When speaking with him before completing Western Skyrim's story quests, he will say:

"My neighbor, Trubin … he attacked me! Like a ravenous beast he was!"

If he is talked to during Danger in the Holds he instead can say:

"What god did we anger to deserve this terrible fate? That storm … it was angry, I tell you, angry!"

After completing Danger in the Holds, he'll say:

"I was born here and I'm going to die here. Hopefully a good long time from now, but I'm not leaving just because a little trouble came our way."
