Marana's Favorite Coin[edit]

Are there any unforeseen problems if you decide to keep the coin instead? Aside from the obvious inability to receive any training from her. A real pack-rat may prefer holding onto this tiny (and droppable) trophy. After all, Sneak isn't too difficult a skill to train.

If there's some sort of "disappearing coin" glitch, or if it has a tendency to drop through furniture/flooring, that's another story.

The only problem is that you can't complete the quest so it'll always be in your journal. Unfortunately after completing the quest the coin disappears (because it's removed from the player's inventory but not added anywhere else). If you're on the PC you can add a copy by using the console command player.additem 000613c0 1. It doesn't seem to fall through surfaces or anything like that. –RpehTCE 02:40, 11 January 2008 (EST)
A little playtesting revealed one thing of interest: after pickpocketing Marana's Coin, I laundered it through a fence and duplicated the coin (the coin is not a quest item, so it can be dropped; and it is worth 1 gold, so it can be sold and bought again). With two of Marana's Coins in my inventory, the "Training" topic no longer showed up in my conversation with her. But, as soon as I dropped the extra coin (seeing to it that there was only 1 coin in my inventory), the topic returned; the quest completed, I scooped up the duplicate coin as my own keepsake.—Dark Spark 16:31, 18 April 2008 (EDT)

Rules[edit]

What rules of pickpocketing does the master training section refer to? 99.238.44.36 21:46, 10 September 2008 (EDT)

Follow the link. It means rules on chance of success, detection and so on. –RpehTCE 03:11, 11 September 2008 (EDT)

Missing Coin[edit]

In response to the user who tried to add the bug about Marana Rian's coin going missing if you were caught, I tried it several times, and the only time the coin went "missing" was when I had successfully pick-pocketed it from her, but been caught by a guard. In this case, the coin is confiscated along with any other stolen items in your inventory, and can be recovered from the Evidence chest in the prison. Robin Hoodtalk 02:46, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

Beginning the Quest for Master Sneak Training[edit]

Some people have reported a bug that causes Marana Rian not to give sneak training. There is no such bug. But before Marana Rian will train your character, you must first speak to Mirabelle Monet at her waterfront inn in Anvil, asking her about Training, a dialog option that appears when you've surpassed the advanced sneak teachers. Mirabelle Monet will refer you to Marana Rian for further training in sneak, and this will begin the quest. Then you can go to the Imperial City and talk to Marana Rian. She will agree to train you if you can steal her special coin (not her regular gold coins). Once you steal it without being detected, which can be difficult because she's quite good at detecting pickpockets, and hand it back to her, she will train you in sneak.— Unsigned comment by 70.100.196.113 (talk)

all master training quests require you to talk to a advanced trainer first, see this page (I plead LazynessEddie The Head 12:50, 12 October 2011 (UTC))

Bravil Faction[edit]

On the page it says that Marana belongs to the Bravil faction but never travels there. Well, on my recent playthrough I've spotted her in Bravil. I attacked her in the waterfront of IC and she fled. I then kept getting "Marana Rian is unconscious" messages over the course of several minutes. I later found her in Bravil and deduced that the messages must have been from her getting attacked on her way to Bravil. Anyone else ever found her in Bravil before? I don't know if she actually goes there ever or if my attacking her caused her to go there somehow. 104.8.252.75 17:47, 20 July 2014 (GMT)

Obviously your attack somehow made her travel to Bravil, though whether that's because of the script or her faction. The script doesn't appear to be attached to her either. Lastly she isn't essential, but the UOP (unofficial patch) makes some master trainers essential, and it could also have attached the script to her, do you have it installed? Bravil[edit]

  • On the tenth of morning star she travelled to bravil. i dont know if this is due to unofficial oblivion patch or from having all dlc or if its due to finishing the thieves guild questline.I found her while trying to complete the sneak training quest. sorry for bad formatting this is my first edit.

Moved from the article. There's nothing in her AI that would make her go to Bravil. —Legoless (talk) 16:59, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

There is an unused AI package that appears to have Marana travel to Bravil. The unofficial patch mentions this for when they made her essential, but I can't really tell from what they said there if they added the package to her or not. On one hand it sounds like they did, but on the other they say that it would make no sense for her to travel to Bravil. Regardless, I'll at least mention the package on the page.
