Recommendation Quest[edit]

While checking Sulinus' AI schedule in the construction set, I noticed that he has several scripted activities during the Skingrad Recommendation which make it look like he is supposed to go to Bleak Flats Cave, kill zombies, and help recover Erthor. Has anyone ever seen Sulinus help out during this quest? --NepheleTalk 16:49, 13 April 2007 (EDT)

I have not seen him do anything like that. He just sticks around in the Mage's Guild during the quest, it seems. Strange. Maybe the quest was altered later, assuming that the players could handle it alone? --A Guy

I have found in the cs a conversation with him where the player can pay him to do the dirty work of saving Erthor and let the player take credit, but I didn't think much of it until i happened on this speach page. can't tell the exact place where i found that, but look into conversations I'd say --diegro

There's not just the conversation - there's the quest stages too (see Skingrad Recommendation). It definitely looks like there's an option to get Sulinus to do the dirty work - I just can't see how to activate it... --RpehTalk 14:29, 2 October 2007 (EDT)
After looking through the CS in more detail, my guess is that the developers disabled it for some reason.
The quest option is supposed to be triggered by asking Sulinus about the "Recommendation" topic after the quest is started. There are three dialogue options, depending on his disposition towards the player. At disposition >= 70, he should offer to do the quest for 300 gold, which advances the quest to stage 20. However the dialogue simultaneously requires disposition>=70 and disposition<0... which is obviously impossible. Therefore the dialogue will never appear, disabling the rest of the sequence. The other two dialogues (which hint that he might be willing to help, but don't actually advance the quest) similarly have an additional disposition<0 check added to the end of the list of criteria which make it impossible (or nearly impossible) to trigger the dialogues.
One possibility is that the developers set up these dialogues really badly to start with. But I'm inclined to think that at one point during development, the dialogues were functional, but then the disposition<0 check was added to all three dialogues to effectively disable them. Perhaps during initial testing they found that sending Sulinus really didn't work too well (died too often? took too long? couldn't get Erthor to come back?). --NepheleTalk 17:16, 20 October 2007 (EDT)

Not selling?[edit]

I'm having little trouble with this NPC. He should be only one selling all the weakness spells, but for some reason the game refuses to give me opnion to buy spells from him. Anyone else has similar situation? 88.115.234.92 12:51, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

He should sell spell at his "available" times - are you sure you didn't try to approach him during one of his meals? --Krusty 13:40, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
I talked to him right after he stopped eating - he was walking stairs up then. I guess I need to just take the spells with console unless some has idea why he won't sell. 88.115.234.92 17:12, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
Try once he was spent a good hour wandering. It might just be a timing problem. --SerCenKing Talk 20:17, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Business Hours[edit]

I'm starting a section for people to make note of when they could or could not do business with Sulinus. I had purchased spells from him earlier in the game, but now that I'm level 39 and getting into spellcrafting, I've found myself frustrated with him. Sulinus is the only person in the game with the two spells Weakness to Shock and Weakness to Frost. I visited Skingrad two or three times during daylight hours and found no options for either spell purchasing or conjuration training with Sulinus. Then I dropped into the guild one random evening and he was OPEN!

Sulinus did business with me at 10:14pm. — Unsigned comment by 76.113.192.53 (talk) on 19 September 2010

Sulinus' hours of business are already on the article, and have been checked in the CS and in-game. rpeh •TCE 17:54, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

>70 <0?[edit]

Would it be possible to get his disposition down to <0 and then charm him to >70 since his "natural" disposition would be low enough but his charmed disposition would be high enough? I don't know if the game check that or not but it seems possible (very, very unlikely, but possible) at least.--{{SUBST: Oblivion talk:Sulinus Vassinus/Sandbox/Signature2 }} 17:15, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

I pretty sure the game takes into account charmed disposition; which is why you get dialogue that is scripted for certain dispositions to kick in even when the NPC's "natural" disposition is low, but you've charmed him. --SerCenKing Talk 18:21, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
