Feathermoth

Feathermoth is a High Elf member of the House of Reveries in Rellenthil.

He can be found keeping company with Clever and Firebird, in the midst of a talent challenge, in two places: across the street from Wondrous Weavings in Canonreeve Farmeldo's side yard; or on the terrace on the west side of the Manor of Masques.

He cannot be interacted with and cannot be spoken to until during the quest, Manor of Masques.

Quest-Related Events[edit]

At the point of the quest, Manor of Masques, after you've auditioned for Alchemy, Feathermoth and his two companions will have left both initial locations. It won't be until after you've talked to Clever that you'll find him again, in the Dance Studio on the second floor of the Manor of Masques. If you are not wearing your mask:

"Where is your mask, Hopeful? If you wish to join the House of Reveries, you must first respect it. You have come to play the Game of Boasts, no doubt. Very well, we will perform together."

If you are wearing your mask:

"You must know we are competing for the same post. Let me be clear, then, in stating that I do not intend to fail my audition. I will join the House of Reveries. It is my destiny!
Still, collaboration never hurts. Care to play the game?"
We'll perform together. What did you have in mind?
"Even the most captivating of dances cannot entice an audience without the rhythm of a drum. The soothing sound of drum beats is primal, a reminder of our deepest selves. Yet I cannot drum and dance at the same time, so why not collaborate?"
All right. What do I need to do?
"Take this drum. Three rhythm sections lie before you: fast, medium, and slow. I will move through the dances I know and you will match my speed on the drum.
Match my speed, and we shall impress. Drum too fast or too slow, and we start over."
All right, I'll drum for your performance.

As you play the various drums he'll say:

Feathermoth "Let's begin!"
Feathermoth "And we transition."
Feathermoth "And again. Keep time!"
Feathermoth "Our performance aligns! Impressive. Come, speak."

However, if you play the wrong rhythm, he'll admonish you with:

Feathermoth "No, no, that won't do. Let us begin again. Observe my movements and match my speed," then start again with "Let's begin!"

Once you have successfully helped him, Feathermoth will answer some questions:

"Your rhythm could use refinement, but I salute your determination. May the best performer join the House of Reveries and become a great name!
And now, to my question. Who trained you?"
I trained with the Dragon Priests at the Throat of the World.
"Dragon Priests! I will admit, that's a good story. You've a honeyed tongue and a claim to training that will impress the average rube.
All right, fair's fair. You may ask me one question in return. What do you wish to know?"
I learned juggling from King Fahara'jad himself. He has a few hobbies.
"I have heard many tales of this Redguard high king, yet talk of his hobbies, I'll admit, come few and far between. Very amusing, friend.
Now, to your question. What would you ask of the best dancer on Summerset?"
No one trained me. I've emerged from the womb already juggling knives.
"Ha! That is quite the image, I'll admit. A more amusing tale than I've heard from others, and for that, I offer my admiration.
Now, what would you know of the greatest dancer on Summerset? What question do you have for me?"

If you exited the conversation, he'll have some extra lines before you can continue:

"It's now your turn to ask me a question. What do you wish to know?"
Do you have a sister?
"Aye, two siblings, though only one is a sister. Jone and Jode are my twins, and on the nights when the shadow covers the moon, we dance together in the sky above. The thunder you hear on a stormy night? That's us, dancing across the clouds."
That's quite the boast.
"You think so? I've been practicing my acting skills as well, you know! One never knows what performance he'll have to do next.
These days are a far cry from what I was doing. I still have burns from failed fire spells, you know."
You were a mage?
"I'd rather not speak of it. The stage is where I belong, and where I finally am! My past is in the past, and there it shall remain.
Thank you for performing with me. Should we both be accepted, I'm glad to know I'll be in fine company."
Good luck with your audition. And here's your drum back.

If you choose to let Rinyde unmask the hopefuls, he'll be huddled against the crossover wall with Firebird and Clever, but he will only mutter:

"I … I'll have to petition the Grand Maestro! Yes, I must. There's no reason this should disqualify us from being selected. No reason at all!"

If you choose to let Rinyde unmask you, he'll stand against the wall with the others and say:

"I don't really understand, but … did you just save us from being unmasked? I can't believe you would sacrifice yourself like that. My friend, thank you!"

Dialogue[edit]

You can also meet Feathermoth at the House of Reveries camp near Farmer's Nook in Blackwood if you completed Manor of Masques. Otherwise he will not be present and replaced by Moonlight. He will remember you if you met in Summerset:

"My rival returns! Do you seek to pit your dancing skills against mine once again? Or have you simply come for the beautiful scenery?"
How have you been, Feathermoth?
"Quite well, thank you. The work of a master dancer never ends, and I hope this sojourn abroad will expose me to dances I've never encountered in Summerset. Did you know the Reachfolk have a complicated ritual dance that goes back centuries?"
You hope to learn the Reachfolk's dance?
"Well that would be grand, wouldn't it? Unfortunately, Alchemy believes that any overtures would be met with harsh words at best and unsheathed weapons at worst. Still, I hold out hope that I'll learn something new during our travels."
