Quest-Related Events[edit]

If you are not on the related quest, she gives you some words of wisdom.

"The history of Skyrim is a perilous one. Never forget that."

If you speak to her while on the related quest, she says:

"The problem with searching for the truth is sometimes you find it. We're too quick to dismiss our old legends as colorful superstition. They're meant to be warnings. We should listen to them."
Hidaver said you could tell me about the Shademother.
"She found someone? I didn't think there was anyone left in Solitude who won't flinch at the merest suggestion of magic. Fighting the Shademother won't be as simple as slaying your typical hagraven, if there is such a thing. She's far more powerful."
Can you tell me anything that'll help me defeat her?
"According to the legends, her mastery of life and death is absolute. She bends nature to her will and she feasts on the land itself to sustain her power. The clever woman I consulted said that the Shademother's magic is akin to necromancy."
Clever woman?
"Sorry, it's a bit archaic. A Nord mage who follows the old ways. Old Mjolen is a bit of a legend herself in these parts. She was the one who created the cleansing mixture you were given to purify the Shademother's corruption."
I'll put it to good use.
Do you mean Old Mjolen?
"Oh, you've heard of her? I suppose she is something of a legend of her own right. Nords who dabble in the old ways are a dying breed. She made the cleansing mixture you were given to purify the Shademother's corruption. I trust it'll do as she says."
I'll put it to good use.

If you speak to her again at this point, she'll say:

"The sagas of Skyrim are our histories. People tend to forget that simply because they're more lively than dry, old Imperial texts."

After defeating the Shademother:

"Things like the Shademother make me hope that my next subject for research turns out to be pure fiction."
