  • Is he Really in the Allies for Bruma Quest I don't remember having to go to him when I did it before.--Most Honored Listener 00:09, 18 July 2007 (EDT)
Yes, he is involved with the quest. You actually don't have to go to any of the cities--the quest is entirely optional. --Eshe 00:14, 18 July 2007 (EDT)
I realize that but the Countess of Bruma gets upset at you if you try and not get any help and she didn't get upset when I didn't go to Ocato and there wasn't any quest marker that I can recall.--Most Honored Listener 00:28, 18 July 2007 (EDT)
Not only is it an optional quest but talking to Ocato is an optional part of it. If you go to every other ruler and enlist their support, the quest completes even if you've not talked to Ocato. If you do go to talk to him he just tells you he's using every soldier he has (I can't remember the exact phrase) and gives you nothing. --RpehTalk 05:28, 24 July 2007 (EDT)
For interest's sake, his exact words are:
This is terrible news. Under normal circumstances, I would dispatch a legion or two to Bruma immediately.
But the circumstances are not normal, are they?
I've been pleading for troops for Cyrodiil for weeks, but the generals assure me that the entire Imperial Army is already fully committed.
Besides... I'd have a full-scale political crisis on my hands if I tried to pull any troops out of the provinces.
I'm sorry, but the cities of Cyrodiil will have to fend for themselves for the time being.
=) --Saruuk 05:33, 24 July 2007 (EDT)

Ok, this is really bugging me, can anyone be more specific as to where he is?? Am i at the wrong stage in the main quest or something? I've received the allies for Bruma Quest and already recruited the aid of some cities but I can't seem to find Ocato in the imperial palace, i checked the basement, the second floor, the big centre area when u first walk in, and couldn't go past the imperial guard quarters cause it needs a key of some sort..im assuming quest related. Does anyone know where i can find him?? thanks--Piercethetruth 05:51, 25 November 2007 (EST)

If I'm reading this right, he should usually be in the main council chamber area (big round area with all the seats), sitting in the chair closest to the door. He gets up and wanders around a little at about 8pm but should always be somewhere in the area. --RpehTCE 07:25, 25 November 2007 (EST)
Hmm, am I at the wrong part of the quest or something? He's never there, and the guards say Chancellor Ocato isn't seeing any visitors right now, or something like that. --Piercethetruth 22:37, 29 November 2007 (EST)

A bit of help on Ocato's whereabouts[edit]

When I was doing the "Allies for Bruma" quest, I managed to bump into Ocato walking right past the door into the imperial palace in the middle of the day. I asked for the Legion's aid, but he told me exactly what Saruuk posted. It seems he just wanders around the palace, and it's just a shot in the dark whether or not you can catch him when he's not in a part of the palace that is inaccessible to you. At least not legally accessible. --Mole126 07:03, 09 February 2008 (EST)

All I know is that he was annoying by wandering at the upper levels of the Imperial Palace while I was on the related quest, and that was the only time I ever saw him.
what quest was it? -Eelman

Ocato on Death Row...[edit]

I finished the Main Quest a third time to find that at the end of the final cutscene, Ocato goes around slaughtering guards, Jauffre and Baurus. This is very frustrating as he is invincible and when Hieronymus Lex and him get into a fight it never stops. I would have loved to keep Baurus and Jauffre alive after the Main Quest but Ocato just keeps killing them. I have tried to load earlier saves but there is no way I can change it. --Matthewest TCE 04:44, 7 May 2008 (EDT)

Try using Calm Spells. --Debatra 22:21, 23 March 2009 (EDT)

No Health for Ocato[edit]

I used Command Humanoid lvl 25 for 25 seconds. I had quite a large bounty so the guards fought with him while I sat invisible and when I decided to look at Ocato because he wasn't dying. He had no damage done at all, despite him having fought for nearly half an hour--Drake3555 02:05, 6 August 2008 (EDT)

He's a Battlemage; he can heal himself. --Debatra 22:23, 23 March 2009 (EDT)
I noticed that sometimes Ocato doesn't take damage, and sometimes he does. I was slashing and slashing at him and nothing happened, then after a while, he started taking damage from my attacks and he also started healing himself. I don't know, maybe this is just a general combat glitch, but I never experienced it with anyone else. -- KWifler

Robe[edit]

Is his robe available anywhere else? I want one. Oblivion is lacking cool robes like Morrowind has. --Mebestien 11:59, 27 October 2008 (EDT)

They are Red Silk Robes, and aren't that rare. See the page for locations to find them. --Timenn < talk > 06:44, 28 October 2008 (EDT)

Shady Underground Business?[edit]

During the Allies for Bruma Quest, I saw a map marker for him not t in the Palace, but in the Market Sewers. He then went beneath the Bloodworks and started killing Vampires and rats, and mudcrabs. I talked to him there and he said his usual dialogue. My question is, wtf? (PS3 Version)

There's actually a small bug in his AI that causes him to try to return to his quarters upstairs during Allies for Bruma. If something happened (a bug, too many guards in the way, or who knows what) to block his access to that, he may have tried to get there via an alternate route which took him into the sewers. I'm not sure exactly what route that would be, but the game isn't always flawless at pathing. :) —Robin Hood (TalkE-mailContribs) 23:15, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

he is going The Old Way, that us a part of the Theives Guild's questline--VergilSparda 16:12, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

No Lore Version[edit]

There is nothing in the Lore section for Ocato, but why? He seems important enough to have one. His role goes beyond Oblivion. --Shizukomaru 03:36, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Yes he's important, but what else is there to add? Apart from the fact his name was mentioned a couple of times in Morrowind there's no extra information on him. rpeh •TCE 08:02, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
Actually, he is also in Daggerfall (The bald guy with the torch next to the Emperor in the opening sequence? That is Ocato according to the Daggerfall manual). There are roughly enough details on him to justify a lore page. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 21:19, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
That was Ocato? I thought it was an unnamed seneschal. Anyway, the High Chancellor should definitely have his own lore page. --Legoless 21:25, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
Yes, that really was Ocato. The only way to confirm this is with this line from the manual: "Uriel Septim greeted you formally, in utter darkness, as Ocato lit a single candle, emanating the barest illumination." It goes on to, line for line, describe the entire opening scene. This clearly indicates that the bald guy was Ocato. Besides that manual has a bit more on the High Elf: "His (Uriel Septim) current Ocato of Firsthold, long of the Elder Council, has alone earned the position of the Emperor's confidante and chief advisor." My point is there are a few extra lore details about Ocato --AKB Talk Cont Mail 01:54, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

Conversation[edit]

I used my thief character and jumped down to him where he sat on his throne. When I talked to him he greeted me with the "Excuse me" dialoge. Then I put on the Grey cowl of nocturnal and talked to him again. This time he said "The infamous Gray fox! You're the most famous thief in the world" and I got a new topic about the Elder Council.

Staff of the Battlemage[edit]

Is there anyway to get Ocato's staff for someone in the Mage's Guild who doesn't want to be expelled? — Unsigned comment by 99.98.157.241 (talk) at 08:38 on April 8, 2011

I think that the best way would be to reverse pickpocket another weapon onto him, named something like AAAAA with some sort or minor enchantment. Then wait and leave the cell. When the cell reloads, he should equip the new one. Then you can pickpocket the Staff of the Battlemage (Don't get caught). If you want to clear the stolen flag, you could fence it and buy it back. --DKong27 Talk Cont 15:11, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
