Quest-Related Events[edit]

If you speak to him when not on any of the related quests, he'll say:

"Unless we've got business, I've got no more time to talk. I'm not a rich man and I've got work to do."

After you have completed a quest, you can ask him some questions.

What do you need the map pieces for?
"I'd tell you to mind your business, but you've done me a good turn.
I wasn't always such an upstanding citizen. I got involved with some unscrupulous things around Port Hunding. It caught up with me and I found myself on Amenos soon enough."
What does that have to do with the map fragments?
"I befriended another exile from Hammerfell. An old pirate who captained the Scourge of Sentinel. He terrorized the crown for years before disappearing. He told me he split up a map of his treasure among his crew, but they never claimed it."
So now you're trying to find it?
"The old pirate gave me his fragment before he passed to the Far Shores and told me the rest of his crew were still in the Systres, so I tried to track them down. None of them seem to still be alive, but following their trails seem to have paid off."
Need me to find the other map fragments?
"I already hired some others to track down the remaining fragments. I'm not willing to double deal behind their backs, but if you happen across any other fragments in your travel before they do, then that's just their bad luck. Fair?"

Otherwise, his dialogue greeting depends on which of the three map fragment quests you are currently on:

Found first map fragment:

"I've no time for pleasantries. I'm up to my ears in cargo manifests. You have some business with me?"

Found Second Map Fragment:

"Didn't expect I'd see you again. Don't tell me you found another piece of my map."

Found Third Map Fragment:

"Well, if you're back again I suppose there's only one reason. What'd you find this time?"

Balki's Map Fragment[edit]

I found this map piece near Balki's body.
"Body? I'm sorry to hear that. He was never very sneaky. Always stumbling around in the dark. His night vision was horrible, unusual for a Khajiit."
You expected him to die?
"Expected? No, I'm just not very surprised. I warned him there was risk, but he was eager and needed the work.
Looks like you'll be collecting instead. I'll gladly pay you for his piece of the map."
You have a deal. Here you go.

Returning and leaving the conversation at this point:

"That map fragment you found is worth a fair bit of gold to me. I assume you brought it to me for the reward."
Here's the map fragment.
"Sure enough. This is definitely one of the map fragments I've been looking for. Balki actually managed to find it, to his credit. Shame he couldn't claim the reward.
Well, you finished what he couldn't, so here you go. Thanks again."

Ferone's Map Fragment[edit]

I found this piece of a map on Ferone's body.
"Ferone's dead? I can hardly believe it. That Dark Elf was a seasoned marine for the Pact once. Guess the wilds are growing more treacherous ….
Glad you were more fortunate. I'll take that fragment off your hands for a fair sum."
You have a deal. Take it.

Leaving and returning to conversation:

"That map fragment you found is worth a fair bit of gold to me. I assume you brought it to me for the reward."
Here's the map fragment.
"This is exactly what I was hoping Ferone'd find. I didn't expect it would cost her life. That's just how it is out in the Systres. Fickle as the sea.
The map's appreciated. Make good use of the reward before misfortune finds you too."

Rhadh's Map Fragment[edit]

A note on Rhadh's body led me to this piece of a map.
"He was one of the most capable people I knew. I wouldn't have trusted just anyone … but you actually did it. I owe you for that.
I'll take that map fragment off your hands. For a reward, of course."
Deal. Here you go.

Leaving and returning to conversation:

"That map fragment you found is worth a fair bit of gold to me. I assume you brought it to me for the reward."
Here's the map fragment.
"This is definitely the fragment I was looking for. At least Rhadh's death wasn't for nothing. I was hoping to share in the reward with him once I had them all together. Damn shame ….
But that's not of concern to you. Here's the gold I owed him."

The Long Way Home[edit]

If you exit out of the conversation and approach him again, he will call out:

"I can use your help for one last thing."

After you have helped him retrieve the three map fragments, he will open up to you and ask for your help:

"I finally have every piece of the Scourge of Sentinel's map, but everyone I sent to collect them died. Except you. I guess that means you're the only one who's capable of finishing the job. Interested in a partnership?"
What do you mean by a partnership?
"This treasure is important to me, but not so important that I want to wind up like the others who were helping me chase it. My years of cheating death are far behind me. I need someone to follow this map and recover the treasure for me."
You aren't afraid I'd just run off with it?
"This treasure isn't riches, but it is my ticket back to Hammerfell. I'm willing to pay you a hefty sum of gold for that passage.
So what do you say? Partners?"
Partners then.

He will then stand up and piece the map together:

Captain Eshmadin: "Let's piece it together and see what we've got."
Captain Eshmadin: "I recognize this spot. Shipwreck Shoals. I think that's where the old man said the Scourge ran aground."
Captain Eshmadin: "They must have buried the loot nearby. Take the map to Shipwreck Shoals and see if you can find the spot."

Once you agree to help, you can ask some questions:

"Be careful around Shipwreck Shoals. It's more dangerous to boats than people, but I hear hadolids come to pick over the wrecks for fresh, uh, meat.
Hopefully that map will make quick work of claiming the Scourge's bounty."
What more can you tell me about the treasure?
"The old pirate claimed to have taken a number of trophies from his raids around Sentinel's shores. Items chosen to insult the crown, not for their monetary worth. He said if I returned those to King Fahara'jad I might be pardoned from my exile."

When you have retrieved the Scourge of Sentinel's Treasure, you can return to Captain Eshmadin:

"I was beginning to associate seeing you with bad news. I hope we've broken that streak now."
I found the Scourge of Sentinel's treasure.
"Hah! Finally, I can bribe my way back into the good graces of the crown and retire in my place of birth. Thought I'd never see the day.
Here's your share, partner."

After completing the quest, you can ask some more questions:

"I can finally say goodbye to the Systres and to slaving over cargo shipments for the Duforts. It's off to the hot winds of Hammerfell for me."
How did you get exiled from Hammerfell?
"I was born of noble blood and ruffian tastes. When my days of piracy ended in capture by the authorities. My family pleaded for clemency, so I was spared imprisonment along with my peers, but only if I never returned home. Even after I mended ways."
What will you do when you get back?
"Strip nude and bake all this cold brine off in the Alik'r Desert. After that, take the money I've banked all these years with the Duforts and lead a quiet life in Bergama. Maybe see if my remaining relatives will welcome me back into the family."
