Strange Occurence

I failed the quest, yet cannot talk to the grey fox. He only says: "If you don't have the scroll we can't talk." — Unsigned comment by 75.72.100.129 (talk) on 29 December 2009

Are you not just better off reloading an earlier savegame (since you failed the quest)? --Timenn-<talk> 15:18, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Keeping the Boots of Springheel Jak

Before jumping down the chute I quicksaved, just in case I didn't make the fall. My acrobatics is 70, but when I fell I perished. I think this is due to a glitch in the original PC game where unless you jump, your acrobatics level doesn't help your fall. Alternatively, I found that if I hit the menu just as my health bar depleted from impact and drank restore health potions, my character survived the fall without the boots. Can someone please verify this? It may be a big help to put as an easy alternative in the main article. Chutney of the Black Marsh 11:11, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

If you do this, you will experience visual problems, such as an invisible body. Stirksailor 08:21, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
I didn't encounter this problem, but thank-you for looking into it though.— Unsigned comment by Chutney of the Black Marsh (talkcontribs) on 24 January 2010

I did this, although I added the hellride spell into the mix, and I didn't suffer any visual glitches. Darkbelow 13:53, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

How do you Get the Elder Scroll after being caught?

For some reason my game bugged out and won't let me reload my previous save while I was doing "The Ultimate Heist" mission. Anyway, I've been caught by the Monks in the room that you get the Elder scroll. How can you obtain the elder scroll after being caught? Why does Oblivion have SO many bugs that constantly keep you from enjoying it? It would be a great game if it worked a little better

There is a workaround by using the console. Go to the 1st part of the Old Way map, on the spot it says "Imperial Battlemage's Chambers". Then enter the console (~ key) and write "tcl". This disables clipping and gravity. Now start "walking" upstairs. The graphics will probably look weird cause you ll go outside that little corridor but it's not a problem. At the end of it there is a trapdoor you can use. Click on it and you 'll be on Battlemage's room. Then walk a little bit into the air, reenable console and write "tcl" again to make the game behave normally. 80.240.17.168 19:35, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Rare Items

In the book guide to the imperial city by Alessia Ottus the is reference to rare and unique armours in the imperial palace. I have looked everywhere and there is no rare armours and no rare items either (except for some rare books in the library and in Ocato's bedroom). Do they even exist or is it purely fictional? — Unsigned comment by 82.132.248.165 (talk) at 11:30 on 10 January 2010 (UTC)

The only reference to rare armors in that book is this:
"though you may marvel at their curious ancient armors, you will soon want be away from the rude and discourteous Imperial Guards".
Referring to the armor worn by the palace guard which cannot be worn by the player.--RhomphaiaTC 11:30, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Exactly where to aim for arrow of extraction.

when you step on the platform and look at the keyhole, you will see two pillars that are between the stairs, at the top it looks like |_| at the top of both pillars, use both the _ as one line and than the second line will be a veritcal line, that passes through the keyhole. aim there, and you should get it, if you aim at the hilt of the sword, you always miss. Mikeyboy52 09:23, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Isn't the arc of the arrow somewhat dependant on your marksman skill? I haven't played Oblivion in ages but I seem to remember reading this somewhere. -Itachi 11:51, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
The arc of the arrow certainly is dependent on marksman skill. I have a craptastic marksman skill (approximately 30?) and it is impossible for my arrows to reach the statue AT ALL. No matter where I aim. :-( Arrows don't even make it half way across the hall towards the keyhole pillar.
Negative. According to the page for the Marksman skill, the trajectory of the arrow is predetermined, meaning that no matter what level your Marksman skill is, the arrow will still travel on the exact same path if the bow is fully drawn and you haven't moved the crosshair. Also, I just tried aiming at the spot Mikeyboy52 suggested and it worked the first time. — Unsigned comment by Umbringen (talkcontribs) at 23:07 on 28 August 2010

Moved from article

  • On PlayStation There is one fix, Talk to Simplicia the Slow, when you've talked about all the subjects, up her disposition by bribe or speechcraft to maxiumum and ask her about the Temple of the Ancestor Moths, the first part that wouldn't activate is now skipped, and the quest is now completeable. You will find her in the Imperial City, most likely up the side ally of the Merchant's Inn. You will recieve a Journal Upadate notification.

Can anybody confirm this? Seems pretty complicated, and probably unnecessary. --Mptrj - - 01:04, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

It is probably not true, because 1) Simplicia lives in the Imperial City, not in Bruma where the Turning a Blind Eye quest starts and 2) The topic "Temple of the Ancestor Moths" is only attributed to the monks in the Temple and probably the Gray Fox (it's been a long time since I did that quest). Also, none of the Gray Fox's quests require you to speak with any beggar, only Armand's and S'krivva's do. --S'drassa T2M 01:11, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Those were pretty much my thoughts exactly, my guess is that the editor did these things and got the quest to work but never had the glitch in the first place. I suppose I'll keep it here in case somebody claims to have had a similar experience. --Mptrj - - 01:30, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

cannot start the Ultimate Heist.

after commpleting the quest befor heist. i cant start it. iv waited for 2 weeks. and fenced of 2000. and still no responce to the quest.

Possibly you need to get the Fathis Fix (See http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2106 ). I did not get the quest (and could not fence to Fathis Ules) before I installed that mod.
I had the same problem - I couldn't get the heist to start for the life of me. I even tried waiting in the imperial city for a few days (a couple hours real time) to see if Amusei would come along, and he didn't. Then I figured out a solution that seems to work well. Get arrested in the imperial city and pay the fine. I tried this twice, and twice Amusei was waiting for me when I got released. It's worth a shot! Aepiphid 21:39, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Well i had to go back before i turned in the boots for the quest before and pay the blood price so that the gray fox will tell you some more information and i tryed that link above and did not work fo me...sry

I've just shot the arrow and made it to the palace, but i got caught. And now i cant open the door under the statue (where you shoot the key arrow) without a key and i didnt save. Is this mission now a "no go"??? Because if it is, then that sucks!!

i had the same problem with not starting the quest but i can fence to the dude in imperial city, normaly i get the quest update saying someone should give me a message from the gray fox and wait like 2 hours and they appear and i get quest, but ive waited 3 days and still nothing, could it be because i was in the mages guild but got kicked out cuz i killed the dude for the arrow head key and didnt complete the quest to get back in the guild yet?

Thevies Guild Ultimate Heist Glitch

Discussion moved from Oblivion:Glitches/Proposed

when doing the ultimate hest quest i made inside the door (the door you have to go in after you use the arrow of extraction) to steal the scroll but died and loaded up my last save before i went into the door, now the door is saying its locked and i need a key — Unsigned comment by 99.26.176.98 (talk) at 05:17 on 14 March 2010

Why hasn't anyone answered this with a fix? I'm on Xbox 360 and I have no previous saves. It's all because I decided to leave in the middle of the quest by reading about the Ayleid Guardians on here and acquired the skull of corruption. Now there is no foreseeble way to enter into that door. (it's the one after you fire the arrow of extrication before entering the Imperial Guard Quarters) The Ayleid Guardians, too. I'm completely visible but they aren't moving. Spells, fists, arrows, swords, etc. go straight through them. The door is locked. More to add: No, you cannot use the chute and paintbrushes plus fortify acrobatics spells past 700 to get through to the imperial battlemage's chambers (exit). There is a wooden door that blocks the way. On Xbox 360, clothes with fortify acrobatics and spells of the same nature did allow me to clip out of the dungeon you're dropped in; but that grate exit is not clickable either, even though it reads "Imperial Battlemage Chambers". It is above the wooden door that blocks the way in the chute, and I somehow managed to stand on top of that door when I noticed the grate. You can click, it will not open. This is a quest-ending glitch with no possible solution, I'm sure.72.181.109.170 22:44, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, but I'm not entirely sure how that's happened. You should check some other guides if you haven't already Yoblivio 14:24, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Ran into a bug

Haven't seen this covered so I thought I'd throw it out there. I was at the section where you've got to fir the Arrow of Extrication though the keyhole and after many attempta began to wonder whether I'd run into a glitch. Now, I've completed this quest before so I knew how it should run and what had to be done so there was no fault on my part. After I'd rested, however, I completed it on the first shot. Thought I'd add this in case there were any hopeless searchers in a similar situation and to see if anybody could shed some light on how this came about.

Im on pc and have run in to the same glitch, ecpt i zoned out and came back. are there any codes for pc that will get me past this door?

The Lost Catacombs Iron Gate

Im in the lost catacombs and ive pushed the blue blocks but the iron gate will not open! ive pushed only the left, only the right, the left then right and the right then left and nothing has happened.

Some players have experienced a bug at the end of the Lost Catacombs where activating the blue push blocks does not open the iron gate. To work around it, save your game, exit Oblivion, then start the program again. Load the game, and try activating the blocks - this time the gate should open.

^tried that a bunch of times and not working for me, neither is clearing my cache. any advice? thanks !

Having the same problem, looking at the wonky script used for activating the iron gate, I'm surprised it worked for anyone, ever. --96.54.228.29 20:51, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Return to the cave in a weeks time. I'm guessing the whole cave resets itself and all the monsters respawn. Try that it should work. — Unsigned comment by Yoblivio (talkcontribs) at 14:25 on 13 August 2010

I think I locked myself in to something.

I was going the quest, The Ultimate Heist, and I was heading to the room with the door thing you have to unlock with the arrow, and before I did, I found a lever and clicked it and ran through a door. I think I locked my self in, and they are both doors operated with a lever or twisty thing. D: I'm freaking stuck! Dx and the last place I saved was when I was a level 18. :( — Unsigned comment by 69.27.53.75 (talk) on 22 March 2010

Are you playing on the PC? If you are, you can pass through the doors using the tcl console command. Darkdoom227 00:36, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

I think I screwed up big time

What do I do when the monks recognize me, I didn't get the Elder Scroll, and I can't go back in the way I came. What should I do? The Grey Fox doesn't say anything about failing. Is there still another way?

No there isn't. An earlier save is really the only way to go.--Corevette789 00:08, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Armour

What armour were those palace people wearing? If I could loot it I will KILL MYSELF. I know the regular armour is unlootable but what about these's guys armour? I always wanted their armour. I assumed it was the same stuff so I didn't bother to loot them but I checked the Guard Armour section and it listed it separately. Help! Golden Eagle 20:26, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

No, I attempted it, and their armour cannot be looted. Yoblivio 14:26, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

KotN on 360

(moved from the article)

You may need to start at a save that is prior to entering the library. I was able to use an autosave (there are none after you enter the sewers, so you'll get sent back a ways) from sleeping in the Hall of Epoch after deleting KotN, then re-entered the library. This triggered the cutscene where I actually received the scroll and was able to complete the quest (but lost all KotN content I had already done).

Moved for 1st person usage. I can't understand exactly what it's trying to say so I can't reword it. rpeh •TCE 14:55, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Stranger unconcious

Ok so i just was gonna get done with the quest, so while countess umbranox and stranger were haveing the discussion, I put a little hood that does 5 fire damgage self by reverse pickpoketing. now since it does damage when he wakes up from the unconciousness he doesnt talk to the countess. is there a way i can get the hood out of him? my best bet is to probaly create another hood that has better enchantments and see if he wheres that hood and then i can pikepocket him to get the hood that does damage to him/— Unsigned comment by 98.117.114.87 (talk) at 05:18 on 15 May 2010

That would indeed be your best bet, or you can reload a previous save. Next time, it would be wiser to refrain from doing such things. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions 09:15, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Additional Note for Lost Amusei in the Ultimate Heist

Discussion moved from User talk:Daveh#Additional Note for Lost Amusei in the Ultimate Heist

I had all but given up on actually finishing the Thieves Guild Quest line when I was leading a Nether Lich out of Nerastarel's House to the guards for grins and it just happened to run into Summitmist Manor. With the doors being locked from the outside due to the quest attached to this place, in the huge crowd of townspeople right inside the door was also the long lost Amusei telling me about The Ultimate Heist. Can u please add a note to the Ultimate Heist page about this last place to check before giving up on receiving the gray cowl, this was really very frustrating. Just trying to help. Thanks — Unsigned comment by 68.187.35.231 (talk) at 15:45 on 30 May 2010

Summitmist Manor is a problem for this sort of thing, and there's already a note on the Whodunit? page about that, which is probably the best place for it. Robin HoodTalk 16:20, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Doors blocking platform won't open

So I'm in the hall of ephoch or whatever and I hit the block that opens the secret door, then I go on and hit the block that's "supposed" to open the doors blocking the platform. I go back to the main room and the doors are still closed and I can't get on the platform to shoot the arrow! I've done it twice. I thought, maybe, I was missing something, but when I looked on the walkthrough, it said to do exactly what I've been doing. Help?

Use regular arrows first, you'll hear a certain sound when you've aimed just right, aim right below where the | and the - meet. MikeTalk 02:56, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
What? This is not what the first poster asked. I am also having the same trouble - the same trouble as the first poster is, that is, not whatever Mikeyboy52 is talking about. Posted in wrong section, perhaps? :P

I hit the button but the iron gates fail to open, and the walls enclosing the undead won't come down. I have tried this several times. Is there a command I can enter to bypass this, or trigger the script to cause the walls to come down, somehow? This has been asked several times and I suspect that if quitting and reloading Oblivion (which, of course, I've tried, since someone suggested it here) doesn't work, nobody actually has any fixes. I'd sure love to be proven wrong, though; this totally sucks. I even tried noclipping up to the button (since I don't seem to be able to jump up there by any means, even using the Boots of Springheel Jak) - the button works, but I still can't seem to shoot the switch thing. I suspect I've borked the entire script chain somehow. Any advice? 74.36.11.113 17:15, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

I also have the same problem. The walls dont move and gates dont open after hitting the button. Its quite upsetting. Saving and loading didnt work either. Would a new copy of the game work? Hopefully somebody can help us. — Unsigned comment by 72.129.138.38 (talk) at 07:28 on 12 August 2010
I dunno bout you, if you did this, but there's a second button further along, if you jump off the balcony or go down the ramp to the right and continue on for a long while. .... — Unsigned comment by 96.235.45.215 (talk) at 01:21 on 18 August 2010
Im having the same problem. I've tried EVERYTHING and nothing seems to work. I really need a way to get to it i keep trying to jump to it or something but that hasn't worked. Please help! — Unsigned comment by 71.238.151.21 (talk) at 23:33 on 13 September 2010
Same problem apparently. Two of the sections on each of the walls will lower, releasing some undead, but the iron gates don't move, and they are still being blocked by an L shaped section of each wall (the two that haven't lowered). I thought I was missing something at first to lower these last two sections, but I've hit the switch several times and don't see anything else on this wiki page. — Unsigned comment by 24.86.31.96 (talk) at 01:50 on 16 October 2010
Just posted the above, tried the console command for no clipping (~tcl) and walked through the walls. Plate still worked and I opened the door with the arrow, just turned clipping back on after I was through the gate. I was hoping to avoid cheating, but it seems the game is broken right there for me. — Unsigned comment by 24.86.31.96 (talk) at 01:55 on 16 October 2010
Also had this problem. I created a small fix mod (that can be safely disabled after use): http://garfield.dietmonday.com/TG11GateFix.esp (put it in Data, enable it from Data Files (like any mod)). It creates a new switch on the floor near one of the gates 24.111.29.22 19:06, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
Alternatively, you can do what I did and just keep going to and fro between the button and the walls. I had a persistent L-shaped section not going down the first time, but each button press usually makes them all toggle (so the ones that were down go up, and vice versa). That said, a few other wall blocks didn't go down when I finally did get a path to the pressure plate, what a mess!

Ok, I'm glad for the PC users... but I'm playing the 360 version and the walls won't go down!!! Could someone help me? Would changing the disc do any good? I'm stuck, and it's annoying!!!

Same problem. I'm on a 360 version of the game and have pressed the buttons to lower the walls blocking the platform, but no matter how many times I press each button, a couple of the walls in the shape of an L will not lower. It is incredibly frustrating!

Going Back to Independent Thievery

Moved from article: A bug in which it will say you are required to fence 800 gold for Independent Thievery. Even though you should have already fenced at least 800 gold you will be stuck on that quest.

It's not entirely clear to me what this bug report means, but I think it's saying that you could end up going back to Independent Thievery after starting The Ultimate Heist. I haven't heard of this happening, so it may be a one-off or only happen under very limited circumstances. I'm moving it here for now, pending further comment. i've come across a very annoy bug i think that i cant seem to i've gotten into the imperial palace and sat down in the reading chair where the monks are supposed to bring me the scroll. the last time i did this mission i got the scroll within seconds of sitting in the chair, now its been an hour in real time and still no scroll and the monks wont even move, even worse i cant get out of the chair until they give me the scroll so im stuck. i've tried reloading a save but my last saved game was once i sat in the chair and ive reloaded that save 3 times and although two of the monks seem to be in different spots each time i re-load the monk who gives you the scroll is still up the stairs not moving at all according to my life detect. i could reload an auto save but the last auto-save was when i just entered the old way and id rather not go through that whole thing again if i dont have to. has anyone come across this before or know how to fix it? im on the xbox so i cant use console commands. — Unsigned comment by 67.246.49.180 (talk) on July 19 2010

Possible Workaround if Amusei Doesn't Find You

I've found a possible workaround if Amusei doesn't find you. I encountered the bug mentioned on the main article page where Amusei fails to find you, thus leaving you with no way to continue the Ultimate Heist quest. I followed the tips about how to fix this: waiting for 24 hours at the west gate in the Talos Plaza District and going straight to Othrelos' house, neither of which worked. All of this took place after I had given the Honorblade of Chorrol to Fathis Ules. On a hunch, I reloaded a game from before I gave Fathis the sword. I then went back to the Talos Plaza District and waited 24 hours. Sure enough, Amusei found me, and I was able to continue on with the quest. I'm not sure if this fix had to do with Fathis and the sword, or whether it was the mere act of reloading the game from an earlier point. But it worked for me. Anyone else ever tried this? It says on the book's page that it is only found during this quest (without SI) but there is no mention of it on the quest's page. Freezing IN Anvil Castle

When I'm about to finish The Ultimate Heist, the game freezes on me. Crash When Entering Court

I had a crash which seems fairly common, and which I found a solution to. Upon entering the Anvil Court at the end of quest, I couldn't run more than a few feet without crashing to the desktop. Similar problems are described by other players on these pages:

http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=49954
http://boards.ign.com/elder_scrolls/b5312/166640258/p1/?3

I can confirm that this isn't a simple matter of doing quests out of order, as I was Master Thief rank when I had the problems. Based on the second link I posted, I am guessing it has something to do with the clock, either the system clock or the game clock. The issue was resolved for me by quickly exiting the court and running around outside for a while (hitting t and waiting seems to have no effect according to my own experience and hinted at in the second link). When I re-entered the court and approached the countess I didn't crash. Also the first link I provided testifies that crash occurred when using an earlier save on every death. I tested on a save after the quest was completed and didn't crash on death. — Unsigned comment by 70.177.186.164 (talk) at 09:55 on 12 August 2010

Elvish Room

I've gone through made sure everything is dead and I come to the Elvish looking room and I am unable to open the gate in here. I know that I have to use the block switches but they don't seem to work. I've tried all the combos I can but nothing works. I noticed on YouTube on one of the guide videos that when the char clicks on the gate it comes up with "this must be opened remotely". When I try I don't get this message. Is this a bug or have I missed/done something wrong? — Unsigned comment by 81.152.90.188 (talk) on 24 August 2010 (moved from archive 2)

Fix For Inability To Sit In Chair

I found a fix for not being able to sit in the reading chair, when it isn't caused by KoTN. Instead of trying to use the chair, open up the console, select the chair, then type the command 'activate'. Then exit the console, wait for character to sit, then reopen the console and type 'setstage TG11Heist 85' so the quest advances, then close the console. The game should proceed as normal. Could someone please write this up properly in the article? Thanks. — Unsigned comment by 124.182.49.185 (talk) at 15:25 on 3 September 2010

Perhaps you should reload a saving game prior to starting the quest and try it again? If you can't remember what you did we can't really help you work out a solution. --Timenn-<talk> 10:18, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

Going back into the Palace

HELP PLEASE!!! OBLIVION RELATED QUESTION: I went in on the Ultimate Heist and spooked the monks than in a crazed panic escaped ive done alot of other stuff since but i never got the Elder Scroll and i no longer have the Boots Of Springheel Jack is there a way to get back in and get the scroll without starting over? -wya102@yahoo.com— Unsigned comment by 97.88.177.132 (talk) on 29 September 2010

You can try using the floating paint brushes glitch as descibed here, although I'm not really sure if it'll work since technically you've failed the quest. --S'drassa T2M 14:18, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

ok so maybe you need to do the quest before you get the boots because you dont get the boots and and arrow from him you get it at the end of each cave you go through--Thedrunknord 16:34, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

Hall of Epochs: Imperial Guard Quarters door won't open

(I play on PS3) I'm in the hall of epochs and I've made the shot with the arrow and killed the 2 ayleid guardians. The door marked IMPERIAL GUARD QUARTERS won't open. The door is locked and says needs a key. I assumed I must have gotten this key at some point already but when I try to open it, a message appears in the corner saying the lock cannot be picked, it requires a key. I've left and come back several times, reset the system, but it's all the same. i've even pick pocketed a palace guard for his imperial palace key to see if i could use that, but it doesn't work. I think my problem is the same as the 8th post on this list, Theives Guild Ultimate Heist Glitch because that person said they were stuck at the same door as me, and also they mentioned the the ayleid guardians were alive but completly stationary and immune to all forms of attack, which is also true for me. No one had a real answer for that person so i was hoping i could get better answers for myself, as well as them. — Unsigned comment by Beepzta (talkcontribs) on 4 December 2010

The door shouldn't be locked so I don't understand how that's happened. If you're on a console I'm afraid there's nothing I can suggest except to reload an earlier save. rpeh •TCE 12:21, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

The Ultimate Hiest Quest HELP

When I was doing the ultimate hiest quest I accidently talked to the monks and they started to try and kill me. The game just told me to keep going and so I went back and Grey Fox won't talk to me because I don't have the scroll. Is there any fix for this because I play the PS3 version and the only fixes i've seen have been for the PC version! Please help!

You can't do anything now. You have broken the storyline. Load an earlier game and don't talk to the priests. JackTurbo95 12:30, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
