Starting the quest[edit]

I'm pretty sure you don't need to kill a vampire in order to be approached by the Order, but I don't know what triggers it otherwise. I triggered it when I loaded an older save game while in the Temple District at night (she approached me from behind and just started talking to me... gaaahh!). It could have something to do with fame rating (mine was at 33 for that save), or just random chance? -- Zoogie 10:07, 4 April 2006 (EDT)

that's funny, I thought it was almost directly tied to it. I had cleared a whole cave of vampires, fame 30, infamy 7, when as soon as I entered the Temple Distrct, she walked up to me.

I was approached when in the middle of the quest for entering the theives guild having killed no vampires yet.

I took the liberty of changing the first paragraph so it now states that fame=5 is the requirement. One justification for that is the description in the official game guide. Furthermore, I went through my old saved games (covering three different characters) and in all cases, they were able to start this quest once fame reached 5. Two of those characters had not yet killed any vampires at that point. Also, I removed the statement that you need to sleep in the Temple District -- my characters have always just been walking through the district, and have never slept there. However, I did also come across an exception to fame=5. One of my characters was first approached by Ralsa at fame=3. It happened to be shortly after buying the waterfront shack, but I was unable to reproduce events by going back and buying the shack again. I've checked the CS script and you are right. The correct requirement is Fame 5 or greater. Had the character with fame 3 started the Canvas the Castle quest? I suspect he had, as there is an error in the quest script that Ralsa will approach you if you have started that quest (stage 5 of MS51) instead of starting this quest, but initially rejecting it (stage 5 of MS23). I have revised the article to reflect the correct start of the quest, as this will always work (the bug may not). -- Actreal 05:25, 31 May 2006 (EDT)

Thanks, Atreal, you hit the nail on the head! The character with Fame 3 had started the Canvas the Castle quest. The bug seems reproducible -- as long as you're willing to track down Ralsa yourself after you've started Canvas the Castle, i.e. she won't run up to you in the street until your Fame reaches 5. But if you start find Ralsa and start talking to her, she immediately goes into the the "You've come back! Have you reconsidered?" dialog that normally means she had approached you before but you had claimed to be too busy. --Nephele 12:31, 31 May 2006 (EDT)

Vampire Dust[edit]

I'm not sure if this should be added or not, but after doing the Information at a Price Mages Guild quest, I collected boatloads of vampire dust (I have 10 now). Roland does not appear to be buying them from me. I suspect it's because they're quest-related kills and not random kills? Not sure. -- montek 11:11, 20 Jul 2006 (EDT)

I think you're right about why he won't buy it, and yes, those details should probably be spelled out. It all goes back to the fact that there are two types of vampire dust in the game, but I don't know exactly where they come from. OK, just tracked down detailed info on this, at Oblivion Talk:Alchemy Effects#The Answer. I've created a new page at Oblivion:Vampire Dust to summarize the info, and I'll create links to it wherever seems appropriate. In the process, I deleted the info about "bought vampire dust": can anyone confirm whether it's even possible to buy vampire dust, whether it is ID'd as VampireDust or VampireDustMG13, and whether Roland will buy it? --Nephele 14:21, 20 July 2006 (EDT)

Seridur[edit]

Actually, there does seem to be a minor glitch with how Seridur is set up. Although he's a vampire, he is not part of the VampireFaction, which means none of the other inhabitants of Memorial Cave have any reason to like him, and probably will attack him on sight. --Nephele 13:39, 7 February 2007 (EST)
Yep. I ran into this bug, too. I peek around the corner into where Seridur is, fire an arrow to pull another vampire (trying to fight them one at a time), and duck back around to wake for the vampire I struck to come after me. Instead, I hear a bunch of shouting from where Seridur is, and after awhile the quest notifier pops up and tells me that I've killed Seridur. I swear I didn't even shoot anywhere near the guy:-) Somehow the act of shooting the other vampire disturbed a Nether Lich that was also in that room and it killed Seridur. This page mentions the book Immortal Blood being on the top shelf in the basement. I've checked all the books there and none have this name. I have seen other members reading however - could they have taken this skill book away?
Sometimes the other people in the HQ will read that particular book. The lizard is very prone to taking it off the shelf, and is known to take it home with him when he leaves the building. However, he will put it back in the right place eventually.

Random Keys[edit]

In the last room of the cave before you reach Seridur, there's a fenced-off area full of dead victims; the gate is locked, and on the little table next to it there's a key (with the unhelpful label "A Key"). You'd assume the key unlocks the gate, but no. Has anyone ever found what this key opens, or is it just a red herring? Wordmama 15:28, 17 February 2008 (EST)

Roland[edit]

He sleeps (midnight to 8am) and eats (8am-10am) in his house and spend the rest of the day either wandering around Seridur's basement or reading books there. –RpehTCE 03:21, 31 May 2008 (EDT)

Activating this Quest[edit]

Can't further quest[edit]

Well, I'm up to the point where you're supposed to kill Roland and I found him in the house that the letter talks about and I decided to reverse pickpocket a hood onto him with a shock damage enchantment. After putting the hood in his pocket, I waited for 24 hours and found him dead in his bed with the hood on, but my quest log didn't update telling me that I killed him and it still says that I need to kill him. So now I'm stuck forever on this part of the quest and I can't find a way to go further. Is there any way to fix this on the xbox360?

Try talking to Seridur even though the quest didn't update, if this doesn't work, try reverting to the save before you waited and kill Roland outright. -OWM

I did something similar. I just attacked him immediately and that broke the quest. It seems that you have to talk to Roland first. If you kill him before talking to him, the quest is broken. I think this should be added as a bug. Vlad the Imperial 08:54, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Gold reward.[edit]

Bugs fixing[edit]

It is possible that when you talk to Ralsa for the first time she will ask you to reconsider, even though she has never actually invited you to Seridur's house in the first place.

This happens, because the game checks for wrong quest - MS51 (the Chorrol painting theft) instead of MS23. You can fix this through the CS.

Also, the woman has not approached me in the temple district. I was approached at the Waterfront main gate, right before the two Mythic dawn agents appeared. They are scripted to hunt you down and attack everything on sight, even if you are wearing chameleon clothing. Since they are scripted, they will enter combat mode whether they can see you or not, which will eat away the entire pc memory as well as virtual memory, the harddisks spin like mad, while they draw their weapons, sheathe them away, because they can't see you, then draw them again, because their looping scripts constantly force them to attack you, but they don't know where you are. The computer becomes completely unusable due to the load and the game unstable. This will go on until they've found you.

They will also happily kill everybody else they encounter, same goes for all other scripted NPCs, like mythic dawn sleepers in other cities, the conjurer from the spell tomes plugin. Once two of those agents killed like 5 civilians and two guards. Stupid design, Bethesda! Oh, and in this case, they started hunting Ralsa Norvalo. She ran away, they were hunting her through the entire district. This is just stupid and annoying. WRFan 21:22, 12 October 2009 (UTC)

If you're a vampire?[edit]

Ive been approached for this quest, now if you're a vampire does it matter? will the vampire hunters attack you? i havent started this quest yet at all, just been approached and was just wondering if being a vampire can effect this quest at all?

Weakness to fire[edit]

"Since Seridur is both an Altmer and a Vampire, he is very vulnerable (150% Weakness) to Fire Damage. So fire spells and enchantments will make short work of him.". Altmer have 25% weakness to fire and Vampires get another 50%. Doesn't that make it 75% total? 80.240.18.165 16:52, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Corrected. The original figures were doubly wrong - he would have 75% weakness if he were an Altmer and standard vampire, but he's not a standard vampire and only has a total of 55% weakness. I added a note to his NPC page and fixed the note on this one. rpeh •TCE 18:44, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Sun Damage[edit]

I took Seridur outside his house at midday (with Command Humanoid) and he didn't got any damage at all. Seems to me he is not really a vampire, he is just considered a vampire for the purposes of the quest. 80.240.18.165 17:05, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Vampire Dust Reward[edit]

I have several samples of vampire dust in my inventory, but for some reason Roland doesn't acknowledge them in any way, even though he always did before. He continues to tell me to return when I have slain a vampire. I recall clearing out some ruins before this then returning to him, but not much else happened in between. The issued seems so out-of-the-blue, and it started long before I learned of any cheats, so these are not duplicates. Anyone else come across this? See this page; specifically, "there are actually two different substances, both of which appear identical and are identified as 'Vampire Dust'" and "Rare vampire dust cannot be sold for the 250 gold bounty to The Order of the Virtuous Blood". Moved from Article[edit]

Interestingly enough, even though Seridur is supposedly a Vampire, He does not have Vampire abilities, Sun Damage, or Vampire Dust on his body. In fact, the only thing alluding to his vampirism is a unique ability giving him resistances to poison and paralysis.

Moved notes[edit]

  • It is possible using the Archmage's Enchanted Chest to duplicate Vampire Dust and sell the duplicated dust to Roland for 250 gold each.
  • It is possible to use the Staff of Worms on dead vampires to make more vampire dust for the reward. Once they have come back to life then died again, more vampire dust will be on their body.
  • Ralsa Norvalo may approach you outside the Temple District if you first enter the district with a Fame of 5 or greater and then leave before she finds you.
  • Since Seridur is both an Altmer and a Vampire, he is vulnerable (55% Weakness) to Fire Damage, so fire spells and enchantments will make short

Name of Quest is Wrong: There is no "the" in the quest name.[edit]

The quest is labeled "Order of the Virtuous Blood" with no "the" in it. Shouldn't this be changed? I didn't want to edit it, in case it was only in the case of the Xbox GOTY version. --Amsuko 18:33, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
