Could we get a different picture of Martin? This one is pretty dark and hard to see. 152.23.196.162 09:26, 3 April 2007 (EDT)
I would do it, but I have the 360 version. Dio 225

Martin can spy the Mythic Dawn?
When using Martin and Jauffre in my "team", by having him as one of my followers, I arrived at Bravil. Going through the gate, Martin suddenly pulled out his dagger and killed an agent of the Mythic Dawn. I do not know if he can "spy" them, but this is the only occurence that he has ever killed a random townsperson before. Also, I unfortunuately do not know who attacked first, Martin or the agent. Anyone else had times like this with Martin before? >_>
Do you by chance remember who the person he killed was?64.131.15.50 21:12, 4 October 2007 (EDT)
According to the Weynon Priory page, Mythic Dawn Agents will attack Martin on site. --Debatra 15:12, 2 July 2008 (EDT)
End of the Septims?
With the "disappearance" of Martin, does the Septim bloodline end? I wonder if in The Elders Scrolls V there will be a new dynasty in place.Aldage 20:11, 4 October 2007 (EDT)
I would imagine that. For all we know, he could have had a love child with a dark elf while he was worshipping deadra. (Wow, that was random) --M1SSYF1V3 23:23, 26 March 2008 (EDT)
- I doubt that there would be a repeat of what happens in "The Real Barenziah". Felindre 10:38, 7 December 2008 (EST)
I think that there must be some Septim somewhere, normally they had an average 3 kids, and the line has been going on for more that 433 years, Martin must have some distant cousin somewhere. Just checked the lore: a bunch of possibilities, but the only one that could be easily tracked down without destroying the lore is the duke/duchess of Narsis, as a Septim married into that gene-pool early on.
Reflect?
Does anyone know how He can reflect magicka ? I wanted to cast a shield spell on him during Defense of Bruma but he just reflected it back on me. His special birthsign doesn't seem to include reflect, so can anyone explain what happened? LordDagon 10:43, 5 December 2007 (EST)lordDagon
- Interesting. It's actually his cuirass that gives him that effect. The Emperor's Cuirass (0003abb9) gives him Fortify Health (50), Reflect Damage (50) and Reflect Spell (50). I'm not sure what to do with this information though: Emperor's Cuirass redirects to a list page on which it would be tricky to add the info but it's not important enough to add anywhere else given that the player can never actually pick one up. Any ideas anybody? --Rpeh•T•C•E• 13:32, 5 December 2007 (EST)

- I shoehorned the enchantment information into the table at Other Specialty Gear; there was enough room in the notes section and it seemed better to at least get the information added for now, even if later there are other ideas about a better way to do it. I also figured that a note in the article would be useful. --NepheleTalk 01:58, 26 December 2007 (EST)

- I just thought of one last thing; does Uriel Septim wear the same version of the Robe? I'd say no, since i had hit him several times with my flare spell (accidentialy!), but it never reflected. So i think he wears an unenchanted version.--LordDagon 12:09, 20 February 2008 (EST)

- Uriel wears an unenchanted Emperor's Robe that is listed at Oblivion:Clothing#Outfits. It is identical in appearance and name to Martin's robe, but provides no protection. --NepheleTalk 02:34, 25 February 2008 (EST)

(outdent) I don't think it is listed at the moment. I hate to disagree with my colleague but the version of the robe that he wears is enchanted. He doesn't wear the obvious robe, it's an Armor robe instead of clothing and called MQEmperorRobeArmor. It has the same appearance as the other robe but the same enchantment as his cuirass. I'm not 100% sure it's worth listing though. You can't pick it up (it's marked as unplayable) and it only exists for a short time. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 15:49, 11 March 2008 (EDT)
- Umm... just for clarification. I never said anything about the robe that Martin wears. Yes, I agree that Martin wears a robe labeled MQEmperorRobeArmor, which is enchanted armor. All that I was trying to do was answer the question about what robe does Uriel wear. And the robe that Uriel wears is MQUpperEmperorRobe, which is an unenchanted robe, as listed at the provided link. --NepheleTalk 16:16, 11 March 2008 (EDT)
Illusion spell
I think he also has an illusion spell that isn't noted in the article jet. Anyway; it's an area effect spell, i think it's silence. ( needs confirmation ).LordDagon 05:52, 13 January 2008 (EST)

Why won't he equip his longsword during the defense of bruma? It's in his inventory allright, and he wears the armor, but he still runs around using that idiotic dagger.LordDagon 06:03, 13 January 2008 (EST)
- You must have hit a glitch similar to the armor one - his dagger is supposed to be removed at the end of the Miscarcand quest. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 07:12, 13 January 2008 (EST)

The same problem occurs almost always at my PC. I destroy his dagger with Disintegrate Weapon, summon a creature, start fighting it, and when the fight ends I leave the cell and come back, and Martin now has the Longsword equipped. --Rigas Papadopoulos 15:55, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Name Change
Does anyone know when, exactly, Martin's name changes from "Brother Martin" to "Martin Septim"? I'm pretty certain it's not when you take him to Cloud Ruler, although that was my first thought, as I'm certain I've seen him as "Brother Martin" there. Maybe at the start of the ritual quests? or when you return the armor? -Dan 9410 11:34, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
- Hmm. Perhaps I could take a look at some youtube videos of the quests. Maybe I could piece together as to when the name changes. But I might have a hard time finding videos of the sort.
- --M1SSYF1V3 23:28, 26 March 2008 (EDT)
-
- The smart-aleck answer is that his name is never changed from "Brother Martin" to "Martin Septim" :P
- First, his name is changed from "Brother Martin" to "Martin," at the end of the quest Weynon Priory (quest stage 100). His name is then changed from "Martin" to "Martin Septim" during the quest Miscarcand, specifically at quest stage 30, when you pick up the Great Welkynd Stone. --NepheleTalk 00:04, 29 March 2008 (EDT)
Before worshiping Deadra....
I remember hearing somewhere in the game about Martin's past before he became a worshiper of Deadra. Supposedly, it has something to do with being a farmer. Does anyone know if my memory serves me right, and where I can find the dialogue? I checked the Imperial Library, but they don't even have the Oblivion story line! Hence the quote:
"The Story of Oblivion
This is work in progress..."
I would check this out myself. I really would. But sadly, someone had to snap my disc in half. /sadface
Why am I asking for such useless info? I'm writing a fanfic and need the details.
--M1SSYF1V3 21:52, 3 April 2008 (EDT)
- The important dialogue is on his page. As an aside, if you're writing a fanfic you should probably use the correct spelling of the word "daedra"! –Rpeh•T•C•E• 01:22, 4 April 2008 (EDT)
- Martin thought he was the son of a farmer. At least, his surrogate father was such. But from what info he gives to you, he may have studied in the Mages' Guild before experimenting further with Daedric magic (also, on the page Rpeh linked).—Dark Spark 02:44, 4 April 2008 (EDT)

- Thank you guys! Oh, and Rpeh... thanks for pointing that out. Luckily, I put "Daedra" in my computer's dictionary (Along with Tamriel, Cyrodiil, ect)! Eh. I need more coffee, or else I can't spell! --M1SSYF1V3 15:43, 4 April 2008 (EDT)
Tenth Divine?
Does Martin become a Tenth Divine(like how Tiber became the Ninth) or does he just "replace" Akatosh? --Debatra 13:09, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- The game never gives us a straight answer, so we're hoping the fifth game will tell us.--Darth NANAME 13:20, 1 July 2008 (EDT)
- I know this is all just fun speculation, but why would he become a new Divine? I'd be down with that, but he doesn't really have Tiber Septim's list of (dubious) accomplishments. I'm not sure that he replaces Akatosh, he just provides a conduit so Akatosh could have an incarnation on this plane blah blah blah it's just a game, I know. But I think Bethesda would have dropped some hints on his ascension if we were to take it as him becoming a god. Fun to speculate, though! xoxo Coryl
i think he died in order to break the amulet; and the broken amulet is what allowed Akatosh to exist on Mundus. So he didn't have any direct anything with Akatosh.
- He died breaking the amulet by covering it in his blood, which containing Akatosh's blood(Reference Oblivionbook: Trials of Saint Alessia/The amulet of kings). This allowed Akatosh's Avatar to appear via bloodsummons, and the avatar of Mehrunes Dagon to be banished. Anyway, Martin is ascended, but not to godhood.
- P.S. The dagger Martin uses to kill himself is usable by the player, called the Ceremonial Dagger. Defender of Lainlyn 04:04, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
Hmm...I believe he simply shattered the Amulet of Kings and used the combined blood of man and god - specifically Akatosh's - to turn himself into the Avatar of Akatosh and banish Mehrunes Dagon to Oblivion. Correct me if I'm wrong... MartinSeptim 00:10, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
I too though of him as a possible new divine... Though it could prove a bit interesting as one of his best friends (we) have in the mean time become Sheogorath's replacement... A Daedra and an Aedra as best friends might revolutionize the Imperial religon... We're gonna need more windows in those chapels if it turns out this way. --Ictiv 13:42, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
"The Bitter Wisdom that one has been a fool is not without value"
Once when I had Brother Martin as a companion I decided to try out my newly acquired "soul trap" spell on a low level animal and observe the order in which my soul gems were filled up. So I practiced on the flock of sheep by the pond north of Skingrad. At the time I didn't know that was a crime. I soul trapped three of them and ended up with a 12 gold bounty on my head (2 gold for casting soul trap twice and 10 for killing two of the sheep) Apparently Brother Martin will sometimes report crime and sometimes he won't because he only seems to have reported two of the crimes and not the third. To this date that is still my largest bounty. Rhapsody Moon 03:45, 17 July 2008 (EDT)
Emperor's Cuirass
Can you get the cuirass by reverse-pickpocketing a bound cuirass to Martin?--Drake3555 23:17, 26 July 2008 (EDT)
- Not sure, possibly only experimenting will tell. There are two alternative ways though, you can do them both no the ps3 and xbox 360. Western3589 23:26, 26 July 2008 (EDT)
- There is no way to obtain the armour. It is simply is not marked as "playable", and therefore, cannot be obtained by th player. Even using the Skull of Corruption duplication glitch, it does not work. --Xyntfos 04:19, 27 July 2008 (EDT)
Disgruntled Employees
Every time I fast-travel into a town and martin is following me, the town guards all swarm to attack him. They ignore him after they knock him out the first time, but seriously...wtf? Baconator96 18:58, 7 December 2008 (EST)
The same thing happened to me what happened is that during the battle for kvatch or somthing he accidently hit someone and got a bounty and since npc's only have the option to resist arrest the guards attacked him.The reason why they didnt attack him the second time is because his bounty briefly goes away until you fast travel again(Timedragon1 15:00, 19 May 2011 (UTC))
Marks that just don't make sense
At the bottom of the page, it shows "services-not written" and "rumors-not written" for the OBNPCRP, but he provides no services, and has no Rumors topic, IIRC.
Oversight, intention, or...what? --Farglenargle 19:59, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
- It's because his page is part of the big Oblivion NPC Redesign Project. All NPCs have the same categories at the bottom of the page, which basically means that it will be checked if he offers any services or not. It might seem ridiculous in Martins case, but treating them all equally was the easiest way to do it. Take a look at the tag on top of the page - or look at project page for more info. Soul Trapping Martin Septim?
Is it possible to Soul Trap Martin Septim? Mor'tar'iit 11:30, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
- If it's at a point in the Main Quest where he's not essential and you have a black soul gem, then yes, you could soul trap him. It would be a really bad idea to try it though, as the game ends if he dies. Legoless 16:24, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
- And if you add a long soultrap effect to him right before he *sacrifices* himself, you still wont get his soul. MikeTalk 17:31, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Martin's Death?
I've come across two different stories for this. One says that, simply, by borrowing the power of Akatosh, Martin was turned into stone. Two others say Martin was turned to stone because of fatal wounds recieved by the battle against Dagon. Anyone know for sure? MartinSeptim 00:12, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
- This lore page and several other related articles say that Martin's body was consumed when he summoned the power of Akatosh. I tend to believe this explanation. Vesna 10:07, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Page Name
Is this page only named Brother Martin becuase that is what he first is named? I think a better name may just be "Martin" --Arch-Mage MattTalk 18:51, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yep, that's the main reason. And we already have the redirects Oblivion:Martin and Oblivion:Martin Septim so I think that that pretty much covers the different names that he acquires throughout the game.--S'drassa •T2M 22:59, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Permanent Corpse?
Why is Martin tagged as a permanent corpse when all we're left with is the statue? Ariseth 23:57, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Well he turns into the avatar of akatosh right before he gets turned to stone, thus making his "corpse" (The avatar) permanent because it can't go anywhere. simple logic DragonWolf 20:36, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

Dragon Born
Something to ponder when we wait for skyrim is that Martin is refered to as the dragon born by some Blades after the main story is finished. This is probably a coincident, but something to ponder nonetheless.--Tdroid 22:56, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
- That is because of the dragon blood in the veins of all Septims. It is most certainly coincidence as if they were going to recreate the Septims they wouldn't of allowed the current dynasty mentioned in The Infernal City.Alpha Kenny Buddy 23:44, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

Got to apologise for the lack of focus that the statement was a bit ironic: as the Alessian, Reman and Septim Emperors have been called Dragonborn, and I think the Nerevarin is refered to as such by Azura or something. My bad.--Tdroid 00:56, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Brother Martin attacks me
When i Sneak attack conjurers in a dungeon. I couldn't find any explanation on the responsibility page or this page. I know his responsibility is 100 and all, but seriously? They're conjurers who attack me, just doesn't make sense. If it helps, I do "use" him to train my skills like light armor, heavy armor, and block sometimes (he is essential atm) so he probably hates me. Could someone help me with this? I like to bring him with me to dungeons, and this just started happening to conjurers. 207.6.248.79 21:27, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
- In this game, and the previous, you are told time and again that attacking anyone is a crime, unless it is in self-defense. Therefore, sneak-attacking is a crime, since they did not attack you first. --Brf 21:32, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
- I'm having the same problem, but it only seems to occur with conjurers. Martin doesn't seem to give a flip about me sneak attacking bandits, marauders, or necromancers, but when I do the same to a conjurer, even well out of his line of sight, he comes attacking. Now, when I go into a dungeon with conjurers, I leave him outside. Could this have something to do with Martin also being a conjurer?--149.160.118.185 02:09, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
-
- Maybe. Try bringing another follower like men-at-arms and see if they get mad if you sneak attack any sort of enemy. I think you're right he only does it with conjurers. DTM 09:03, 2 March 2011 (UTC)

- At BrfBrf Conjurers are part of the evil faction. Therefore it doesn't matter if you sneak attack them or wait for them to attack you - it does not count as assault. I used to have the game-crashing issue with unreported assaults because of killing everscamps and shadowmere. In my current save, 200 hours in, after attacking numerous conjurers for spelltomes the game is still crash free. I don't think that sneak attacking conjurers is a crime - it must be for some other reason that he attacks you. I imagine because his disposition is so low with the player118.92.81.43 05:41, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

brother martin just got attacked and knocked unconscious by two imperial guards
I fast traveled to the imperial market district after cleaning out rockmilk cave with martin "following" me. He was helping fight in the cave too. As soon as we arrived at the market, the two guards start attacking Martin, who doesn't fight back until he gets hit a few times. The two guards "kill" the essential Martin, who is knocked unconscious, and when he gets back up, the guards do nothing (they returned to their post after knocking Martin out). I am going to guess that Martin did some sort of crime in the cave, like accidentally hitting me with a spell that a bandit or marauder witnessed? Or him killing bandits/marauders in front of the men-at-arms caused him to have a bounty? Or does anyone else have a better explanation? I was quite confused. DTM 00:39, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
funny another guy asked the same question.well,Martin has a tendency of accidently hitting people causing a bounty when this happens guards attack him when he's knocked out his bounty goes away. When you fast travel though it comes back(somtimes)(Timedragon1 15:10, 19 May 2011 (UTC))
Possible KotN bug
Has anyone else noticed that when you have Knights of the Nine installed you can talk to him about The Prophet and he will with a normal Imperial voice say: He preaches in Anvil. Appeared right after the attack on the Chapel there. Sounds like the usual doom-saying nonsense. It appears from the Construction Set that you can also talk to him about The Anvil Chapel Attack. This was probably an oversight. By the way I am not using any mods. GroverPlayerB 18:38, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, actually. It's been documented on the Imperial page if I remember correctly.--Corevette789 21:03, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- Well, at the moment there is no information about it on the Imperial page and I do not think that would be the most relevant place for this sort of information. It is not mentioned on any of the Knights of the Nine pages either as far as I can see. GroverPlayerB 11:40, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- It is one of the downsides of the KotN - nearly all NPCs (even the really important ones) will suddenly comment on that Prophet and the events inside the Anvil Chapel. Additionally, after completing KotN, nearly all NPCs will randomly blame you for being a sinner, provided you have over 2 in infamy. Rather annoying, actually. --Krusty 11:44, 25 May 2011 (UTC)

Dialogue
It says that Martin will not have proper conversations with NPCs because he would have to revert to an imperial voice. However, I just heard him have a big long chat with one of the blades in his normal voice. The blade (I think it was captain steffan?) basically said that he was honored to have the Emporer at cloud ruler temple and Martin was very humble, saying something along the lines of "please, friend, how many times do I have to tell you, just call me Martin. Any ideas? Kitkat1749, 00:50, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
- The note refers to normal NPCs, which he might encounter while following the player. The residents of Cloud Ruler Temple present an exception, so the note should probably be tweaked. The conversations themselves will (hopefully) get documented when Martin gets the OBNPCRP VIP treatment. --Legoless 23:57, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Has anyone else had Martin change weapons? I've been using him as a follower for a long while (several game weeks), and while doing the "No Stone Unturned" quest, I noticed arrows zinging past my character into the attacking monsters - here Martin got himself an Elven Bow and Elven arrows from somewhere. While it's a nice source of Elven arrows (I've been picking up the ones out of dead monsters and missed shots of his), it seems strange, as the article makes no mention of a bow coming into play. When he first started following me, he used the dagger as described. It was only in the middle of No Stone Unturned that the bow and arrows appeared. — Unsigned comment by 99.25.97.75 (talk)
- npcs can pick up weapons from the ground thats what happened then, you just dont see it much on oblivion (Eddie The Head 15:35, 22 September 2011 (UTC))

- NPCs will try to find a weapon if they either don't have one, or if they're current weapon breaks from prolonged use or magic. The Bow must have been the first weapon he detected to pick up. As for the arrows, NPCs have access to arrows removed from their bodies, like the NPC, i assume, so he was probably hit with one and therefore got infinite bow ammo from it. --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 18:20, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

- Thank you so much for answering, and answering so quickly - it makes sense now that you all explained it. — Unsigned comment by 99.25.97.75 (talk) on 23 Septmber 2011

I'm rather curious about this, because it happened differently for me. I have had Martin following me around forever and, for the longest time, he was using Hand-to-Hand and Magic in fights. I do remember him having a Dagger at one stage, but it was a long time ago. Despite my leaving hundreds of weapons around, of all kinds and qualities, throughout the course of our travels together, he never once picked up anything to replace his long-lost dagger. I just purchased the Training Area in Battlehorn Castle and told Martin to wait down the corridor so that he wouldn't get involved in the fight. There was nothing that he could interact with anywhere nearby. The sparring resulted in my leveling to 16 so I went back and told Martin to follow and went upstairs to my Private Quarters. When I went to bed Martin was standing around in his grey robes as usual, when I woke up he was equipped with an Elven Bow and Elven Arrows. There certainly was not anywhere in Battlehorn Castle that he could get his hands on this equipment, nor was there anything anywhere else that he might have picked it up from for well over an hour. 220.233.71.222 17:39, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Martin in his Imperial Armor
I personally think that an image of Martin in the Battle for Bruma wearing his armor could supplement the page nicely. If there is anyone who agrees with me, I can take a picture and have it uploaded later tonight. Sn0L3prd 21:48, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not an administrator or anything but I agree that it would look good on the page. 79.97.40.245 21:53, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

- I think you should add it. RIM 21:55, 25 September 2011 (UTC)
