Naryu Into the Sewers
Naryu thinks there's a hidden door nearby and wants me to search for it. Apparently, the usually cocky and brave Naryu is afraid of a few alits, so I'm on my own for now.
Objective: Search for the Hidden Door
I found the hidden door that Naryu suggested was down here, but one of the levers that opens it is rusted shut. I need to find some grease to apply to the metal housing if I want to open this door.
Objective: Open the Hidden Door
Objective Hint: Loosen the Stuck Lever
I unlocked the hidden door. I should follow Naryu through the door and meet her on the other side.
Objective: Talk to Naryu
Naryu decided she had to warn her partner, Varon, about the situation down here. She also promised to send the Ordinators to help me. In the meantime, I need to find whoever's responsible for activating the protective wards.
Objective: Find Whoever Activated the Wards
I found a mage bound within one of the underground chambers. Before I could set her free or ask any questions, the Maulborn rushed in. I need to survive this assault if I want to find out what's going on.
Objective: Defeat the Maulborn Assault
Almalexia said she was taking Farona, the Maulborn prisoner, to the Mages Guild to have her wounds tended to. I should go there and find out what she knows.
Objective: Go to the Mages Guild
Farona said that a large number of Maulborn soldiers left the sewers before I got there. She gave Almalexia the same information. She also passed on a message. I'm to find an Ordinator to get additional instructions from the Sacred Lady.
Objective: Talk to an Ordinator
Finishes quest☑ I need to speak to an Ordinator.

  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
