Returning Heirlooms[edit]

Note, the oaken-Hall heirloom can be given back to its rightful owner.

I've moved this note here from the main page, because it contradicts what is stated at Heinrich Oaken-Hull's page. And I don't see any references to this heirloom in the construction set that suggest that the heirloom can be returned. Can anyone provide more details on how exactly this item is supposed to be returned? Is there a topic that shows up with Heinrich allowing you to talk about it? Does he thank you or say anything in exchange? Does he take the heirloom from you? Or are you just saying that you can place the heirloom in his house if you want to? --Nephele 00:49, 17 February 2007 (EST)

I've just been through Oaken-Hull's dialogue in the construction set, I can't find anything regarding giving the heirloom back. I'd say the above statement is wrong. Th232 06:01, 17 February 2007 (EST)

It's possible that whoever wrote that statement was thinking of the Fighter's Guild Quest, "Den of Thieves", in which you can return a stolen flagon to Newheim the Portly. -- Darkle 22:53, 10 September 2007

Gogan and Maelona respawning[edit]

Actually Gogan and Maelona doesn't respawn in Anvil if killed in the farmhouse. They are different NPCs: there is the normal NPCs in Anvil and the guard NPCs in the farmhouse.

New Bug[edit]

I found a bug on this on the 360. I tried talking to the owner of the Flowing Bowl when the two women were there and accidentally picked something up from the bar, I was arrested for stealing. When I went back to the Flowing Bowl, I went through the quest as normal, killed the two women when they attacked, then went to the farm to take care of the third member of the gang at 11 PM, but now I can't get into the farmhouse because it is locked. I think the problem is that I came out here after I was arrested and went inside to wait and when nobody showed up, I went back to the Flowing Bowl, where I found them. So now I am stuck and unable to finish this quest. — Unsigned comment by 69.137.139.157 (talk)

It sounds to me like you've done it in the wrong order. Are you saying you killed the two women in the Flowing Bowl? If so, that's your problem. You need to take all three on inside the Farmhouse. You'll have to reload from an earlier save or use the console. --RpehTCE 12:01, 16 October 2007 (EDT)

Quest stage[edit]

How is the stage obtained wherein Faustina is arrested by the Anvil City Guard? --Merco 13:47, 5 November 2007 (EST)

I wish to know that as well.99.237.166.44 08:10, 3 August 2008 (EDT)
It can't be obtained (except by using the console) as no script ever refers to it. It must have been left over from development. –RpehTCE 06:23, 4 August 2008 (EDT)
  • While we're at it, how can you get the stage where the male player removes his weapons and armor? Is it possible to be approavhed by the gang even if you're not on the quest? --Darkheart 19:31, 26 April 2009 (EDT)
It doesn't look like you can. The stage is only set during "MS04BedSCRIPT", which checks that the player has no clothing on, doesn't have his sword out and that a variable called "undressing" is set to 1. That variable is defined in MS04Script with a comment that says "set to 1 when player agrees to undress", but never appears to be set - unless I've missed something. –RpehTCE 09:40, 30 April 2009 (EDT)

Early Attack bug[edit]

Is there anyway possible to fix that glitch where your character gets attacked by the sirens before you can even talk to them? I'm on the part where you find Signy and Faustina at the Flowing Bowl Inn, I go in and wait a few seconds, and then Signy and Faustina enters, but before Faustina can even tell me that Signy wants to talk to me, Signy pulls out her dagger and starts attacking me. I have tried reloading, using Moonshadow so she can't see me immediately but nothing I do works and she still attacks me the second she detects that i'm there. Is there anyway I can fix this glitch?

This also happened to me, right after I finished the dark brotherhood. I loaded a save before they got there, and it worked normally. But it hasn't happened to any of my characters since..

This bug sometimes occurs due too a high infamy, so maby if you somehow ot rid of your infamy this bugg would not happen. (Sdharly 17:50, 5 April 2010 (UTC))

Oh, crap, I got infamy from doing the Blackwood Co. mod. So THAT'S the trouble! Is there a work around? I would think if anything, they should LIKE you if your infamy is up! Freewaydog 15:23, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
If you have Knights of the Nine installed, do the Pilgrimage, which resets your infamy to 0. rpeh •TCE 13:11, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
Or you could potentially try to raise your fame higher by doing multiple quests. You may just need to have a certain amount of more fame than infamy. Alternatively, you could try yielding to her though that most likely won't work.Obliviongamer 01:16, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Console Glitch[edit]

Yet another glitch: Faustina and the 2nd gang member might show up at the Flowing Bowl even without the player going to jail. If you enter the farmhouse at the right time and yet no one appears, either reload or exit using the console (see below) as you will unfortunately be trapped inside, then look at the Flowing Bowl. Kill Faustina and the 2nd gang member, then go back to the farmhouse to kill the third and meet with the guards.

I've moved this here from the article's bugs section, because I think the problem is just overly liberal use of console commands. In particular, if you choose to exit the Flowing Bowl using a coc command instead of going out the front door as you are supposed to, then you will mess up the quest's scripts. But problems caused by using the console are not bugs, and therefore should not be included in the quest's bugs section. --NepheleTalk 13:48, 16 February 2008 (EST)

Dark Brotherhood[edit]

(moved from the article)
      • Alternatively, it sometimes occurs that you can kill all three women and see the message "Your killing has been observed by forces unknown...." even if you did not increase your Disposition with Signy or Faustina beforehand. The quest can still be completed normally, and you can go to sleep (the fastest would be to take the door to the basement and sleep on a bed there) to trigger the first meeting with Lucien Lachance.

I moved this because not only does it have the weasel word "sometimes", but I'm not sure what it means anyway. It looks as if it's referring to the same thing as is already mentioned on the article (albeit in a non-glitch situation). In any case, I don't think it's necessary on a page unrelated to the Dark Brotherhood. –RpehTCE 11:29, 14 May 2008 (EDT)

If you attack Faustina (I think it's her that first speaks with you when you enter the farmhouse) after the dialog with her ends but before she draws her weapon and attacks you it will count as a murder and the message "Your killing has been observed by forces unknown..." will appear. You will not get a bounty. I think it should go back in the article explained along those lines. Any thoughts? -Kyle 20 May 2008
It would need verification on the bounty point plus can the quest be completed afterwards? I'm still not really sure that it needs to be on here at all though. –RpehTCE 05:08, 21 May 2008 (EDT)

I know that I've done it twice at least. Faustina will yell for help as if it were an assault but she will eventually draw her weapon and attack you with the other two, all the while yelling for help. Once you kill Faustina the message will appear. Gogan and Maelona enter after the girls are dead and explain and give you the reward. I slept in the farmhouse bed and Lucian approaches me with the guards right there. I think it would be beneficial to have it in the "notes" section, as it isn't really relevant to the quest, but still good to know. I think the reason the bounty doesn't show up is because no one sees you attack Faustina. It's just like any other Dark Brotherhood quest. You're only guilty if you're caught. -Kyle 22 May 2008

Can we at least mention that it is a good way to get into the Dark Brotherhood if you haven't already done so? -Kyle 17:35, 30 July 2008 (EDT)

I just had this happen to me. It was on the 360, so obviously no mods were active. I went through the quest as normal, and everything was proceeding properly upon reaching the farmhouse. I confronted the gang, and upon killing them I got the "Your Killing Has Been Observed..." message. I wasn't specifically paying attention to whether I was the one who struck first, but I suppose I must have been. I came here looking for answers, and found this talk page. Really though, I think this information should be on the main page. It seems to have been positively confirmed, and very relevant. 98.235.36.146 13:22, 5 October 2008 (EDT)

Returning.[edit]

Can you give back any of the items you get in the farmhouse? - Lucky the Cat Guy 02:27, 9 August 2008 (EDT)

As it says on the article: "It is not possible to return these items to their original owners, so you are free to keep the items for your own use." –RpehTCE 02:51, 9 August 2008 (EDT)

The victims seem to have no actual dialogue about the items, but from a roleplaying point of view, its certainly possible to leave them in their houses at a conspicuous place. I like to leave em and be undetected by the owners, so I can play 'unknown benefactor'. Just like on Morrowind I liked to leave a diamond or other valuable in a paupers house. --Merari 15:13, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Trapped bug and Shivering Isles[edit]

In PS3, if you have the GOTY Edition and you're playing the game in a language that is not English, you can bypass the bug of being trapped inside the house with no options by changing the console language to English (I play on Spanish), BUT this has a very big problem: when you exit the house, maybe not at the moment, a message will appear stating that a door has appeared on Niben Bay (Shivering Isles entrance). This message appears always at the beginning of the game but if this happens you won't be capable of entering Shivering Isles, if you go to talk to the guy that gives access nothing happens. You can change language again to English but then really weird things could happen. This happened to several people and I don't know if it happens on other platforms. It would be nice if you mention this bug so people know it. It's a pity because this mission can ruin a lot of advances if you don't know it. — Unsigned comment by 88.24.145.36 (talk) at 16:31 on 26 January 2009 (UTC)

I've had the exact same problem of being trapped in the house; however, my current language is English. 67.204.16.6 09:21, 22 April 2010 (UTC)Rachel
I have the PS3 GOTY version too, playing in Spanish and also got the message about Niben Bay, i changed the language to English before arriving at the farm and 11pm, talked to the siren and saved at the start of the battle, reverted to Spanish and i was able to enter the door, just talked to the two npcs in there, a third one came out, after helping killing him and waited for Sheogorath to talk some sentences i was able to enter, i found a room and a dude, talked a little then everything morphed to a different place.
Diary said i entered the Shivering Isles. — Unsigned comment by ElvisTek (talkcontribs) at 23:22 on 25 February 2022 (UTC)

No one is in the house![edit]

When i went in the door locked behind me and i couldnt enter the basement and i was trapped with no1 with me. I am using a ps3 with the shivering isles expansion pack please help!

I had a similar problem on the PS3 GOTY edition. I wonder if it has to do with a Mythic Dawn Agent attack at the flowing bowl. When the agent attacked, Signy ran outside and would not return to the inn. When I went outside though, she did approach me and advanced the quest. Then I went to the farm house, got the stage 50 entry, then waited until after 11pm. The door was unlocked and I went in. At the point, I was locked inside the house with no one around. I tried waiting for 24 hours but no one ever showed up. I loaded an earlier save, went back to the inn after the initial encounter, and waited for varying lengths. It seems Signy and Faustina never leave the inn, thus making it impossible to advance the quest. Since this is the second report, I'm adding an entry to the bugs section. Dbbolton (talk) 12:30, 10 December 2014 (GMT)

Through some trial and error, I discovered that it is still possible to complete the quest. Here's a brief walkthrough:

  • Wait until after 10:00PM and go back to the flowing bowl
  • Faustina will now have the correct dialog, as if she were in the farmhouse
  • Goad her and Signy into attacking you
    • Warning: the guards may consider attacking them a crime. I'm not sure if it's a "bug", or if I accidentally struck someone else in the fight, although I definitely waited until they had gone on the offensive. It's best to just use reflect damage and/or a shield spell and wait for the others in the inn to kill them
  • Go back to the farmhouse, but save before entering just in case
  • Now, the Argonian should be there. Kill her and the quest should advance normally from this point

Hope this helps. Dbbolton (talk) 06:05, 13 December 2014 (GMT)

Sirens of Greek Mythology[edit]

Is it possible that the Sirens were named after the Sirens of Greek Mythology? There are definitely similarities.--Mptrj 04:26, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

True, but the same could be said for minotaurs or any of the other numerous mythological monsters. The fact is that these creatures (and characters designed around their real world mythos) have become so commonplace in video games that it really doesn't warrant a mention any longer. -Dlarsh(Talk,Contribs) 04:37, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

quest stage 110[edit]

the quest stage 110 states that the gaurds take faustina into custody... is there any way to do this?--Arch-Mage Matt 19:25, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Gogan's house[edit]

Correct me if I'm wrong but I couldn't find any time to enter Gogan's house to further this quest without trespassing. A little annoying if you want to avoid your unreported crimes building up/ or for the roleplayers. 123.211.215.199 03:15, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

You can find Gogan wandering outside, around the harbor, between 8pm and 12am. --Timenn-<talk> 16:00, 29 December 2009 (UTC)
Your trespasses count never raises above 0, regardless of how many times you are caught trespassing, unless, of course, you have the UOP.--Darkheart 02:47, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Is it possible to join their gang?

No. --GKtalk2me 02:02, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Isn't there a mod to join their gang, at least if you're female anyway? I heard talk about someone wanting to make one, but it never came through.--Freewaydog 12:56, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
There's this one. I haven't tried it myself but it looks interesting. rpeh •TCE 13:11, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks so much! I will look into it! I also have the Blackwood Company one by the same author, I think. I am doing that one now w/ one of my chars.Freewaydog 12:02, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Should this be mentioned in the page?[edit]

Maelona says at the beginning of the quest that she'll give you 100 gold, even though the gold is actually leveled from 100-600, should this be mentioned on the page? — Unsigned comment by 76.21.230.121 (talk) on 4 August 2010

Good spot. I've added a note about that. rpeh •TCE 06:44, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

What happens if you're a female character?[edit]

What would happen with the quest, since it kind of requires you to be male. 99.61.21.109 03:48, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

As the article says: "if your character is female, they invite you to join their gang". rpeh •TCE 07:49, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
If you are really interested, the differences in dialogue to male and female characters can be found and studied on Faustina Cartia's page. Also, Signy Home-Wrecker has a bit of female-related dialogue. --Krusty 08:26, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

PC console[edit]

On the PC, you can use the command "unlock" on the door to allow access to the farmhouse after the quest is over. In the basement, only the Oaken-Hall Family Jewels box is safe and the sack next to it. The other two containers respawn. 72.70.144.221 02:30, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Moving note[edit]

  • If you are on the PC, do not use Console commands such as coc to exit the Flowing Bowl after talking to Faustina and Signy. You must exit the Flowing Bowl using the front door in order to trigger the subsequent quest update.

Don't leave a building except through a door or bad stuff happens? I dont think a console command that skips the normal progression of things qualifies as important. This kind of note isnt on any other page.--Catmaniac66 05:58, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

I'm re-adding this. Believe it or not, it actually happened to me as well. Any funny script which requires you to leave through a specific door is noteworthy in my opinion. Legoless 11:15, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

Glitch![edit]

As I was doing a fighters guild quest in Fallen rock cave this girl comes up to me and starts fighting all the monsters with me. After, she says that I should be a part of the gang (this girl is Faustina by the way) and tells me to meet her at the farm. I realised she was from the siren's deception quest and go to the farm at 11 as instructed. Then I go in and they're just not there so I waited for a day and I eventually had to use consol commands to get out. Then I read this page, decide to go to the flowing bowl, and talk to them. I'm pretty sure they said what they were supposed to say at the farm, because they started attacking me and everyone joined in. Then after killing the two sirens I got arrested :( but anyway, I go back to the farm and a khajit attacked me so I killed her. Then the two 'guards' come and the rest is history. But... is my game retarded or something!? Does anyone know what happened and why that siren was in a cave near Skingrad? Has it happened to anyone else?

Will it ever end?![edit]

Currently stuck in this quest. Door is locked in the daytime, unlocked after 11pm. If I enter at night (male character) there are still 2 dead bodies - Faustina Cartia and Signy Home-Wrecker, and Gogan is in Anvil Watch Armor. He comments about how sorry he is they had to deceive you, but it does not end the mission. Cannot recall if all three were killed, or just two. Cannot find Tsarrina at Gwenden Farm, The Flowing Bowl, or in the farm's basement.

My journal states: "After entering the farmhouse, I encountered Faustina who tried to entice me to remove my weapons, armor, and clothing and place them aside. Knowing this was a ruse, I refused. She yelled out and the rest of the gang entered the room fully armed and ready for battle. I had no choice but to kill them."

(PS3 player, Two of us are playing this game at home, a male and female character respectively. No problems with the other character completing at all) — Unsigned comment by MMPhishkid (talkcontribs) at 21:14 on 17 April 2012

For whatever reason, it sounds like the quest has become confused and thinks you've completed it already. The only way to fix the problem on a PS3 that I can think of is to reload from before you left Anvil for the house and try again. Robin Hoodtalk 08:57, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Different names for the Flowing Bowl[edit]

The Flowing bowl has different capitalisations, i.e, the article has The Flowing Bowl or the Flowing Bowl. Corrections would make the article look cleaner. 87.232.63.101 16:16, 2 November 2012 (GMT)

Correct, but your implementation was flawed. I am re-correcting this to match the usage in the article, The Flowing Bowl, which is the correct usage. The name of the inn is "The Flowing Bowl", not "Flowing Bowl", therefore the "The" is properly capitalised. 12.233.147.42 01:52, 14 March 2014 (GMT)
