Mercantile[edit]

Anyone look up this guy's mercanile skill in the Construction Set yet? I'd do it myself, but I don't think I could convince my girlfriend to stop actually playing the plugin long enough for me to do so. 72.28.170.64 23:21, 16 October 2007 (EDT)

Done :) --NepheleTalk 23:34, 16 October 2007 (EDT)
So this guy's actually less shrewd of a trader than the Deepscorn merchant, by about 4 points, meaning he's even easier for the player to haggle with? Bethesda kept up the tradition of the most recent DLC merchant being being better than anything that's come before, right up until the end. 72.28.170.64 00:02, 17 October 2007 (EDT)
Yep, looks like that's the case. And just to be obsessive about the details, I did just confirm in the CS that he will allow you to invest in his store, so you really should be able to get up to 3000 gold from him. Maybe someday I'll actually start using this mod, meet him in-game, and be able to see for myself whether it's true ;)
Also, I changed his schedule based solely upon what I saw in the CS: from what I can tell there, he should be available for barter 24 hours/day. The only exceptions I'd expect would be when he's moving from one place to another and during Light the Dragonfires. But someone might want to check that in-game to be sure. --NepheleTalk 01:52, 17 October 2007 (EDT)
I was wondering whether it would be possible to get details on when he's been found to not offer training. Because as I said in my last comment, all of his AI packages except for one that is active during Light the Dragonfires say that services are offered. --NepheleTalk 01:40, 23 November 2007 (EST)
There are definitely times when he doesn't offer things for sale but I haven't pinned down the details yet. Possibly when he's moving from one AI package to another? --RpehTCE 02:59, 23 November 2007 (EST)
That does happen, and is what I was referring to when I said "when he's moving from one place to another". I've noticed that before with other NPCs (e.g., Fathis Ules, the NPCs in Dunbarrow Cove). --NepheleTalk 03:03, 23 November 2007 (EST)
I guess I should have given some details when I requested verification, but I hadn't seen the above discussion. I do have the details now. I stalked him for a couple of days for this! He goes upstairs to sleep at midnight and gets up at 6am. He is not available during those hours. So he is available from 6am-midnight. --Mankar CamoranTCE 08:41, 23 November 2007 (EST)

I am sure of this, so I'll correct the article. --Mankar CamoranTCE 08:44, 23 November 2007 (EST)

he and Velus[edit]

Has anyone noted that any item you sell to Nilphas can be bought back, not only from him, but also from Velus Hosidius? For example, if I selll a Daedric warhammer to Nilphas, I can buy it back ( at a higher price, of course ) from himself, but also from Velus Hosidius, the publician of 'the Merchants Inn'.---lordDagon

That's a very good spot - and I've just confirmed it myself. It'll need adding to the article at some point but it ought to be accompanied by a "why this happens" from somebody who's better with the CS than I am. --RpehTCE 14:23, 24 November 2007 (EST)
Nilphas' merchant chest is set to be the chest DLCBattlehornMerchantChest, so any item that you sell him will immediately be placed in that chest. However, that chest does not have any specific owner. Presumably that means that its ownership defaults to being the same as that of the inn, namely that Velus owns the chest. And Velus would be free to sell any items in any chests that he owns. That includes any of the items that exist by default in that chest (i.e., not just the items that you sell to Nilphas).
Note that the chest used for the Battlehorn Castle upgrades (BattlehornAddonRefs) is also not initially owned by Nilphas; however, at the same time that it is enabled, ownership is set to be Nilphas. Therefore the upgrades should only be available from Nilphas and not Velus. I can't see any similar script for the DLCBattlehornMerchantChest.
Also, the relationship is not symmetric. Any items you sell to Velus get put into Velus' merchant chest (MerchantsInnVelusChest) which is owned by Velus and therefore not accessible to Nilphas. Finally, remember that by default Velus only buys/sells ingredients and potions. Therefore if your mercantile skill is less than 50, Velus will only sell you the ingredients and potions that are in Nilphas' chest. You need the journeyman level mercantile perk to see the other items appear. --NepheleTalk 22:50, 30 November 2007 (EST)

Does his stock reset?[edit]

Just wondering, as Aurelinwae's stock doesn't. The game then tends to lag whenever I want to barter with her. So, does all the items you sell to Nilphas eventually go away? 68.151.60.30 12:00, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Yes. It takes the standard three days, but eventually his stock resets. –RpehTCE 12:39, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

He Glitched Or Something!!!!![edit]

I bought battlehorn castle (the fighters stronghold) on the xbox360 hoping to have a cool new house, so I did the quest to defeat the bad guys and stuff and when I went to him to go buy uprades for the castle, it won't let me barter with him!!! The only thing I can think of that may have caused this is instead of waiting for him to wake up, I broke into his room without him noticing, and woke him up. Please help! Undeadmarine 01:35, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Some NPCs only offer mercantile services at certain times of day. Leave the shop and try waiting until ~10:00 am (you should be able to buy from him sooner, but I've found that waiting a little while after they open shop helps in my game <shrug>) and speak to him. If you still can't access his inventory then try it at different times (some NPCs may have odd schedules, and I'm not familiar enough with Nilphas to know his). If this doesn't do it, then I'm as stumped as you. Good luck. -Dlarsh(Talk,Contribs) 02:51, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Possible bug?[edit]

Hey, I just went to buy some upgrades for the Castle, he gave me the list of stuff, but I can't barter with him and there are no conversation topics related to the Castle. It is the right time of day. --call999itsashark talkmail 10:38, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

The only thing I can see that could cause that in an unmodded game is if you're also in the middle of the Light the Dragonfires quest. Robin Hoodtalk 01:24, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
Nope. It happened with the one for Deepscorn Hollow as well. I just left the area and waited 24 hours, and it seemed fine after.. strange... --call999itsashark talkmail 15:45, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Thats what I see as the image.--Catmaniac66 01:59, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

Can you try just reloading the page/image. We just switched to a new file server and you may have just happened to load during the switch. The thumbnail is present and the image/thumbnail looks fine to me at this time. -- Daveh 02:05, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Tried a couple of times, didnt work. It doesnt bother me I just thought it was a server error that needed to be noted. If its on my side I wont worry, it doesnt really bother me.--Catmaniac66 02:19, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
Thanks....Try again later tomorrow. It may be some mix up with the old and new DNS entries for images.uesp.net. I'm not too worried about it either unless it begins to happen more often to you and/or other people. -- Daveh 02:24, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
