RPG elements and notes[edit]

Should RPG suggestions be made in walkthrough as notes? Is it valid to add suggestions for role-players? Role-players can choose actions that seem in character, for this one it seemed right to complete the contract properly (even though the quest can be completed without killing all the trolls), and retrieving at least Vilanus' sword was appropriate to return to his mother. hmmmm... --MacFodder 06:16, 22 February 2007 (EST)

agreed. I thought the same thing reading this page. Lalanas 20:34, 19 March 2007 (EDT)
also, some of the wording is a bit...uh...wordy and not really useful beyond being flowery. should that be trimmed down as well? Lalanas 19:32, 20 March 2007 (EDT)
You both got my blessings, I totally agree. There is a page for role-players. A walkthrough should be simple and detailed with useful details. As for the notes, they should encompass points of interests, hidden secrets (if any) and tips. --Vartan 19:39, 20 March 2007 (EDT)
In that regard I edited a note with the caveat "If your into roleplaying...". Grandmaster z0b 19:52, 20 March 2007 (EDT)
Yeah good idea, why not have a separate column on quest pages, with some green background. It'd be entitled "If you're into roleplaying..." and then it'd give a list of the things you would want to do? I'm just throwing that out, I'm not skilled using Wikipedia so I'll let others decide :p --Vartan 19:55, 20 March 2007 (EDT)

() The RPG suggestion is completly out of place on this page.... Put those comments on a roleplaying page, and not quest tips, especially since it is not commonplace on walkthroughs.... 24.149.23.119 13:10, 30 March 2007 (EDT)

The notes section in Oblivion:Trolls of Forsaken Mine and Oblivion:Forsaken Mine provide contrasting information about whether the corpses will appear before the quest or not. Ankoch 21:14, 15 June 2008 (EDT)

All the bodies are missing![edit]

I went into this mine and all the NPC's were missing, only Viranus's body was there. So I missed out on some great loot. Anybody else have this situation? TheOtherZack 68.26.248.205 21:32, 1 December 2008 (EST)

I am having the same problem actually, no bodies, trolls..anything, just rats..I did find Viranus though and retrieved the journal...but it doesn't feel complete without hacking some trolls away =/ Pra3t0r 0f R0m3 21:40, 2 January 2009 (EST)
I had the same problem, no bodies except Viranus Donton. I had entered the mine earlier before I got this quest, and killed all the trolls, and - as expected - found no dead members of the fighters guild. Closer examination with the Construction Set revealed, that all the dead bodies are initially present, but as disabled NPCs. These NPCs will not respawn during cell reset like the leveled savage trolls, and are removed like any other dead body, when the mine is repopulated with nuisance creatures and the chests are refilled.
It is possible to check the condition of the mine with the console commands prid 3B30C and enable, which will do the same as the script at Stage 10 of Quest FGD06 (FGD06DeadFGREF.Enable). If the bodies are still present, they will slowly appear (magically before your eyes, if you are there), if not, only large boodstains will appear, because these are static objects, also initially disabled. This depends on the amount of time passed after first entry into the mine.
This may be considered a bug, however it would be better, if the cave is considered locked until the quest starts, because there is no reason for a dead Viranus, if there are no trolls. I have not checked, if it is even possible, to kill or remove all trolls just by entering the mine zones shortly and waiting for later reset.
Done with German Oblivion retail version, Shivering Isles retail installed, last official Bethesda patch 1.2.0416 applied, DARNnified UI and Raymunds Patches (German translations and UOP). Results unchanged with patches removed.

Rewording[edit]

"The audio and subtitle are both incorrect."

Both cant be wrong. They might not match up, but they cant both be wrong. Anyone know what it meant? If they dont match up, then both lines need to be stated.--Catmaniac66 17:42, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes, they can. If they both state, "Blackheart Company", they're both wrong, since it should be "Blackwood Company". --GKtalk2me 18:41, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
Chalk that one up to me being and idiot and not reading carefully, thanks for the response.--Catmaniac66 18:46, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Moved note.[edit]

  • It is possible to skip the dungeon crawl if you have access to a Command Humanoid spell. Simply lead Viranus Donton up to Modryn Oreyn before you receive the quest. After Modryn gives you the quest, Viranus will drop dead right in front of you, complete with the journal. You simply need to take the journal and report back to Modryn, who happens to be right in front of you.

It just don't seem possible to me. Any other people wish to try it , they can due to my Xbox breaking =( JackTurbo95 15:25, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

No, I don't think it is either. You can certainly use a Command spell to bring him to Modryn but as soon as you get the quest update, Viranus is killed and moved to the right spot inside the mine. You wouldn't be able to access his inventory before he disappeared. rpeh •TCE 16:50, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
I was going to try it , but I won't now! JackTurbo95 18:17, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Can't start it because I can't find Oreyn[edit]

Weird problem. After doing fugitives and wandering scholar, I can't find Oreyn to start this.

This is actually on my little cousins xbox, so console commands are a no-go.

any fixes? Oblivion nerd 20:09, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Is this bug really a bug?[edit]

In the bug section it currently says "When reporting back with the journal, Modryn Oreyn will comment " I should have known the Blackheart Company was involved." The audio and subtitle are both incorrect, as obviously the group in question is called the Blackwood Company."

I am not certain, but I think it is possible that calling them the "blackheart company" was intentional as the Blackwood company has a history of evil deeds. When a person commits evil deeds it may be said that they have a "black heart". — Unsigned comment by 72.205.22.218 (talk) at 14:01 on September 2, 2011

The bug is that Modryn is mangling together "Azani Blackheart" and the "Blackwood Company" into "Blackheart Company". It's definitely a bug. Kitkat1749 TalkContribE-mail 19:34, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
I agree. It is a simple recording error on the part of the recorder/dev. --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 05:19, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Quest update[edit]

I went in and found all the bodies and took the journal and all that fun stuff but my quest never updated. Went back to Oreyn and he says i didn't do it yet even though I have the journal. How can I fix this? — Unsigned comment by 67.248.93.156 (talk) at 19:01 on 2 June 2012

Avoiding the Azzan questline breaking bug Xbox 360[edit]

Extremely late to the party, but I've been playing the game again and ran into the bug where Azzan will not demote you after this quest.

I tried it three times. The first time I went to Burz first, and Azzan would not give me the Stone of St Alessia quest. Second time, I went to Azzan first, thinking that Burz was the one that was bugged, but the same result.

The third time, I got him to give me the next quest, and I'm posting this under this quest because IT IS VERY IMPORTANT if playing on xbox 360 that you are the rank of Champion BEFORE you do this quest. You can get it from Oreyn at the rank of Warder, but you will break the Fighter's Guild questline and be unable to complete it. After completing the Fugitives and the Wandering Scholar, you MUST ask Azzan for advancement BEFORE speaking with Oreyn.

I know this is a very common bug, so I just wanted to share this, however late, as breaking the questline at this late stage in the guild is nothing if not frustrating

tl;dr YOU MUST be the rank of Champion BEFORE accepting this quest from Oreyn, or you will break the Fighter's Guild questline completely on xbox 360 — Unsigned comment by 82.25.121.138 (talk) at 20:33 on 5 July 2018
